Well as much as i too enjoy the hobby i must disagree with those who say this is an affront to the modelling aspect. I think its great, i mean, they look alot better than some half-finished things you see on a table.

I mean, GW does overcharge for basic bits of plastic, if they knocked 1/3 off the cost people would simply buy more models for larger armies, i mean... i bought ratlings because they were $11 for a whole unit back in 4th Ed, cheap as chips and whilst i never used them, the option was there for me if i wanted to...

I know I haven't done anything with this for a long time. The new IG codex kinda took it out of me. The new Spearhead stuff might...might...just get me going again.

Anyway, I put this together the other day and thought you guys might get a laugh out of it.

Easy E, I don't know if you subscribe to Tommygun's Backwater Forgeworld log, but he's done some great things in plastic using templates for a papercraft Bradley IFV. Definitely worth a look.

Love the GL, by the way!

Re: Scratchbuilt Armored Company Blog (Paper)

    Greetings,

I finally got around to making the command squad for this army. They are awaiting GS. I think I will be changing the Commander out with a metal Power Sword/Plasma Pistol model instead of the Power Fist guy. I just don't think P. Fists are all that useful on IG Commanders.

If you remember the fluff from these guy's homeworld (What? You don't? Well it has been a few... years.) the planet, Saint Paulus; itself is a frozen waste land. The entire planet is water, covered in a frozen ice shelf. Exposure to the air even in thermal gear is fatal in less than 6 hours.

Its surface has scattered water drilling rigs. Each rig is a self-contained community. They are somewhat insular and clannish, and battles over drilling/export rights are not unknown. The Governor's PDF is mechanized so they can travel the ice shelf, bust open any rebellious rigs, storm them; and put everyone back in line.

This command squad represents a great squad for busting into enemy fortifications and clearing them quickly before you end up freezing your Taun-tauns off. The squad has a melta-gun to bust open bulkheads/airlocks. Then, two flamers and a heavy flamer can clear the way of any defending infantry. That should let the command stroll right in to collect the Rig commanders sword. Then everyone can go home for tea and medals.

Too bad for them, they got recruited into the guard where they may have to do some real fighting.

Edit: Oh, and the longest running PLOG on Warseer keeps on plugging!

whoa - how did we arrive at identical backgrounds?

my sisters are based in a modified (and sanctified) drilling rig for the ice wastes of their homeworld.

Re: Scratchbuilt Armored Company Blog (Paper)

Wow, it has been a long time since I have had anything to add to this blog.

Sadly, since the new IG dex came out (and I paid for) I haven't played a single game of 40K with my Armored Company since. Yikes.

Plus, I switched jobs and don't have the same amount of time to devote to paper modelling.

However, I do have an update....

Yup, this army is now award winning! Well, at least the stand in Sentinels are.

I even won a cash prize! A whopping $2! That means the army has almost paid for itself all ready!

So, I lost in the Hobby category to a beautifully and painstakingly made model railroad bridge. It was far superior to my meager entry. However, I was pleased to walk away with the second place ribbon despite some stiff competition this year from a steam boat, a SR-71 Blackbird model, and some other great entries.

Stricly not related to this plog, but to do with making unusual things out of paper, this may be of interest to petrolheads and paper modellers alike

This is an amazing idea, glad i checked this thread out. I love the idea and like all us hobbyists we spend more than we can build and paint, i am currently doing and empire army at the moment, but i think my next 40k project will be an Ork killa kan and Deff Dread army, now to find some templates!!!

BTW LOVE the army, inspirational, i love the fact that it winds people up! ACE!

    Nice Sentinel.

I have the templates, but have always been a bit intimidated by them.

    Keep up the nice work!
