In space, no one can hear you Scratchbuild!

Okay, this thread is dedicated to scratchbuilding space craft for BFG. It doesn't matter if it is a kitbash, bitzbomb, or a total scratch effort. All we want is lots and lots of details about the construction, some wip, and even finished pics.

I will get the thread started by posting the painted pics of some BFG craft.

    The fleet:

I used the "dirty water' method to try and dark line them but it didn't work so well. Does anyone have a suggestion for cheap and easy armor wash?

    Haha, nice thread title, Easy.

Horizon, I love the ships. There's lots of character there. The SM jetpacks work really well.

here's my contribution: A WIP cruiser for my imperial navy fleet. The story behind this one is that I stumbled across an extra beaked prow while digging in my bitz box, and realized that I could probably build a complete cruiser with some clever scratch-building and kit-bashing. I got the idea to use the 40k tank-tread bitz from Lack0fbettername. Maybe now that the proper thread has been started, we can browbeat him into posting pics of his work.

La Reina, first of probably two obese hive ships for my newly budding Tyranid fleet. Made of Carnifex and other 40k Tyranid bitz cut, chopped, lowered and green stuffed together.

Still tweaking the paint job...want it to look dark void-ish (a la Aliens) but still experimenting with some extra color to avoid bland-ness. I've got a cruiser in my log on the AmmoBunker as well.

My only scratchbuilt piece has no pictures of itself yet. I'll get some up tomorrow.

Srubbout i like that stuff man.

Here is how i got into gothic.
    1) Guys at game shop having a campaign
    2) I burnt out on 40k
    3) I want in on BFG
    4) I have a mighty need to eat & pay rent
    5) I gather up all the bitz i own that i know i will never use
    6) I gather up all the bitz i own there is a 75% chance i will never use
    7) I put all those bitz in a box
    8) I build fleet out of that box

As orion (the eater of small things) noted i came up with the idea of using leman russ tracks for the sides of imperial ships. THis is the bread & butter of Imperial navy scratchbuilding. I also built alot of my stuff in the style of adepticus mechanicus because..... well... i just couldnt resist.

I still got a bit of green stuffing to do as well as making weapons batteries.
I was going to wait till i finished the weapons batteries to post the ships but the eater has as way of making me do what he wants.

Here are pictures of the legendary BFG bitz box, as well as construction of my first endevor light crusier. There is also a picture of it besides a Real Space Marine Strike Crusier.

2 Dauntless. Like i said i love the light crusiers. And i love the idea behind the torpedo dauntless ships.

I just imagine the captain on the bridge surrounder by all sorts of guys with technical crap, but he only has 2 red buttons on his desk.

    Left one reads
"All ahead full, set reactor to 150%, drain energy from weapons batteries, redirect all excess power to engines"

    Right red Button
"Target nearest Enemy ship, launch all torpedos.

This is what the dauntless means too me.
All ahead full and darn the torpedoes.

@lackofabettername: those ships are some of the coolest scratchbuilts I've ever seen, you should really make a tutorial or something for them!

Re: In space, no one can hear you Scratchbuild!

    A Tutorial Eh?

    1) Get a stip of balsa/bass wood as long and wide as you want your ship.
    2) Run leman russ or other tank tracks the full length on left and right sides.
    3) Cover top and bottom with plasticard
    4) Add group of plasticard tubes at rear for engines.
    5) Add bitz as you see fit.

In all seriousness this is how i built all of my ships.
Total cost of fleet = 5$ or so worth of superglue.

    Stop giving me ideas...

    must...

    resist...

    fails...

    starts scavenging the bits boxes...
The main problem in the world is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off everything and let the problem solve itself?

Why couldt GW make tyranid ships that look more like those? The one they released looks like a floating space-****.
