... no walk in the park - titanproject #2

    hi there,

with the legs almost finished i decided to share my current running (or maybe better said walking ) project also in this forum.
    .
the intention when i stated planing this project last year and than finaly starting with building in february08 was to build something realy big.
    -
and because of the fact that on the one hand my army favours using walkers and titans and on the other hand my bitzbox seemed to hold enough defilerparts and stuff to build a solid highly detailes pair of legs i decided to build another titan.
    ...
    concept:
the concept for this one is about 2,5 years old and came to my mind, while i was still busy building my old titan. (some of you maybe know and still remember) i wanted use legs from a mechanical pov relatively close to those from forgeworlds warhound, but of course much bigger and by far more detailed. and - if possible with a mechanical concept that could actualy work.
but than i decided to finish several other projects first and waited for more than 18 months with continueing on this idea, again.
further it was a pretty good time to do so, with apo about to be released and everyone elso also starting to build more or less huge warmachines.
    ...
and than came the first sneeks from the upcoming fw's reaver.
and i was happy that the model turned out to become looking not realy movable at all and so much not equal to my concept that i thought it should be relatively easy to build something as or even more impressing.
    ...
    ...
so what i did was starting with the legs which turned out to becoem more and more tricky, everyday i spent thinking about the mechanism.
finaly i found a mechanism realy working, movable and stable enough to hold the titans weight.
than i needed to choose the legs positioning and decided to realize a walking position to keep the titan as agile looking as posible.
and from this day on i spend adding detail, armor and stuff until i decided to glue the legs in the final position and continue with the hip.
    ...
well .... and this brings us directly to the current status ....
    ...
hopefully you'll enjoy this project and put some comments down there, which are - as always- highly appreciated.
    -
i'll keep on posting updates on every bigger i cahnge or progress i'll do until finishing this beast ....

That looks absolutely sweet as! Can't wait to see the end product! So those legs actually move realistically at the joints?

of course now they can't any more. because to provide more stability i needed to fix the mechanism by glueing them ...
but in this two pics from an earlier state showing different positions you can the the mechanism ....
    .

    -

    -
and here's an image of the version that finaly made it.
and because i connected the legs at the hip with ball joints, motorized this mechanism could almost cover all positions needed to provide a functioning walking mechnism ...

    Totally awxome! ('awexome' > 'awesome').
I really like how you used GW bitz. They are far more detailed than plasticard can ever be.

Wow. Thats an incredible amount of detail...and it moved...
The use of 40k building sprues for surface detail is neat, and the fact that the walking mechanism is mechanically correct is fantastic. I doubt GW or even FW go to that much effort.

Right, so how many defilers are now scraping around on their bellies without legs thanks to this awe inspiring construction? And exactly what sort of titan is this going to be? legs look warhoundish, or is it in fact your own Reaver pattern (I'm hoping it's the second one!)? You are a man after my own heart with your well thought out functional mechanisms and whatnot, but my only suggestion would be to add some pistons and stuff around the hips' ball joints- right now it looks a little too weedy. And I can't wait to see more progress!
Got any concept sketches of where the rest of it's heading?

    oh, and subscribed, of course!

I almost fear the day we´ll see the greatness of this piece with it´s body completed.

I imagine it´s a pain to glue the legs where you had made such effort on the mechanism.
Insane piece. I bow down deep so my beard touches the ground ( it´s short)
    Keep it coming

It's the first fan-made Titan I've ever seen that actually looks better than Forgeworld's version. Nuff said.

stunning amount of detail, looks like it could actually be made in real life, reminds me of the new transformers. can't wait to see it grow a torso.

I'm always amazed at you few who can take a giant box of bits and toss it together to make something that looks absolutely fantastic.

Re: ... no walk in the park - titanproject #2

    WOW !!!
thanks for that huge amount of feedback brothers ....
    -
i think i'll replace this base against a nicer one, when it's finished. but for the moment this massive piece of wood is just perfect ... not only for safely transporting it ....
    .
and yes, this will become a reaver-class titan with the same rules. the fact that i hed to find a place for the torsoweapon realy troubled me for a moment, but in the end it ended up in the head. (some guys out there realy hate me for integrating a vulcan mega bolter in a wolfshead. --- but hmm somehow i like it.
further, today i spend some time on the head.
the idea is, to leave it half open to match with the legs' armor concept.
in addition i wanted to integrate some nice places to stand and watch what's happening down there on the battlefield and / or strike directly ffrom the mouth e.g. by jumppack. the roof and mouth is high enough for a standing space-marine. (even with base under its' feet - as you can see in the pictures below.)
this will make it easy for me to integrate some crew-members or passengers and give them some hopefully good looking poses.

here are 2 more showing how it could look when everything comes together ...
    .
but don't panic .... i won't leave the lego there ... it makes it just much more easy to build at least the concept with e.g. lego ...

This is shaping up to be one of the best scratch builds I have ever seen. The detail looks far better than the original.
