wow. The conversions here are awesome, keep it going!
Thank you all!
I'm really satisfied with the overall look of the Icon Termie Champion but I'm going to have to keep the pace up now. It'd be lame to do the rest of the Termies and not try to do them as well as this one. I hope I can do it in less than two weeks. I'm still gonna stick to my old standard on the last Power Armor marines with flat metallics and sharp non-blended highlights. They'll be part of bigger units anyway.
To sum up what I've got left:
3 Marines half painted (Lascannon, Autocannon & Bolter)
4 Termies primed (Reaper Autocannon & Chainfist & 3 TLd Bolter & PW)
1 Lord primed (Wings, Power Fist & Plasma Pistol)
It's not looking too good with my style of sitting and watching my models instead of actually painting them (and constantly wondering what other cool stuff I could also do).
That Icon Bearer looks amazing! I really like him and about the highlights.. I was wrong they came out very well. I think the claws didn't turn out as good as the rest of the terminator.. but splendid job anyway. =)
Really nice army you have there! I especially like that icon bearer. Any that you'll share how you painted that "hanging piece of leather"-thingy?![]()
Yeah, I think the extreme highlights are just the right amount here.
Sure! It's basically just Bestial Brown and Snakebite Leather. I started by painting Bestial Brown on with watered down paint. The paint was thin enough so that I needed a few passes to get the color strong enough. That way the recesses that I leave black have a little gradient 'cos I don't go exactly as close to them each time. So now you have a Bestial Brown patch of leather with black in the recesses and shadows.
Now I really thinned down SnakeBite Leather and painted thin lines everywhere I thought should be highlighted, edges, top of creases and so forth. Then I painted those same areas again and again always painting them a bit wider. The paint was thin enough to just leave a little amount of color each time and I wiped the brush off as well so it wouldnt be too wet. I did this until I had covered basically all of the Bestial Brown but each time I started a new pass I would start with the lines I painted first so they would always get a little extra SnakeBite leather and end up pretty much in that color while the shadows were still fairly close to Bestial brown.
I could probably come out better if you do it first with a Black/Bestial Brown mix, the BB then BB/SL mix, then SL, and even a highlight after that.
There is actually another horrible paint job under that with Snakebite leather and some bleached bone and Chestnut ink. I don't think that comes through in my final version but I guess it might add a little randomness through the layers.
Blah ... long post about applying two brown paints!
Beautiful army, I am very impressed with the offwhite on the shoulder pad of the icon bearer. The shading is just awesome. Keep up the awesome work, plEASE!!!!
Long time, no update!
The Termies are coming along nicely but I'm painting them all at the same time so no one's ready to post. I felt a sudden urge to finish off the last three Power Armor marines and that's now a small load of my back.
Thanks man. I'm very pleased with that blending so I'm going to try to have all the termies shoulders like that.
Sooo ... more than a week passed and this is all I have to show for it. I guess I've got this marine paint scheme pretty much just the way I like it. Funny to think that I'll probably never paint it again on a regular Power Armor CSM.
I painted up a symbol on the small shoulder flag on the Lascannon marine. This is my basic symbol sketch for the renegade chapter Oblitus Cruor.
It'd be nice to know if I'm unknowingly ripping someone off with the name or symbol. Feedback on that would be cool.
I'm going to put it on the huge banner too. I'm going for something like this:
When I look at the banner now it suddenly isn't that huge anymore
Hope I can make this fit.

Titan Wolfe's little side tracks
Titan Wolfe, your comments always make my day.
I'll never discourage anyone to turn to the dark side ... but those Sons of Odin need a'paintin'!
I realized I hadn't commented on your thread after the last update but that is seriously cool stuff. Especially the faces, and the Space Wolf models have plenty of those!
The Night Lords, of course, have great fluff and a cool paint scheme. You're also pretty much free to pick anything out of the codex without being "unfluffy", except for the specialist legion troops, I guess, so they'll be fun to do with the current codex.
You will not have as many faces to paint, which is a shame, because you do them justice.
I'm going for a renegade type army here, not completely warped by chaos, but leaning more towards the bloodlust of Khorne. No Deamon types or sorcerers.
The Nurgle Lord however is part of a project that will certainly be completely, over the top, warped by chaos.
What I also like about Chaos is the chance to do random conversions and mix the paint jobs up a bit. Since you're doing Space Wolf types you pretty much have that freedom too. Actually I'd think Night Lords are actually a "cleaner" army than the loyalists you're doing now.
Anyway, I'd love to see you paint up some NLs, as long as SoO don't suffer to much for it![]()
Here's one!
Let me know if I've overlooked something on the model or made some horrible mistake! Just realized while writing this and looking at the photo that I forgot the Chestnut ink detailing I was going to do on the tusks.
Might add some wisdom and more photos tomorrow. Need sleep now!
Well! A nights sleep didn't fill me up with wisdom, but I have a plan. I'm still registered for a tournament Sunday (June 22nd) ... and I still have three Termies left ... and the Lord.
The termies all have their basecoats done. Scull and bone parts are also finished and the gold parts are more or less ready except for the last highlight on the more yellow gold parts on the legs and "collar".
I managed to take one termie from that state to completion yesterday night AND watch the game.
Hmmm ... for some reason I felt like the quarter finals didn't start until Saturday so I would be able to finish two termies tonight. I kind of have to finish two tonight anyway. Then the last one should be easy on Friday evening (tomorrow) and I can maybe start putting base coats on the Lord. That might take a while since I have to decide what colors to put where.
This plan should leave me with more or less all Saturday to finish the Lord. Saturday's game will probably be a good one so I can't miss that.
Would've been nice to have an extra day to let the Lord breathe between sessions and to gather my senses. I guess this is alway what happens around deadline time.
I'm counting on warseerers (?) to egg me on and to reprimand me if I'm not getting stuff done every day.
Keep it going my friend .......they are as usual ,to a fantastic standard......"AAARRRGGGHH!!! Chaos is a calling .....the god of Slaanesh draws me near "

Titan Wolfe's little side tracks
I try not to post too much unfinished stuff but I'm fairly pleased with my progress so I'm letting these last three termies slip through in various stages of halfpainted.
Also I realized I had left one out of each stage of red, at least on the back, so here's my red paint scheme:
1: Terracotta - Chaos Black mix
2: Terracotta
3: Blood Angel Orange
4: Yellow edges (thought it was Sunburst Yellow but might be the even brighter Bad Moon yellow)
The off-white on the two Champions' shoulders alone took a large part of tonight's session. Even though they are far from finished I think, considering the time things take, I'm well past halfway! All gold ready. All serious blending done, except for the red on two of them but that's much easier than the off-white. Faces of the Champions might be a wild card. All things considered I'm fairly confident I'll finish the lot of them tomorrow.
The finish and colour scheme you have come up with is absolutally spot on .Will be great to be on the other side of the table facing this lot .It will look immence......cool work my friend .

Titan Wolfe's little side tracks
I really am looking forward to taking some full army photos this weekend when it will (hopefully) be ready!
Thanks! And yes, I've been experimenting a bit with the power weapons in this army and I think this is by far my best one.
Might have to spice up the shaft a bit though. It's sort of flat.
Highlighting the terminator helmet is actually some of the most fun I've had paintingI might go someday and buy a full squad of loyalist Terminators, just to get to paint the helmets. They are so responsive to each highlight step and the "face" really jumps out!
Love the eyes on those termies. I did the same on my 5th company. But yours really POP.
