Thread: Precinct Omega's Random Thread of Randomness

Re: Precinct Omega's Random Thread of Randomness

Really enjoyed painting this chap. Very spooky model, beautifully sculpted (although, like many LOTR models, the highly-detailed areas, like the crown in this case, are a bit of guessing game as to what's supposed to be what).

Here's a Crimson Fists chaplain I did as a commission for a client in Australia. The Aboriginal painting on the base was my idea.

Not for sale, this one, obviously. But if you'd like something similar, let me know. The client got this one for a bit of a bargain because I underestimated how long it would take, so I'm off to adjust my price list...

More randomness. I've been out of the saddle for a while, doing sensible projects and other stuff. But it's time to start doing the whole "painting whatever I feel like" thing again.

At first, I just couldn't get to grips with painting this chap. The slashed sleeves totally defeated me and I couldn't quite get my head around how to approach the different layers and textures. But eventually I cracked it with the assistance of the new washes set, the Empire army book and a decent bit of good, old-fashioned luck.

(I've also learned some new lessons about taking and editing photos of minis since I last posted on this thread...).

Nice Necron/Nazgul/craziness conversion there! I very much like it.

What parts were used? Was it difficult?

Piece of cake. I sculpted a face from ProCreate and added the input jack to his back in the same medium. Then I snipped off the sword. The axe is made from a chainsword with a power axe blade attached to it (I was going to do the double chainsword thing, then found the axe blade in my bitz box). The handle of the axe is made from Barbaretta's shock maul from the Inquisitor range. The laspistol is from the Necromunda pistols sprue and the censer is from the Dark Angels sprue.

He's a tech-priest (any resemblance to a Necron is entirely uncoincidental) based upon Archmagos Bastian Ghuul, who appeared in Planetkill (but with his story wound forward a few centuries - he has a very long and complicated life and I've only got to write a tiny bit of it so far...).

    The list continues...

It's amazing how hard these guys are to paint, considering they're rank and file. Their eyes are so deeply set that getting into give them any definition is a real challenge.

I've got some much more interesting stuff lined up on my painting desk at the moment, so keep your eyes peeled for more randomness over the next week.

This is a bit of a cheat, as I've got another thread dedicated to this squad, but here's a sneak peek on my General plog.

I've got another two more true items of randomness to come your way this week, so stand by...

The truescale marines continue apace, albeit more slowly than I had hoped (I've got all ambitious with advanced weathering and stuff. But here's another Ultramarine to keep you entertained:

wooa how come there are so little replies, this is awsome i really like the skill you put into painting all of these models, and i have to say that the detail on the ultramarine commanders cloak is brilliant.

those guns are nice. potentially artifacts in INQ 2? on a similar note, although we can discuss this on saturday, I had thought a bit more about the cultist masks.I reckon I can knock some up this Easter. got a plan involving an old webcam and a bionic eye too...

I am ever jealous of your smooth painting!

Re: Precinct Omega's Random Thread of Randomness

I think using other people's products in INQ2 would be frowned upon. But I am planning to build some original 40k-style props from wood and plastic over the next few months.

    See you Saturday!
