Looking good. Those seekers look quite large actually... and I think you may be right about changing the pose of the rider. Be interesting to see how they turn out.

Yes, this one is just over 10cm long (4 inches) and will be about 5cm tall. Overall I'm very happy with the new plastic models. I'm not so taken wit the Horrors as I am with the Seekers - I did actually consider getting a couple of boxes of the old horrors before these new ones came out but I decided the new ones would be ok at half the price! I will however try to paint them in a not so ridiculously pink colour scheme - what I have in mind involves quite a bit of colour transition so we'll see. I will be doing a trial run on one or two to try the scheme out first.

I just found the older horrors an absolulte nightmare to assemble.... right up there with scraplaunchers, immortals and the like...

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

I can only guess how bad they were. It's one thing having to pin stuff but when the bits needing pinning aren't thick enough to drill with confidence and we're talking about rank and file troops, it gets a bit much.

Another box of goodies came during the week. This time it was Bloodcrushers. They come with a reasonable selection of bits - enough for me to complete the Herald of Khorne. One added bonus was that in the box were 5 60mm round bases - something I was getting a bit short on.

I've been concentrating on getting a load of models put together and I'll continue to do that until most of the new plastics I've got are complete. I'll then be tackling the Horrors, including the Changeling. I'll try to do his robes in the same way I did those of the Lord of Change. Once I've got them completed I'll do the Bloodcrushers.

The Bloodcrushers will be the same as the Bloodletters I did ages ago. The juggers will be something like the Soulgrinder metals. The armour plates will need to be something different but I'm not sure what yet - I may do those of the Herald's as bone so he really stands out. Any ideas?

Cool looking army you've got there give-me-a-d. I decided last night while cleaning up my changling that I'll have to fix the staff: its just way too thin. I can't see it not breaking even just painting it, let alone on a table top! Luckily the new horrors have a few decent swap opportunities.

    Lovely daemons you got there!
I'm just starting up a daemon army myself so I will certainly follow this!

    Cheers!

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

@DarkMark - I know what you mean, the staff on mine was bent all over the place, which lead to some tense moments while bending it back into shape.

@Cassarus - I think you've picked a great time to start a daemons army. Hopefully I'll be able to give you something good soon.

I forgot to mention the test rider for the seekers earlier - I've got one leg back together again after chopping at the knee. I took quite a bit off the underside of the thigh and actually took more from the outside - the result is that, now stuck back together, if viewed from the top there is definite air between her bum and heel. I did make a cut at the ankle but I stuck the foot back on at the same angle - I thought I might want to make the foot go more in line with the shin, but it looks like it will be fine. I'll do the other leg before patching up the holes. I think I'll add a little to her bum when I neaten up - she will be rising out of the saddle slightly and as she has a dip this might be visible. Hopefully some picture soon.

Looking forward to the pictures of those seekers... be interesting to see the results..

As to the bone on the Herald... I'm not sure whether the lighter shade would detrace from the overall look of the model? Not sure....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

First off some shots of WIP of the first seeker - a general shot of the conversion so far, an overhead shot showing lateral spread, a right side mounted shot and a left side mounted shot. I'm happy with it so far. Needs to be filled in, including some reshaping of the thighs.

Next to explain my thinking behind my suggestion of bone for the Herald's jugger's armour - Most of the examples of bloodcrushers etc I've seen have had a combination of bright coloured rider and dark coloured jugger. As my bloodletters are on the dark side this made me think that I should go bright with the juggers. I, along with many other veterans of GW during the 90s I suspect, have an aversion to bright red so I don't want them bright red. So far so good but this doesn't leave me with many options. I do have concerns about my bone colour suggestion as it may look like he's riding a polar bear (a particularly angry one) which wouldn't be good. Any ideas folks?

Having given the colour scheme issue some more thought and having had a scout through my GW related pics gathered from the interweb I came up with the following couple of pictures that I think prove that a bright/light colour would work with the darker colours of my bloodletters -

Next up will hopefully be some painting progress of the Horrors and Changeling.

As promised some PIP on the Horrors. It's somewhat rough and ready at the moment but I think it shows the direction I'm going. Basecoat was Dheneb Stone, Baal Red wash all over, Leviathan Purple on the arms, legs and tentacles from the elbow/knee/mid point respectively. Finally Asurmen Blue on hands, feet and tips. I'll neaten everything up a bit with washes to the shadows then highlight with Dheneb Stone, Tentacle Pink and Spacewolves Grey as appropriate. Still to decide on tongues (possibly Electric Blue) and eyes (poss. bright red). I've done the Changeling's arms the same way, but otherwise he is still the black undercoat. As always C&C welcome.

So left to right we have first red wash, second purple wash and blue wash -

Man, I just realized that I haven't commented here in ages! Sorry for that!

Where to start? Well, as a Nurgle follower (at least most of the time) I must say your Epidemius looks great! It's an awesome mini and you've done it justice. The "on foot" conversion also looks really promising. Can't wait to see more of that!

The Masque also looks really cool. I like the soft pastel tones of her masks. Well done!

Finally, the new Horrors. They are looking great so far, but how about some variation in colour? Like some of them featuring a stronger pink, or maybe a little blue or purple as their main colour. Tzeentch is all about change, and I think that might be a good way to enhance that feeling. However, electric blue for their tongues sounds like an awesome idea! Oh, and I'm looking forward to your version of the Changeling!

    Cheers,

Well thanks for popping by Mr Zonk and thanks for the encouragement, I've been meaning to post on your great log too.

On the Horrors I think you could be right. As you say Tzeentch is all about change. Not sure how I'm going to achieve that as I've done the red and purple washes on all of them now. Maybe leaving some without the blue wash and with others using sepia or ogryn flesh around the faces.

I've been sticking Bloodcrushers together today and have decided that I will paint them in a series of sub-assemblies and complete them once painted. Its just going to be easier to paint some bits that way.

Looking really good! Great colour blending on its extremities. And the bright blue tongue works really well, too! Now I really can't wait to see it finished!

Excellent work on the pink / purple transitions - the models look ace. I'd say, some of your best work

And thank you very much. There are a few spots where the transition isn't so great but I think for a whole unit its good enough. The washes have made it easy so I think I'll be using them more in the future.

I've been working on The Changeling and have just about finished the robes. When I do I'll put up a photo. There won't be much left after that, just the arms to finish and the staff.

The one part that I'm not sure about is the flames on the Horrors. Anyone know how to do flames? I thought I'd go with conventional red/ orange/ yellow as this will give colour variation with the pink and blues. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Nice progress on the horrors and changling. How about green toxic flames on them instead of the usual yellow/ orange? Looks like you're geting some good milage out of those washes.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

VERY nice work on the Changeling! I'd also vote for evil green flames. Or, if you want to play on the changing nature of Tzeentch a little more, go for different colours of flame. Remember, the old Hordes of Chaos army book had the Tzeentch spells all named as being different colours of fire.

Painting flames is a bit tricky, but actually not too hard. You'll need to use reverse highlighting. Basically you start with white and then highlight with darker shades of yellow and orange (or in case of green flames I'd say Scorpion green and Snot green, mixing them as you go), and getting darkest near the top... I hope that helps!

    Looking forward to more!

    Cheers,
    Monsterzonk
