@whiteknight06604: That tank destroyer is wicked cool - with the camo it looks even better, can't wait to see more!

@SDKFZ: Very nice armored battle force there, really nice paintjobs.

@Spacker: That is a TON of super-heavies, would not want to face that in an Apoc. game...

Re: The Imperial Guard Tread-head thread

How many people build tanks but do not actually glue the guns etc in place so that they can be swapped around, as opposed to those who build a tank, 'as is' and any different gun needs require a whole new vehicle?

For myself as builder but not so much a player I like a tank to be what it is. I build one model and what it has is what it gets. Maybe it would be different if I played I guess.

I just wondered what the split was as a lot of people appear to go one way or the other from the photographs I've seen here.

I have maybe 75% with fixed weapons, and the rest are the ones I've been building more recently to have the weapons interchangeable so they are more flexible when it comes to WYSIWYG for gaming.

Re: The Imperial Guard Tread-head thread

I started off with all foot armies, so tanks are a relatively new (last couple of years out of a decade) addition to my stack as well - my Guard, my Marines, my Eldar and my Tau have tanks, and all are or will be modular in design - I haven't fixed out my list's organization, and I haven't playtested, so the flexibility is an outright necessity in all truth - it'd be a right kick in the danglies if I built a tank 100% whirlwind, played it a number of times, and then realized it didn't work with the situation I faced most of the time. When you're working on a budget, or with a changing situation, hot-swap tanks are the way to go every single time.

I like the flexibility in my armor creations. Helps with wysiwyg.
    Options are optionable.

The older tanks were not as easy to make interchangeable as the new ones are... it wasn't impossible, mind, but much more difficult compared to the newest versions. For myself, I found a hull build that I liked (usually triple-HB) and built different turrets to accomodate the ordnance weapon I wanted.

I'm a big fan of magnetizing tanks but I'm slowing running into the problem where I'm making them too modular. Combine this with my lack of organization and it sometimes becomes a pain to set up my tanks before a battle. Anyone have similar experiences?

Its just the new (demolisher/hellhound)s that ive made interchangeable. All my other Tanks are as they are seen here on the Forum.

Camoflage looks fantastic, Vex. Do you rough-coat your models?

I had the same problems with my digital camera.
I bought a few full spectrum fluorescent light bulbs and put them into two small really cheap desk lamps.
My pictures stated coming out much more in focus with better color.

You're right lazy.sarge, SDKFZ has a great theme and executes it beautifully.
I have to say, though(and the following is not directed at any individual), I am bemused by the constant enquiries to posters about how they afford their hobby costs. It's none of our business. Surely we spend what we can afford (new releases excepted!). It's a hobby, not a drug addiction!

I think you took the tone of my post incorrectly, not surprising given how hard it is to translate verbal intention into the written form. It was NOT a serious question as to where he actually gets his money from. What my intention was:

"I wish I had that much money to spend on the hobby that I love and am jealous of the fact you can"

Anyway, as we're more than slightly getting away from the intention of the thread, I'll add some content in the form of my latest Russ. You can see more on the Panzergruppen link in my sig

Nice urban camo, lazy.sarge. I like the chipping effect you've got.

p.s. maybe you should paint the lens above the main gun to match your cuppola lenses?
