Salamander or some kind artillery tractor/utility hauler/open bedded troop transport, like a chimera based centaur-type vehicle. Not sure what it would count-as though.

Use it as a forward observer? AKA 'counts as griffon', 'counts as basilisk', 'counts as other artillery piece'.

How about a mobile workshop? Or a Trojan type support vehicle - maybe an open-topped one for use on a jungle/desert/stupidly hot climate world? Maybe a wrecker for towing disabled vehicles of Chimera size and smaller (similar to the Warrior based recovery vehicle the British army uses) Or some type of Engineering support vehicle - bridgelayer/cablelayer/excavator/trencher... Etc, etc...

I'd go for the Salamander, it is the easiest to convert, infact you could probably get away without even doing anything to it at all and just mounting the right heavy/support weapon.

However an artillary tractor similar to trojan or atlas would be good for a little extra work.

Modular is the way to go! Salamander/Griffon/Hellhound/Basilisk/Medusa...

Barring that, I keep thinking that a high-tech command post would be a nice conversion, plus give you an objective to fight over. Something along the lines of an M577 variant.

I'd make an artillery spotter with a place to mount a magnetized autocannon.
Forward observers and scouts would both carry around sensor equipment, so minimal alteration is needed. Just put a scope or radar dish in the cannon's place when using it as artillery.

Not Ig, but I put a sword on my Vindicator's gunner. Looks sort of like that "DRIVE ME CLOSER, I WANT TO HIT HIM WITH MY SWORD!" picture.

Re: The Imperial Guard Tread-head thread

For my latest tank, I'm trying to make a Chimera version of the Brem 2 ARV.
    Some pics here:

Does anyone have an idea about the function of the open "box" thing on the back? I can't decide whether it's for crane controls, storage, or something else entirely, and the purpose determines what bits/minis I'll put there, so...

From what I have seen from photos and other models, that box is typically used for storage of spare fuel cans, packs, blankets, etc.

    WIP - progress made.

I'm not sure which looks better:
    Short barrel:

    Long barrel:

Of course the ubiquitous Sentinal pilot as gunner:

I suppose the question is "what it it supposed to be?"

If it's meant to be a salamander scout, I'd say the long barrel.
Power Armour is for Wimps! Real men go into battle out of the back of a Valkyrie at 500 feet.

    That is gorgeous.

I'm with Getz on the barrel, though I would love the shorter one, but something looks odd with the telescoping barrel.

Purely on aesthetics, I like the shorter barrel.

    Hi,

Where did you get the wheels from?
The USS Orinoco (NCC-72905) is a Federation Danube-class runabout in service during the 24th century. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.
