Find a model shop that sells plastic card with a brick or square effect on it if you want to get modern looking armour. I had this on a few of my old chimeras and a russ.
Nitpick: add-on armour blocks are usually used to beef up the protection on older vehicles to match the newer ones in service, so calling it 'modern' isn't quite accurate. I know what you were getting at though.

Samirus thats a nice start to an armored unit.
Sons of Fenris they are, hardened in the forge of their harsh world, eager for battle and honour. The grey warriors, ashen like the wolf, whose greatest joy is to hear the clamour of steel amidst the din of war. None can step before them, they are the first, proud in their strength and jealous of their renown. Through the storms of the warp they come, upon the very tides of terror, but of such dangers they are uncaring. They are the Space Wolves, the Undefeated, the bane of the Emperors foes.

    My Ragnarok.

Testing out a paint scheme there, and before weathering it. That is about where other things took over.

Toreador, I like your soviet style tank! Very nice!
    The sponson weapons totaly rock!
I guess the painting on the side shall look a bit rough, 'cause it's painted by the crew?

Yep, suppose to be a white wash. The Tamiya paint shows a lot of brush marks, and really shows odd on the tank. With a wash it takes it down a bit, but still shows. The spray doesn't even match the bottled, so I can't use both. In fact if I remember right I brushed the bottled over the sprayed. The sprayed turned out a lot more semi-gloss, which was odd. Seems most of the Tamiya paints are that way. I haven't had one match what was in the bottle yet.

Load them in an airbrush. You can pick ones up for base coating for about $30. Make sure you get read the label, somtimes they are gloss and somtimes they arn't. It its too glossy, put a coat of dull coat ontop and it'll tone it down.

I have found Tamiya paints to have a very nice flat finish actually. You have to be carefull, like Still Learning says- Tamiya paints with the X prefix are Gloss and those with the XF prefix are Flat. They don't brush very nicely at all; I'm pretty sure that they are designed to work best when sprayed.

Yes, it's my Supreme HQ, I had an extra Leman Russ laying around that i had aquired in a trade so I put it to good use. I have it modeled so that it is towed into place by the Command Leman Russ from my Emperor's Fist Company.

This is my attempt at a 'Bungaroo pattern Chimera'. With a few added chaos bits, still very WIP:

Nice; suitably sci-fi. Bungaroo will be honoured.

@ Mr.P & Codstiker: Thanks. After following Bungaroo's excellent step-by-step it was good fun to make.

@ McBain: Well spotted, I have too much stuff in my bitz-box!

Sorry no treads, and the worst quality photos you'll ever see...

Made from a Lego Bionicle fig, Rhaakshi or something along those lines., and spare bits from an LRBT. It's actually a counts-as LRBT; with sponsons as arms giving it a battle cannon (lego wheel innards) and heavy bolter, smoke launchers on the knees, and heavy bolters on the waist (I figure they're for... attacking troops that are underneath it trying to disable it or something? It's a walker, so they'd probably be flying round it in speeders with a piece of rope in Star-Wars fashion)

It's not painted as such, just undercoat and a bit of red slapped on.

    For scale:

    Progress has been made.

This gives me 4 Imperial Superheavies. The Macharius will probably end up being the Regimental Command tank, with the FW Baneblade getting demoted to Super Heavy Detachment Command tank.

I'm planning to do both Vanquisher and Vulcan Mega Bolter options for the turret, if I can make them both look good.
