Getz id like to have that on my work bench, any conversion work going to be done on it.

Re: The Imperial Guard Tread-head thread

    *blush*

Thanks, chaps. Ah, the Mk VI Vickers Lt, eh? Mm, I'm pretty much done for suspension atm. I attach another pic of the two slightly different types of suspension I've gone with. The former (right and lower models) covers the wheels with pieces of the outer hull that would fit over those tracks anyway. The latter is a result of me running out of outer hulls. So instead I chopped up the bit of the new-style dozer blade that attaches to the bottom of the hull. I prefer the initial style, but the replacement is passable.

The angle of photograph also exposes my sloppy nature. I cut off the downward-protruding parts of the flotation tanks, but did so a) untidily and b) without covering the gap with plasticard. I may yet bother, but will probably be too lazy, given the unlikelihood of it being seen normally. The real problem I'm having at the moment is that II moved back home a few weeks ago, and haven't the least clue where some of my "bits" are. So I'm low on single and double length track links.

A rather lovely piece, Getz. I'm quite a fan of your work - albeit in a very lurker-ish way. I see yet more proof of your professionalism in the fact that you planned ahead by not simply applying the track guards without considering the rotation of the quad turret. Unlike me.

I'm damned appreciative of this thread. It's been a wonderful source of ideas to nick - such as placing the smaller road wheels in the lasgun ports, for example - and inspiration. Thanks, chaps

    Those are some great tanks!!!
I've worked on a looted hellhound for my orky armored krumpany

Re: The Imperial Guard Tread-head thread

Love that hellhound. How easy was it to build the turret. I was thinking of something similar for my ig and wondered how well the flamers fitted into the Chimera turret.

Anyway keep up the great work.

I've just constructed my Third Vanquisher for my Armoured Company...

I'm pretty pleased with this one, what do you guys reckon

    Vanquisher from the front...

    ...and from the rear

And also another picture of my Hydra

Incidentally, for various reasons, I've set myself a Deadline to get my entire Armoured Company finished by mid August. To spur myself onwards I've set up a projct log. Here's a link to it for the curious

One teeny weeny cronstuctive comment Getz, if you shave the bottoms of the cupola from the new tank sprue and trim the FW raised bits round the cupola ring , the new cupola sits flush rather than being proud like it is now.

helps tie the conversion together, makes it less "Stuck on"

    Otherwise very crisp build.

Re: The Imperial Guard Tread-head thread

Here is a question, does anybody know where i can pick up some textured plasticard that is checkered, similar to the forgeworld chimera extra armour? I like their model but it isn't quite right for what i want to build.

I agre. IMO the super combos of 40K are not so super that they give a auto-win.

most general hobby/train stores stock tile texture plasticard

I balked at those when I first saw them because they were obviouslyu just two layers of plasticard with a little bit of sculpting

Re: The Imperial Guard Tread-head thread

What I would suggest is simply getting those same two layers of plasticard and scoring them lightly to make the texture. Doesn't look like a difficult project - easier than finding square textured card, that's for sure.

Re: The Imperial Guard Tread-head thread

Although that is simpler if you're doing a single tank, I'd definitely not want to score plasticard for a few straight days in order to get enough for 3 or more vehicles.

Also, the problem with having to slice so many parallel lines is the human factor; one misaligned cut and the armour doesn't looks so snazzy and you've got to start all over.

If you can find plasticard it's usually not too much further to finding textured plasticard.
I would suggest that those players who think that paper tanks are cheating or disrespecting the hobby should see if they can track down a copy of White Dwarf #132. - kelvingreen

Re: The Imperial Guard Tread-head thread

Thought i'd post up some pics of my preatorian leman russ - a count as exterminator - now that i've finished painting. I had a square place-mat to mount it on gives it a bit of weight.
Thinking of maybe adding a banner pole with a union jack but that might be a bit ott.

    edit oops, try again

What you are after is Evergreen's N scale sidewalk sheets (I don't know if Plastruct makes them). HO would probably work too but the squares would be a little bigger.

Fattdex: yep that's the stuff you can virtually do an exact copy of the FW product (did it for my Hellhound, took all of about an hour for both sides).

Textured is definately the way forward. Scorring leads to insanity (have you seen how many!?!?!?!) pain ( Sod it AOOOWWW!!! slipped) and destruction (Ah B*LL*CKS to it ...sound of item whistling through the air followed by sound of crushed plastic)

Another option for getting that texture onto your side skirts would be green stuff or A+B putty (I'd probably go for the A+B, as it dries harder). Flatten it out to a nice even thickness of your liking, and you can probably use a long knife (or something like that) to put down the basic lines, then clean it up with a sculpting tool. Let it cure, then mount it on your plasticard backing.
