German is a bit more difficult than English, I think, but a lot less difficult than chinese. At least German and English are related, so it should be easier for you to learn.

There are some thing that english speakers traditionally find quite difficult, e.g. we have three different words for 'the', which aren't interchangeable and sometimes defy logic. But with some practise it won't be too hard to learn.

When learning french, I got a slight idea of how it must be for an anglophon person to learn german. Just...quirky. But it's not that hard; as always, there are some similarities to be found in latin, french, english....it's all european/indo-german(?) languages...

And it's good that you are trying to learn many languages. Not only that it's important, it's also good for the development of your mind, your understanding of the world and all that...just go on; german's not _that_ hard, just a bit quirky as mentioned above.

It helps if you know ancient greek, have similar syntax and stuff... But I guess that this is not the case?
It's one of the most difficult european languages, but you'll find the process very rewarding Alsobe sure to let us know how the chinese lessons are going if you decide to start them... I am thinking of starting chinese too
    Cheers!

Deutsch ist gar nicht schwer. Vor zwei Jahre könnte ich gar kein Deutsch sprechen, und jetzt bin ich prefekt...err, perfekt

Seriously though, I think German is probably one of the easiest languages for a native speaker of English to learn, because it's in the same category. Then again, I only know the two languages, so I am by no means an expert.

German isn not that difficult I think, because a third of the english language is old German. I imagine that French is harder to learn.

Re: Wie um Deutsch zu sprechen

I just saw this thread and I feel I had to reply. Mi mother lenguage is Spanish, but I was in the German school in my city. I learn "seriously" german for 7/8 years. I also lived in Germany (Hamburg... actually not IN Hamburg but VERY close) one year.
As you see I also speak some english. Well, I undertstand more than I can write, but I make myself clear (do I??? ).
Right now I'm in the University and took one semester Latin.

I find german is a difficult lenguage, but if English your mother lenguage is, igerman could be easier to learn for you. For me the big problem is the "Gramatik". It is... different and there are a lot of rules you have to learn.
Well the declination (in the verbs in some gramatical-times) is a problem too (to many "ausnahmen").
But not all is bad, I find German has a very very pretty "ausschprache" (don't know the word in english). And this "Gramatik" is also a way of think.
So, ich glaube ich habe mich nicht sehr klar gemacht, aber ich wollte sagen, dass Deutsch eine schöne sprache ist.
