@SamVimes: Yeah, the black face idea came from looking at real boar photos. It's true that nature itself gives the best ideas, but in a Fantasy setting you can mix and match ideas from different species too
@azhagmorglum: Thanks! I think animals generally look more interesting with color variations, especially when they're this big. The grey collar seems to work for a menacing look. makes them look old and experienced.
@BeatTheBeat: Thanks man! I think a dark face can serve as a focal point as well, if it's framed in nicely, but in my case the bright one certainly sticks out more. If by serious highlighting you mean bright extreme highlighting, I didn't do that, but I think it's pretty smooth highlighting
Well thank you all for the input. I still had to go ahead and try out the extremes. The one in the middle (top photo) is the first one, notably least smooth face of the three.
The bright one may be over the top bright but it allows for a bit of emphasis on the shading and the ferocious look.
