Great job on that icon sir. The red is very smooth, the weathered metal is wonderful. How'd you do it?

Nice idea on the screaming flies as well, I look forward to seeing them finished!

@McMullet – Thank you, you're too kind. As I said I'm rather chuffed with how its turned out. The metal is easy as pie. It's Charadon Granite with a Dwarf Bronze drybrush. I went back and added a bit to the bronze on some of the edges. I did the metal first so as not to mess up the rest of it. To be honest I think the back is slightly better than the front! The red is Scab Red followed by Blood Red and then a Blazing Orange highlight.

@MagnoliaFan – Borrow away! I know the mock-up is a bit basic but I think it shows the potential. They are really going to take some work to get right as getting to the mock up took some work but I'm rather excited about them.

    ++Update++
Well progress this week has been a bit mixed. I've not got that far with the 'bearers or nurglings which is what I should be concentrating on. What I have done is undercoated and started the base colours of my Nurgle daemon prince. It will be a joy to paint as there is so much detail and I should be saving him as a reward for getting more of the line troops done (I still haven't got a scheme for my Daemonettes that I'm happy with). I hope to get some more pictures up at some point.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

So another week and another update.

I've been concentrating on Plaguebearers and Nurglings and I now have a boat load of them ready for their wash stages. Once I get them out of the way and any finishing touches all I'll need to do is get the nurglings on bases. I'm going with 4 per base rather than 5 for one particular reason. A couple of years ago when the GW bits service was still going I got a load of Typhus heads. This was primarily to have the heads for Death Guard terminators but as they came on a sprue with the nurgling licking the horn they were excellent value. So that I don't have any bases with more than one of these little fellows on them I only have enough other ones to have 4 in total on a base. I still haven't made the Terminators yet! Maybe I'll do Death Guard for next years TO40KP.

All this means that I should have a good head start on the painting for next month, which is just as well. My house purchase is finally going through and I'll be moving at the beginning of December. What with Christmas and New Year I won't get much painting done so I may still have to play a Joker for December.

Anyway the pics. Here are 3 shots of the 'bearers PIP, just before the metal bits were painted.

    A Champion

    Another Icon

    And just a plain 'bearer

The end of the right arm on this last one gives an idea of what I want to do on the Flamers when I get to them. Its one I'm upgrading the paint job on and this was done about 4 years ago. I wasn't going to bother painting over it as it will be covered by the washes.

This is likely to be the last update before the TO40KP entry for December as I'm going to be away for a bit and probably won't have time to post anything between now and then. So bye for now...

Looking great! I really like the flies. Awesome idea and execution! I'll surely copy those, if that's all right with you.
And I demand more of those awesome updates!

    Cheers,

You're very welcome Monsterzonk. Your wish is my command. This is another little update. Here are the Icon and Musician almost ready for the washes. I just have to do a little more to the Nurgling and the foot of the Icon.

    Enjoy!

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

Well as predicted it's been a while. I managed to posted my TO40KP painting back on Wednesday but only because I'd written it before I went away. While I was away I got some awful winter vomiting bug (rather apt for a Nurgle devotee), although it wasn't the top end that was the problem, if you get my drift.

So in the TO40KP post I promised some more WIP and PIP. Well the PIP is going well but isn't really worthy of a photo. Its more Plaguebearers and Nurglings so really only more of the type of thing you've seen already. In fact I've now found so many Nurglings that January will probably be dominated by them as well! They must breed in my bits box.

WIP then consists of a number of things.
First is a Nurgle Herald. Based on an old, sadly incomplete, GUO. He's getting a new arm, which I've fleshed out a bit. His head will be based on the Battle For Skull Pass Idol of Mork top part. This is inspired from one of the Carnival of Chaos henchmen models. It will need some work as currently it is somewhat thin as head for such a large fellow, but I feel confident.

    Inspired by this guy -

    As always comments are welcome.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

As promised a bit more of an update. This time I'd like some help.

First of all there is this guy -

Who I love dearly. My question is would he pass as a Daemon Prince if suitably equiped? I'm thinking Iron Hide, Unholy Might, Mark of Nurgle, Noxious Touch (claw) and either Daemonic Gaze or Breath of Chaos (Plasma Cannon). Alternatively I could go with Tzeentch (with a suitable paint job) and go with Soul Devourer and Bolt of Tzeentch, which might be more appropriate but then that would mean I wouldn't want to field him with my DG CSM. One to think about.

Then there is this guy -

Who I think would do well as a Herald of Slaanesh. I actually have 2 of this guy and the other one has a bit of a deformed pointing hand (been too close to those Plaguebearers) so I might swap that hand for a daemonette claw and save this 1 for another time.

    And finally...
Some proper WIP for you. This is just ridiculously early and I've done work on it since this photo was taken so in true Rolf Harris style "Can you guess what it is yet?" And this time there really is a cookie on offer.

    As always comments welcome.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

@ArtificerArmour: Good answer but no where near close.

It was really a bit early in the WIP to expect anyone to guess what it will be. If I said it was going to be a Nurgle version of daemon of a different power and that there is a pile of Battle for Macragge Spore Mines that will go into making this and another 3 for a small but legal unit then that should narrow things down a bit.

    ++Update++
Well I've now finished December's TO40KP painting; more Plaguebearers and a couple more stands of Nurglings. No pics at the moment I'm afraid, maybe soon. I have been doing some other painting; more Nurglings, my Nurgle Daemon Prince and the Classic Flamers. Nothing is finished, although the Nurglings are nearly there.

And it has finally happened; I've got the keys to my new place. The move plan finally swings into action with the result that after this next week I'll be out of action painting wise and for posting updates for about 2-3 weeks. I'll be making a special effort to get the TO40KP posting in at the beginning of January and I may manage to comment of some stuff but that will be it until about this time in January.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

    Right time for some updates.

First some of what will be coming up. This is a bit of progress on the Fury prototype. Just realised its a bit of a poor shot -

This will be a Tzeentch Daemon Prince. I'm planning on converting the feet and lower part of the legs into something like the base of a Flamer. The sash I think will become long thin tentacles. I'm really not sure about the head yet. The pointing arm will get a flaming attack based on the CSM possessed flaming arm. Any ideas are very welcome.

This is a rather dark shot of the third test paint scheme for my nettes. Its early days yet but I'm liking this so far.

    More PIP in a moment...

    Update Time

The DP is coming along, just about ready for the washes and I'm in the early stages of another couple of Plaguebearers -

EDIT - The picture of the PBs is arsing me about. If I can sort it I'll post again.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

With the Daemon Prince coming along nicely I've been planning the next few bits to do. There will be a few more bases of Nurglings, bringing the total up to 13. I may try my hand at sculpting a few more to get me to 14 as a much more Nurgly number. There are also the 2 PBs from above plus another 1 with an Icon which is causing me a few problems to finish it.

The next big bits will be the unit of Daemonettes, my GUO and my Soulgrinder which if you look back you'll see I've made a start on. I do of course have to finish my Bloodthirster. All in I've got loads to be getting on with...

...So naturally my mind started to drift on to other projects and I began to think about what I might do for next year's TO40KP. Do I go back to my CSM and get them painted? Do I go back to my original Eldar army and give them an overhaul? Or do I start something else? I've been sorely tempted by all the Ork goodness we've had over the last year or so and I think the Stompa has pushed me over the edge. That and I've managed to pick up a number of Deffkoptas nice and cheap. Whether I do them as an army in TO40KP I don't know as pumping out boyz doesn't appeal much. But then I may find a simple but effective way of painting them so it isn't a chore. Basically watch this space as a few test subject may turn up here.

A proper update on my Daemons soon I promise

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

Just posted my painting submission for February 2009:

Units painted this month: 4 Nurgling bases, a Nurgle Daemon Prince

By some maths failure I’ve claimed to paint 1 more Plaguebearer than I actually have. I’ve taken the corresponding 15pts off this months total.

Total pts for this month: 197pts
    Jokers: 1 (January 09)
    Current Army Size: 1198pts

    Build/Conversion:
The Nurglings are 'straight from the box' with a selection of sources mostly the previous range but also a few of the Typhus ‘with horn’ nurglings. The DP has had some pipe work as the originals were no where near craggy enough and he fits in with my Death Guard now as well. I think there are some WIP shots in my log.

Still got to do the basingbut at least I remembered to take an army shot.

    Pictures
    Nurglings -

    Nurgle DP -

    Army Shot -

Some more shots of the DP to come.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

I've just posted in the TO40KP and promised a PIP shot of my Daemonettes so here you go. They are mainly Astronomican Grey with a white drybrush. Unfortunately the photo is a a bit bright so they just look white. The Warlock Purple needs another coat and then its on to metals, which I'm thinking will be mithril silver with an Asurmen wash.

Some comments would be very welcome.
