The "reactive armour" on the chaos tanks is sheet styrene. You can get "sidewalk" or "tile" in varying square measurements, from 1/16" to 1/2"
I love the stuff. The tile grid only shows on one side. Score the slot between the tiles with a sharp Xacto blade and it snaps apart nice & clean. It's awesome if you are trying to scratch-build something and don't want the tile grid to show because you can simply use the grid as a measurement, snap off what you need, and turn it flat side out.
Logarithm Udgaur - I tried to not make it look Manticore'ish. I always felt the missiles on a Manticore were a lot bigger. That is why I have put 8 on it and not just the 4. I guess it could be used as one, but I was thinking more of a Hydra role, just with ground to air missiles rather than autocannon.
There was a post a few days ago about a Tanith army. I got mine out this morning to photograph for that. Although it is quite a few years old, I remembered that I made quite a few scratch built vehicles for it. Mainly half-tracks, but there are ne or two other conversions, like the Salamander. I can remember Gaunt riding in one of those. Also the Wartracks, they had something similar when escorting a convoy at one point.
A more extensive amount of armour here than at Kursk! A collective spectacle of mad IG tankbuilding. It's good to see that a lot of people scratchbuild and doesn't hesitate for chopping up and recombining tank hulls. I expect that more light, armoured cars will pop up here once FW releases their Elysian buggy.
But now, just to drive a manic point of mine home at such an obvious spot...
Well, you deadhard 40k tankers, what about a Fantasy challenge for the Skaven release?
Rules: First one to build an insane vehicle out of Doomwheels - a monster truck, for instance - wins. Reserve doomwheel is obligatory.![]()
Here are some small trucks made from the old fashioned Ork ones many years ago. I think the front cab roof was from the Armagedon Setinel if memory serves. Sorry, I have not posted them before as they are not actually tracked. But if anyone is interested. I juist made them to tow small field guns. Apart from one which is pulling a longer trailor. This was inspired by that caravan thingy that the colonel rides around in from the film Battle of the Bulge, if anyone remembers it?
If you want to see some Chaos armoured cars that I built then here is a link. They are supposed to be those Steg4 ones from the Gaunts Ghosts that Gaur's forces were using.

nooker - I use stiff card for a lot ofmy things. I made the Tanith vehicles so that the backs were large enough o take a whole squad of IG troops. Those buildings that you have photos of, did you paint them yourself or can youbuy them already done, ready to make up? They look pretty good for a city scape.
major soma - Thanks for the basi photos. I was wondering what the small turret on the top is made from?
It was a spare turret from a korean apc kit

Hrw-Amen I assume you are referring to this:
and I bought the PDFs from World Works Games (http://www.worldworksgames.com/). I really like their stuff. That one came from one of their PC (Platform Command) sets which I have all of. I also have their Mars Station set which is very cool. Since you print it off onto cardstock, it is prepainted.
Ooops, sorry, this is the tread head thread. Both the PC Battleground & PC Red Sector have some great treads that work great for GW games.

The Aus variant of the Black Widow is simply called a "redback". It's like a third cousin-twice removed.
While venomous, it hasn't killed anyone in years - the antivenine is at every hospital as it was one of the first produced by CSL. Most bites will make you quite sick, but you'll get over it. Only the very young, old and those with compromised immune systems die from its bite.
Interesting thing is that the redback and black widow are still close enough as a species that they can interbreed. The offspring LACK the usual markings - and ARE deadly. For some reason, the weaker redback makes the BW venom more deadly in the hybrid.
Nice work on the tanks, though.

I am the guy who thought the LoTR movies were crap and liked Judge Dredd.
@de Selby: Great work on the tanks & APCs! The mud is quite convincing, and I really like the boots on the back deck. I can't say that I'm too fond of the blue lascannons, but... to each his own. Very nice, overall.
I like the boots on the back of the tank. It's an interesting touch.
TASTE MY LIGHTING
Does that mean we have a barefoot tanker? The mud is really good looks nice and sticky.

Cheers! I deliberately went for unrealistic colours on the futuristic energy weapons in the army, to make it look a bit more sci-fi. I know this is a bit marmite-y.
Thanks, I nicked the idea from someone else (can't remember who) who used an actual tank detailing kit including spare boots.
I liberated them from this vet sergeant, Doc Butcha style:

Thanks for all the positive feedback. The weathering, such as it is, is just some khaki sponged on to represent older dirt and then a load of my own mud mixture, which is budget snow mix (baking soda, white glue and water) plus brown acrylic paint from a squeezy tube. Pathetically simple, like me.
