Re: The Imperial Guard Tread-head thread

Lets get the thread back on the front page.

Greetings fellow treadheads time to show off another tank , (not quite finished yet still a little to be done but I wont get the chance for a few days to complete it).
This time a DIY Hydra stylee beast to prove once again how damn useful the immolator sprue is.
Inspired by the old WWII US quad .50 Cal. turret as sported on the half track I decided that it would be a suitable alternative for the sizeable conventional turret so here it is. Enjoy, Critical comment always welcome.

    That's very interesting, Old Guard.

I've been planning on putting together a Hydra for a While, but as I'm not really keen on the Autocannons on the FW model, my (ludicrously expensive) plan was to buy a pair of these for their gorgeous long barreled autocannon and fit them onto a Hydra Conversion kit. The Turrets, sporting the Hydra guns, would find their way into the Gaming Table I'm planning (guard turrets for a big river crossing) so they wouldn't go to waste, but I'm always open to cheaper options...

2 immolator sprues for the guns, 2 diameters of tube, a sentinel pilot, and a range of assorted bits.

The upper part of the immolator is fitted to my command Chimera (Coming to a thread near you soon

The autocannon are converted heavy bolters? Cool. I also like the rear bulkhead, which I assume will get more attention in the command chimera thread (?). I've been toying with the idea of trying to come up with alternate uses for that sprue myself, since the immolator just sits on the shelf getting old, and seems like too nice a kit to do so. Now I have some ideas.
I'm also toying with the idea of point defense sentinals, with quad heavy bolters, or even heavy stubbas. From what you've done here, I think I can see a way to do that with more style than my original plans.
But, alas, all must wait until I finish my grot guard, and all their kitbashed armor support....

Great job, as always, Old Guard. Yer an insperation ter all us line troops.

Thank you, a thought on your sentinel idea.
UK WD 310 had an article on 'Kill team Nemesis' which featured warrior and cybernetic constructs, mutant monstrosities etc... there were a load of conversions shown, one of which was a witch hunters cybernetic construct which consisted of the immolator turret on a set of sentinel legs with the melta weapon option. could be what your looking for.

    More new Stuff!

This is my Imperial Guard Light tank conversion. It's been kicking around half completed for at least a year and I finally got it labelled up a few weeks ago. I've also swapped the orginal Autocannon for a scavenged Predator one to differentiate it from the other Autocannons in my army. When using the VDR rules it counts as a Hellhound with a Long Barrelled Missile Launcher instead of an inferno cannon. Otherwise it can double as a Salamander or Hellhound.

    Rear Right quarter view.

Rear Right quarter view - this view particularly clearly displays my practice of painting over decals with gloss varnish to hold them down, once the models had a coat of purity seal you won't be able to see the gloss at all.

Side view - I feel the model has a deliberate "T34" look about it, this shot shows that off particularly well

Front view - the business end...

I've also taken a better picture of my (still not finished) IG biker conversion...

    Digital cameras... I love 'em.

I deliberately opted for a smaller wheel because I thought the standard one looked much too heavy for a guardsman to steer.

Re: The Imperial Guard Tread-head thread

Moving away from the bikes momentarily...

I really, really want to include a Demolisher in my army but I'm worried it may look a bit **** next to my Mars Alpha hull and Ryza turret'd Russ and Armeggedon Basilisk. Is it an easy task to mount the demolisher cannon on the Ryza Turret?

I'd assume it is but have never looked at the Demolisher kit so am unaware of the bits and pieces.

    Can anyone advise?

Re: The Imperial Guard Tread-head thread

It shouldn't be too difficult. You will have to saw off most of the front of the turret and disguise the join with GS. For my Demolisher, I simply used the standard turret but sawed off the Turret ring and repositioned the turret more centrally, as it projects a bit too far forward IMO.

    It looks like this.

Re: The Imperial Guard Tread-head thread

As promised an update on my 'Mosa Legion' AC.

First up are the near-finished Vanquisher Tank Ace (the company's Commissar). You'll notice the black livery of the Commissar was painted onto the tank, it's black hull filling those who look upon it with dread and fear.
The turret was enlarged at the rear with a plasticard construction and turned out great I must say. The gun is also scrathbuilt from plastic tubing and accesory-sprue bits.
Painting is roughly 80% complete, and the commander's cupula still has to be added.

The Basilisk is still far from finished, it needs work on the battledamage, tracks and minor detailing.

Lastly I added a wip-shot of my Demolisher. Some minor converting went into it, notably some added armour to the front and sidesponsons.

All other tanks are built and waiting for primer.

Re: The Imperial Guard Tread-head thread

    Evening all.

Scrubout and someone else I seem to recal, was interested in the Berlin brigade urban camo scheme I used on a thunderer so with the Cities of Death campaign/codex expected next year and since scrubout asked me so nicely, here we go.

The paint scheme was adopted by the British Army only by its forces in Berlin, it has not (to my knowledge) been used anywhere else. The concept was to lose the vehicle among the 'blocky' features of a town.

To achieve the 'look' on the thunderer I did the following:

Black undercoat followed by codex grey this was then overpainted in skull white and Tamiya Khaki (XF40 ,I think, I can't read the label).

I include a few pictures for comparison. The khaky colour tended to vary from what I have used to a more reddy brown colour.

So there you have it. I suppose I will work on a city fight force in preparation having also to hand a sentinel in the same pattern and an urban variant on my current 'temperate' IG uniform camo pattern.

Thank you so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so much Old Guard! *virtual hug... ...salutes*

This will be extremely helpful for my mechanized grenadiers...their black tanks are too bland looking, and something more city fight-ish is definately much more appropriate.

Once I am granted time by the model gods I will post pictures of my own tanks in the color scheme.

Re: The Imperial Guard Tread-head thread

That other person was me, I'm very fond of the Berliner's Brigade camouflage pattern. It's really unique and stunning; and bothersome to paint.

The Codex Grey really does look blue on your models... perhaps because of the contrast with the brown? Did you find it frustrating to paint it? You'd need all sorts of tape-lines all over the tank and do that multiple times for the proper effect. And when that's finally done there's the rest; tracks, weapons, battle damage...

I like the APC you've uploaded... I'm becoming convinced to paint my Armoured Battlegroup in these rare colours. Sure beats white and dirt!

Re: The Imperial Guard Tread-head thread

    Glad I could help.

Did'nt really find it that bad, I used where I could the lines on the tank and I think drew on the others (this is about 2/3 years old so i can't really remember) the white was at least 2 coats.

Oddly enough I started it in Holland while at work there for a week, and took the bits and modeling equipment with me. Isn't that weird? ( as they allegedly say)

you mean a jagdpanther? ive seen someone do one somewhere... it looked damn good....
i never like that bridgelayer.. they never gave any thought as to HOW it actually deployed the bridge... im actually working on a far cooler version (it may even work if i can be cunning enough...)
