    Well hello,
I've been thinking about starting a plog for a while now, as I've been following the likes of Dax, Cadaver and well the list goes on. Their efforts have enthused me no end.

As the name suggests this will, at least to start with, be mainly following the progress of the Daemons armies, I'm starting, primarily for 40K, but hopefully in a 'two birds with one stone' style, for fantasy as well. It will no doubt turn into a free for all as, like many people I suspect, I have way too many things going on at any one time and a huge number of pipe dreams that may or may not come to pass.

I've always been absorbed by the hacking stuff up and sticking it back together side of the hobby but hopefully with a bit of a 'following wind' this might turn into a bit more of the painting side of things as well.

Right, enough talking and on to some photos

This is a group of Plaguebearers I painted several years ago. I'm not sure they are finished, and I see they are in need of a bit of touching up as there are a few chips. I also want to add to the bases as the bits that are meant to be all wet and gooey aren't nearly wet and gooey enough. Anyway this group gives an indication of my allegiances. Yes, I'm dedicated to Grand Papa Nurgle! The last one is a bit out of focus but he is my favourite, maybe I'll try for a better shot at some point.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

I've got a whole load more 'bearers to add that I have started work on. I'm thinking about conversions for champions, icons and instruments of Chaos, but I've no inspiration at the moment. Oh yes, there are bonus points, but no prizes, for spotting the conversion from the group.

I've got an old GUC that I'm thinking of using as a herald, once I've scratch built a right arm and a head. I think he needs to be holding a weapon and I've lost the right arm so scratch building is the way to go. The head needs to be a bit more Plaguebearer than GUC. Photos to follow once I've made some progress (that could be sometime).

I've also nearly completed building my Soulgrinder. Now this will be the first painting project for me on this scale and will also be a bit of an experiment for me. The base is going to be an oval one that I've got from Galeforcenine that Dax put me onto. I'm building it so that I can swap between the Soulgrinder and a Defiler. The Defiler part is very much WIP as I haven't got all the bits yet.

The photo shows the torso in place and the close up is the peg that keeps it in there.

As HQ choices I have a current model GUC and a Bloodthirster. I've built them and filled the gaps but not yet taken a scalpel to them to smooth out the joins. The GUC will get horns added, as although I like the model I think it needs horns like the classic one.

So I've got HQ and troops covered and a Heavy choice but I'm going to need some other units. And that's where these guys come in

I really love these old models, especially the flamers. I'm going to have to get another flamer to be able to field them, which could be a problem as they do seem to be rarer than the proverbial hen's teeth. Still I could maybe scratch build one or convert one of the current or more recent versions.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

I'm not going to do anything with the flamers at the moment until I decide what to do about a third one, but I do have these two guys, that I am going to work on -

The Daemon Princes are obviously still very much WIP. The Nurgle guy is going to get some attention to the vents to tie them into my Plague Marine army so I can use him in both. I've already cut down the two longest pipes. Here is a shot of the vents on one of my rhinos to show you what I have planned for him.

The other guy needs his back sorting out. He's had some work already; I started the axe ages ago, but have only just recently completed it. Its from a shaggoth with a couple of chaos stars from the CSM accessory sprue (pic below). I'm quite pleased with the banding which was necessary as I added to the length of the handle. I also had to turn the axehead around as I noticed the little rings weren't hanging downwards!

I've noticed that from this angle he looks much less like he's trying to surf on that bit of blu-tac but I needed that as the two leg bits aren't glued yet. I plan to mount him standing on something so that his body is not so hunched over. This means his right foot needs to be raised on a wedge. I've got some slate bits which might work, or the base piece from the Chaos Terminator Lord sprue.

I'm not sure whether he should have wings. I've seen various different ones used and I'm not completely convinced by them. I think Balrog wings might be good but they are huge, so would make him difficult to transport, unless they were detachable. I would also like to see one done with the new High elf dragon wings, although some re-posing (either of them or the DP) might be needed to make them look convincing. I had been thinking about doing some sort of huge jump pack a bit like the Raptors' ones but with 2 or 3 jets on each side. That would rule him out of being in my fantasy army but as DPs are lords and I have my two greater daemons that isn't a problem given the size of the rest of the army. I'll have to think about it.

    Comments and suggestions welcome.

A nice start, and includes both my favourate Chaos Gods as well! This should be an interesting one to watch what with the mixture of old classic and current models.

I'm going to point out the conversion is the most left-hand Plaguebearer in the second photo. Looks like it's been repositioned and plastic Zombie guts hanging to me.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

    @savage_&_proud_of_it - thanks
@Monsterzonk - Your fat naked guy on a horse and the rest of your models were part of what inspired me to start this so thank you.
@Slaaaaaanesh - That first shot is definitely 'Surfs Up'! and thanks as well.

The bonus points do indeed go to Mr Feral, who spotted the converted Plaguebearer. Its actually quite an involved conversion of the old musician. He's had his gong on a pole removed, his beater changed for a plaguesword, his ears cut down and some work on the horn and eye to make it look a bit more like the current line. I must not forget the tell tale zombie guts added to the belly.

Anyway while I was sorting out the photo of the rhino vent I thought you might like to see my Plague Marine rhino in a bit more detail. Its not the only one I have but the only one that's painted. I went to town on the converting, really just for the challenge more than anything. The side doors open, as does the top hatch. If people are interested I'll do a 'how to...' for the doors at some point, although that might be better going in my super heavy log (A quick plug there. Link in sig).

Some nice stuff here. I particulalry like the demon prince, and the painting and conversion work on the rhino. Looking forward to watching this army take shape.

That Rhino rocks! It's awesomely sick and disgusting. I love the pale, fleshy look. Keep it up!

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

    Thanks guys

Monsterzonk - I am rather proud of the rhino. The paint job was a bit of an experiment. First was a spray of dark angels green that I'd got ages ago specifically for my PMs' vehicles. Then I did a series of washes, for want of a better way to describe them; I got a big brush with a bit of paint then quickly dipped it in my water and on to the tank, sloshed it about a bit and then left the pool of water/paint to dry. I used various light browns and rotting flesh. It took ages as I could only do one side at a time. Finished off with a drybrush of rotting flesh, some strategic spots of ink etc.

    On to the update...
Not at lot to report. Had some inspiration for the icon and instrument of chaos (pic below). No prizes or bonus points for guessing which is which. Quite pleased with the icon as I think it looks as if its a bit heavy and he's in danger of falling over backwards. Is that the curse of the CSK (od) having some effect?

Also sorted out the bases for my Bloodthirster, so I can swap between square and round. Decided to have a go at a huge jump pack for my surfing Daemon Prince. And finally I've had inspiration for a Keeper of Secrets but I'm staying quiet on what it'll be. A clue would be that I was reading the Daemons codex and my original army is Eldar. Hopefully more soon.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

    Some progress to report.

I feel like I've done quite a bit this week, but without anything to show for it (so no pics, sorry).

I've put horns on my GUO, just a little finishing off before he'll be ready to paint.

I've put together a classic steed of Slaanesh, that was in an eBay lot I picked up a while ago. It didn't have a head so I'm modelling one. I'm going for something a bit like the current version with a long tongue. With the addition of a plastic Daemonette this will be a Herald of Slaanesh.

Talking of Heralds, I've found a classic Lord of Change that I'm part way through putting back together, (so badly hacked up) which I think I'll use in WFB as a Herald of Tzeentch. As it has wings there is no option for it as a herald in 40K.

I've also started to paint! The Soulgrinder torso is coming along. Having found that half my old paints have dried out I'm not going for a white/grey look, as I had originally intended. Instead I'm going for a mid-brown colour, for a sort of nurglesque feel. All I can say is that that thing sure has a lot of detail, but its proving enjoyable to get the brushes out after so long.

As I said in my Plaguereaper blog (Go on, have a look, you know you want to) I'll be away next weekend so hopefully some pictures in 2 weeks time.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

Right now. That was a bit longer than two weeks! My excuse is I had to go up to Scotland and visit my baby niece twice. She is definitely showing signs of having fleet when she starts crawling.

Now on to the update. Got some photos for you this time. Painting progress on my Soulgrinder is coming along. Its still PIP though. I finally got the bases from Galeforce9 which you will hopefully see in my next update along with more paintedness. Got a pack of Daemonettes and have started a test paint job. Not convinced yet, hence no pic, but I will finish it off and show you for some feed back.

    Soulgrinder

You'll see I've come up with a way to pin the front legs to enable the swap to a Defiler. This next pic shows the pins in place but not cut to length to show it up a bit more. It was a real job holding the leg exactly in place to drill through and the end result is quite a fiddle to change but it works. As you can see from the 2nd shot.

Lastly I said I'd decided to go with a big jump pack for my Daemon Prince so here is an early WIP shot for you.

Thats it for now but more soon I hope. As always comments welcome.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

    ++Update++

I've decided to sign up for the Tale of 40k Painters. I figured that as I only had my old unit of Plaguebearers painted that I would bring them into the army by updating their paint job so the whole army hangs together. Plus it also gives me a bit of a head start, but I think I might need it. So from now on I'll post WIP here including modelling bits but finished models will go in the relevant TOP threads.

Otherwise progress has been a little slow, but the TOP target of 1st September will focus my mind a bit.

Lovely stuff. Some really nice conversions ou have there.

I do love Nurgle, but have difficulty in working out the colours - which is what's put me off so far. Any chance you could spill the beans on some of the colours you used on your Plaguebearers and Rhino?

    I miss those old flamers.
I prefer them over the new ones.
I think I may just try my hand at sculpting some of those!

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

Crube - Thanks. If you look back I think I give a description of how I did the main parts of the rhino. The metal is scorched brown with a chainmail dry brush. The little chimney things are scorched brown with snakebite leather dry brush and a bit of brown ink in the recesses. The Plaguebearers were great to do. I generally started with a dark brown or green and then did a lighter dry brush. Horns were done with rotting flesh then bleached bone with a final highlight of white. Guts were done with scorched brown then scab red then blood red with a hint of bleached bone and then a red ink wash. If there is anything else you want to know just ask.

Dr.Mercury, thanks, I really love those old flamers too. Fortunately I picked up another one so I've got the minimum unit size now. Hopefully it won't be too long before I paint them.

    Crube - You could have a look at Skulliz thread which gives what looks like quite a good method of churning out some good looking nurgle bits;

    http://warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152269

Plus I realise I didn't cover my painting of the bandages. I think it started with bleached bone, then white and lastly reds and purples thinned and applied sparingly.
