i adore the old flamer models. i would love for someone to sculpt some alt daemon models with the same character as the old ones - particularly the very old blue horrors. (but maybe not any of the other daemons... euuurgh....) anyway - this army seems to be coming along amazingly, good work!

    Crube and the_xander: thanks guy

Bit more of an update this time. Here we have a finished(?) leg. Its one of the front Soul Grinder ones so has muscles, spikes on the back of the foot, different blades and the different shield. Basically it is the same as the claw I showed previously. I'm not that convinced by the chaos star on the knee which I've done as gold along with the more pointy star on the shield. I won't do anything until I've got them all done to see what they're like together. Might be ok, might not:

This next one is just the finished claws. Hopefully you can see I've added a bit of Scaly Green:

Finally these are the shields for the other 'defiler' legs. They are finished but depending on time I think I will go back and add some kind of design to the flat areas, they are rather plain ATM (suggestions would be appreciated):

As I suggested last time I will Joker this month of the Tale and submit the Soul Grinder in January. C&C welcome as ever.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

Unit painted this month: Soul Grinder with Phlegm or Tongue: 160pts
So far this Tale: Daemons 410pts
    Jokers: One played last month.

Models: The Soul Grinder is straight out of the box.

Painting: The main chassis and most of the metal was done but basecoating with Charadon Granite then using a very heavy drybrush of Dwarf Bronze. This was then highlighted with Mithril Silver and shaded with Scaly Green. Some bits were highlighted with gold instead and I didn't shade those bits. The skin was done by first base coating with Charadon Granite. The first highlight was Calthan Brown. The second was Khemri Brown and the final extreme highlight was done with Dheneb Stone. The armour plates were painted black then Adeptus Battlegrey, washed with Badab Black and then highlighted with Battlegrey again. Teeth, horns and spine were done with a series of greys; Codex, Fortress then white.

Basing: I'm still working on a base which started as an oval 10 man skirmish base from Galeforce 9 and then various bits from the 40K basing kit. When I manage to finish it I'll paint it up in the usual way (Charadon Granite, then Graveyard Earth and finished with Kommando Khaki).

Highs And Lows: No lows really other than having to take 2 months on this one and as I didn't actually have a lot of opportunity to paint that's hardly surprising. The main high was getting a result that I'm very pleased with. I think the result is much better than it would have been when I originally planned to do this guy over a year ago now.

    Pictures:

    Up Next
The Daemons will be getting a rest again as I'll be concentrating on Eldar to get them back on track. Next for Daemons is a Daemon Prince.

Looking awesome, mate! Very well done! I really love the muted colour palette. One suggestion, though: try painting the eyes bright red or green, so they really stand out from the rest and draw the attention. A bit like in the Frank Miller comics, you know? I think that could work brilliantly. Anyways, great job!

    Cheers,

Hey Monsterzonk, that sounds like a great idea. The eyes are really small so it'll be tricky but worth a go I think. I think maybe orange, to go with the bronze, but then again green would probably work too.

Excellent as ever Mr GmaD... Love the restricted colour pallette, but I would second the idea of painting the eyes a contrasting colour. Personally, I'd avoid orange as it's too close to the colours already used and go for green. Hey, if you're feeling really brave, why not try to make them glowing using OSL...

    (just a thought )

    Hey there :-),

great work as already said, I like the metal parts and the spine the most, nice detailed work. For myself I would have added some brownish-red/darkred flesh parts around the body/chest where the flesh seems a bit open, but that's just imo as said :-)
Nice work nonetheless and I second the OSL in the eyes, would also say green as it contrasts nicely with the brown/darker parts and stays in the colourrange or natural colours, or go with bright blue eyes, since Bright blue always works with brown and you also have a kind of blue shine/shading in your metal parts.

    So far from me :-),

    Keep it up,

    Noc

The Soul Grinder looks fantastic (I'm about to start my two but I'm not sure they'll finish as well as yours!). I also like the nurgle DP and GuO - great work.

I used the same model as you for my Slaanesh herald

Wow, loads of comments! Thanks a lot everyone, much appreciated.

I'm going to have a go doing the eyes green, they are really small so it will be interesting to see what impact it makes. The other job that I probably should get on to is doing the parts so I can swap this into a Defiler. I've got all the bits I need and I've sorted out how to swap the torso and turret bits. Question is should I go all the way and make it a Slaughterfiend?

Awesome soul grinder! Really a very good model, i like it!

For its eyes, as you have said, green is a very good choice. You could try to make a "glowing eyes" effect, to make this mini even better.

    Great work, really.

    Keep it up!

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

Hoarmurel thanks, I haven't got around to doing the eyes yet.

I've been doing another Daemon Prince. I'm using the RT Chaos Dreadnough which is a great model and I've been looking for an excuse to use it and I thought he would do quite well as a Daemon Prince.

Anyway early days still but probably about half way. Doesn't look like much yet I know but look back a few pages at the WIP of my other DP. The pics aren't the best:

So far he has variously been done with Dheneb Stone, Astronomican Grey, Macharius Solar Orange, Blood Red and Gretchin Green. The skullface, knee caps(?) and claw have been done with Vomit Brown, Bleached Bone and white.

    As ever C&C welcome.

    I just love this model!

I wish I had it complete. But mine lacks the arms! This really is a shame!

I'm looking forward to seeing your done. Please do this old lad justice and paint him in a great scheme!

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

    That's a shame D3V!L, it is a great model.

Well it's that time of the month again and I'm just about to post in the Tale. I've finished the Daemon Prince (RT Dread). I'm nit sure exactly what gubbins he will have but reckon on about 180pts in total, giving me 90pts this month. Anyway on with the details -

Units painted this month: ½ Daemon Prince 90pts
Current Army Size (Vol 2): 590pts
Jokers: I've used 1 for the Daemons.

Models: As I've siad the Daemon Prince is a RT Chaos Dreadnought which is pretty much straight out of the box. See more at Stuff of Legend.

Painting: I started the Daemon Prince last month with Dheneb Stone, Astronomican Grey, Macharius Solar Orange, Blood Red and Gretchin Green. The skullface, knee caps(?) and claw have been done with Vomit Brown, Bleached Bone and white. Since then I've done tube details with warlock purple and tentacle pink, washed everything mud and sepia and gone over some of the details to pick them out and done the base.

Basing: pretty much standard stuff – various sizes of slate from the 40K basing kit and then Charadon Granite, Graveyard Earth and Kommando Khaki and edged with graveyard earth.

    Still To Do: nothing

Highs And Lows: This is such a lovely model I've been looking for an excuse to paint him and I think he has come out quite well.

    Next time on TO40KP...
I'm really not sure. Might do some old skool horrors, but I'm also looking at Epidemius sitting on my desk. There are also the herald of Khorne on Jugger and the Screaming Flies, although both of those will need a little and a lot of work respectively.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

So I'm about to post for this month's Tale and thought I better update here first -

Stuff painted this month: 3 Plaguebearers and a Horror 97pts
    Current Army Size: Volume 2 - 687pts
    Jokers: 1

Models: The Plaguebearers are the few remaining guys that I'd converted a year ago. Of particular note is the icon bearer that is meant to (and I think it works quite well) be squeezing a nurgling out of his ruptured intestine (mmm, nice!). The nurgling has a very small nurgle symbol on a stick. The one with noxious touch has had his tongue thing re-posed, his horn swapped for the Typhus 'nurgling and horn' with boils to hide the join and a weapon swap. The Horror is one of a 5 model unit of 2nd generation Horrors I picked up a year or so ago.

Painting: The PB's were done in the usual way with a range of different base colours – Gretchin Green, Macharius Solar Orange, Snot Green. Horns teeth and toenails were done with Khemri. Guts were done with Warlock Purple, Tallarn Flesh, Scab Red. Weapons were vermin brown and chainmail. Eyes scab red around the whole area then Blood Red and a dot of white.

The Horror was base coated Hormagaunt Purple and drybrushed Tentacle pink, which I then touched up to give a more solid colour. The nails and teeth were done with Shadow Grey, Spacewolves Grey and white. The gold bits were repainted black then gold and a sepia wash finished them. Eyes were white with a small black pupil.

    Basing: the usual.

    Still To Do: nothing

Highs And Lows: The PB's were a nice change and I can see how I managed to sail through most of the last tale as they were easy as. The Horror turned out nice but having started the rest of the 5 I can honestly say that the 2nd generation Horrors are really poor models. If horrors ever come out in plastic or I manage to find some 1st generation models I will sell these guys.

    Pictures:

Comparison shot of the noxious touch dude and an example of the original

    Next time on TO40KP...
I think it will be Epidemius.

The effect on the PB swords is really good. The horror looks a little dusty though. Maybe a purple wash to reduce that effect?

Love the icon bearer - it does work

I also agree with mattjgilbert - the horror is a little dusty, and also lacks a little definition around his teeth/fangs? a black/brown wash in the mouth and a purple/blue wash over the pink may help perhps?

Thanks Crube and mattjgilbert, constructive suggestions always appreciated.

I thought I'd quickly show a bit of progress on Epidemius. Still early PIP, but the body is just about there -

I've also more or less finished the base and pile of nurglings. C&C welcome as ever.
