Looks nice! Did you ever finish that bloodcrusher?
The seekers look great man, especially the scales on the back.

Thanks. I haven't finished the bloodcrusher. I may return to it soon as I've been having the urge to do some khorne stuff, zerkers mostly but I've got a defiler and the bits to do it up as a slaughterfiend. So when I've finished the Thousand sons I think I'll be coming over all khorne 'BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD' oh, excuse me.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

As I've got an update I thought i'd share now and not wait for the submissions for the Tale of 40K Painters to open as that won't be until Thursday.

So here we have 5 Thousand Sons, front and back:

I'll be submitting the nurglings as well, but you've seen them so next is the army shot for this 'season' so far:

Next up are the remaining 3 Thousand Sons and possibly a couple of zerkers or the bloodcrusher I started about a year ago. I'm also getting organised for a Slaughterfiend, which I'll do soon, based on the legs and chassis of the Soulgrinder from 18 months ago. That way I'll only be painting the torso, claws and a champion of khorne to go on top. I'll hopefully have some pics of WIP soon.

Thousand Sons look great! Strong colors and everything segmented nicely with the gold trimmings. The streaked blue parts look excellent!

Thanks Solun. I'm very pleased with how these guys are turning out the streaked blue sections you mention along with the inset bits at the corners of the shoulder pads are particularly pleasing. The photos don't show up the contrast in the yellow which is a pity as that has come out well too.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

    Update
First off I've got a progress report on the remaining Thousand Sons: I've now completed the basecoat of the gold, which I'm really glad about because my gold paint is horrible stuff. I think I'll get a new pot. Since I took this pic I've done some of the yellow as well. I'll maybe have a pic later in the week of the yellow basecoat finished. If recent progress is anything to go by I may finish them next weekend.

Next I have a couple of photos to kick start the Slaughterfiend. First of all is a pic to set the scene. As I said previously I'm using the chassis from the Soulgrinder I painted some 18 months ago or so (see page 9). The Soulgrinder is possibly the model I'm most proud of so the Slaughterfiend will need to be something special as well. The second pic shows the paperclip system I'm using to be able to swap between the Soulgrinder and the Defiler torsos. You can just see the hole through the square in the centre of the torso connection circle that the pin goes into.

In the long term I'll make a chassis for th Slaughterfiend so I don't have to choose between them. Next up will be sorting the bits I need for the Khorne champion who I plan to make detachable and give him a base so he can go into a unit of zerkers.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

    Update

Just a quick one of the Thousand Sons with the yellow basecoat done. Next is the Ogryn Flesh wash on the gold and yellow.

And work on the Slaughterfiend. I've put the champion together (minus backpack for ease of painting) and gone for a magnetised attachment. These two pics show the champion attached to a base and the magnets at the back of the torso - one at the bottom with blue pen and one where the icon would go, and then to prove they are magnets the champion attached.

It feels really good to get some converting/building in. Next up for the Slaughterfiend will be the head for which I'm using the standard neck/head part and the skull/hockey mask face plate with the shield from an Eldar Guardian support weapon for the 'ears'. I plan to cut the shield in half and attach it backwards so the curved side/front is facing backwards. I'll cover the back (which is to face forwards) with plasticard and do some edging as appropriate.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

    Update

I've finished the last 3 Thousand Sons -

I think that's enough blue for the time being! If I want to go back to doing blue I've got about 30 Dire Avengers that I could paint

To try to keep the momentum going I've fished out the Bloodcrusher I started painting ages ago with the idea that I'd just finish it off for an easy 40 points or whatever it would be. There's just one problem - I'm not sure about the colour scheme. I had this problem before and settled for the rich red for the jugger (having thought about going for some kind of bone colour). In a way I set up the problem by going for a dark colour for the bloodletters. Looking back at my Bloodthirster his armour was bronze with gold edging - maybe that could work?

Great job on the Sons. The classic minis look great, especially with such an exceptional paint job.
The Slaughterfiend has me intrigued. Looking forward to seeing him come together

Thanks pal. I've done a little more on the Slaughterfiend but really working out how I'm going to add the 2 additional CCW so nothing to show for it.

In terms of the Bloodcrushers I've decided to try a lighter colour sceme for a rider to see if that would work. I'm looking at the John Blanche examples in the codex and I'm want to try something along those lines. I've undercoated a rider white in preparation. Photos as soon as there is anything worth showing.

I hope you all had a good christmas and will be having a good new year.

Earlier I said I was preparing for a lighter colour scheme for a bloodcrusher rider, well here are the first photos:

This is a Vomit Brown basecoat with Macharius Solar Orange to shade and then a neaten up with the brown. I've started to do some highlighting with bleached bone, which is looking good. What do you think? More next year

    Happy new year GMAD!
I'm curious to see how the paint job turns out. I've had the problem of ending up with parts of models too dark because I run out of space for highlights. Starting with a brighter base color (or basing with a highlight color) is one thing I'm trying out to fix that. Hope this turns out nice on the bloodletter rider.

I think he's looking good, more PIP at the weekend with any luck.

I've just posted in the Tale for this month. You've seen the Thousand Sons so here's the Bloodcrusher:

I missed the skull he's stepping on (rear left hoof), blast!

Looks great mate. I have one suggestion for the Bloodcrusher, the sword would look awesome with a glowing lava effect, orange highlighted up to yellow then white. It'd give the model a little something extra. Love the battle damage on the jugger too.

I really like the brass colouration...the brown/dulled-brass loooks very realistic and works really well (instead of the 'burn-my-eyes-out/technicolor' brass that's sometimes used).

As I'm trying to make a SoulGrinder/Defiler myself, your painting of those legs is very inspirational and helps me with ideas a lot.
    Many thanks for sharing.

Thanks to you too. As to your suggestion for the sword, I think I'll leave something like that to the Herald for the moment as I want my bloodletters and bloodcrushers to be from the same stock as it were. If I decide to something along those lines I'd go back to the bloodletters and change their swords as well so it would have to be someting that would look good on a unit of ten and that I would be able to replicate that many times.

Talking of the Herald (the orange guy from a couple of posts back) he is coming on nicely. I've been concentrating on the jugger, which is the metal one from the WoC lord. I'm doing it in a similar scheme to the previous jugger but darker red for the main colour in asimilar way to the rider from the bloodcrusher and the bloodletters. Its proving quite difficult as the model is heavy being metal. I've therefore decided to concentrate on the underside and get it based so I can grip the base and not the model. This should mean that I'm not damaging the paint job before I've even finished it. Anyway I show some pics at the weekend.

As promised here are some pics of the Herald of Khorne PIP

The first couple possibly seem like odd angles but they are meant to be showing the progress on the underside. The final shot is the rider placed on top as a mock up of what it will look like once finished. I've finished the base as well but that's boring so no pic. I'm not sure how to do the metal on the rider - I think the usual scheme could be too dark.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

    Update time

Just the one pic this time. It shows progress on the Herald - highlighting the red, the chainmail (boltgun metal + black wash + green wash), skulls (Charadon Granite, Graveyard Earth, Kommando Khaki, Bleached Bone + sepia wash), eyes (red gore, blood red, solar orange, sunburst yellow, white) and base (the usual Charadon Granite, Graveyard Earth, Kommando Khaki). I'll hopefully get the teeth and chainmail finished today and can move on to the edging tomorrow. With any luck I'll finish it next week end.

I'd just like to say that I've added an index to the first post. I hope it is useful.

I have finished the teeth, chainmail and edging of the Herald of Khorne and have started on the metal bits of the rider. I will hopefully post some more progress pics tomorrow.
