I've used the body and legs from the Soulgrinder for now but I have started a set for this guy as well as a base.

Oh man, that is one badass Slaughterfiend! Excellent work brother! The painting is ace too, and I especially love the metals, they turned out real well. So what's next on the block?

Thanks, I'm glad you like it.

To answer your question of what's up next, it will be Ahriman. There are a couple of reasons for this but mostly because he is a massive 250 points I'll be able to finish off this years Tale of 40K Painters quickly and start preparing for next year.
Talking of next year I've been giving it some thought and will probably end up doing something very similar to this year with a mix of Daemons and CSM. This is particularly likely if the new 40K starter box is Chaos or Dark Angels as rumoured. Although from time to time I do look at my acumulated mass of Eldar and Orks, of which 'quite a bit' and 'just about everything' respectively are grey plastic/bare metal and wonder whether I should try them again. I wouldn't do a split between forces as that didn't really work for me before. Any thoughts guys?

    Very nice Slaughterfiend man.
I look forward to seeing your Ahriman (after you've gotten over that great feeling of finishing a big project like the SF ).

Thank you, I must say your Khorne land raider is really something special. After doing the Thousand Sons recently I thought Ahriman would be a nice return to the forces of Tzeentch and a nice change from the big mad bad SF. I also haven't done much of the independant character type model for a while so I'm looking forward to going to town on him.

Update wise I've finished the new bottom half of the Slaughter Fiend so I can field both him and the Soulgrinder. The body for the SF is very much the same as the one for the Soulgrinder but as a way of telling them apart I did the piston bodies on the tops of the legs in red rather than grey. I've also finished modeling a base for the SF, based on a meteor taken from part of the Planetstrike scenery, which I think I showed quite sometime ago. I'll take some pics over the weekend including the two together and the base.

Right so as promised here are some pics.

First here is the Slaughterfiend finished and on the part painted base:

That second pic is just to prove that the claws are not glued in place.

Next is the base in more detail:

And here is the Slaughterfiend next to the Soulgrinder:

My moneys on the Slaughterfiend but it'll be close!

Next we have the start of Ahriman:

Just basic colours so far. The blue has been slightly highlighted. Most of the brown will be gold but some will be horn etc. The head and backpack are seperate for painting.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

So work on Ahriman is coming on nicely, may be able to post him completed in the Tale of 40k Painters at the start of August. Some more pics soon I promise.

I've seen the pics and video of the WD daemon releases for August. I'm surprised how many new plastic kits there are, despite the exalted chariot being a doubling up of the chariot/hellflayer kit. I quite like those new slaaneshi units as I am quite a fan of the new daemonettes and seekers but they seem a bit static, still nothing a sharp knife and plastic glue won't fix.
The screamers are good keeping very much to the design of the out going metal ones which I liked. The flamers also keep reasonably well to the existing design but somehow I don't like them - so much so I've ordered some of the outgoing finecast ones (which will be my first experience of GW resin). The final Tzeentch release - the Blue Scribes I'm not sure about, seems a little plain/not mad enough.
On to Nurgle and I am growing to like the Plague Bearers, althoughthey seem a bit long in the body. I don't really like the nurglings, not sure why exactly but it might be that they are soo piled up and very similar looking.
Anyway I will probably get all of the plastic kits sooner or later even if its just for the bits. A quick note on the relaunch of the finecast bits - Epidemius in finecast should be a great improvement because the metal version I have is very heavy and was consequently difficult to paint.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

    Right a progress pic -

Getting near to finishing now. The gold has been a bit of a pain - as my truely ancient gold is almost dead I decided to get some of the new GW paints and went for Auric Armour Gold and Gehenna's Gold. Auric is basically metallic yellow, way more yellow than I thought it would be and Gehenna's is more red than I thought. I therefore decided to go with Auric and wash it with Ogrn Flesh and highlight with my old gold. I think it will be fine with a final highlight of Mithril.

Returning to the subject of the new daemon models I wasn't sure I liked the Plaguebearers to start with but now I think they look pretty good - academic as I don't need them. The old finecast flamers were out of stock so I didn't get them - I'll just have to look on ebay for some if I want them. The plastic ones will help quite a bit with my Tzeentch daemon prince (based on the Necron C'tan) - I might actually get around to finishing him. Anyway the chariots and screamers will ensure I don't run out of stuff to do while waiting for new CSM stuff.

Just as tiny update for you -

This is a pic of the beginnings of me freehanding Ahriman's shoulderpad. The base is spacewovles grey with some shadow grey shading and the serpent is done in solar orange. I will neaten it up a little with space wolves gey before painting probably sunburst yellow in to give definition to the serpent. This is the first freehand I've done in a long time and I'm quite pleased with it. I will hopefully update with the finished pad sometime over the weekend.

As I hoped I have the finished shoulderpad for you, plus a couple of other details -

I'm aiming to finish him off by the end of next weekend, including the base. Hopefully I can post in the Tale thread if the one for September goes up before the end of the month as I won't be able to post for a couple of weeks at least at the beginning of September.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

Here we are drawing to the close of another year of the Tale of 40K Painters so I thought it would be nice to have a bit of a look back to this time last year to see what I was planning to paintthen and then reviewing the year to see hwat I actually painted and then look forward to the next Tale.

So back in August 2011 on page 12 I was looking forward to this year of the Tale and hopefully painting:

    Daemons:
Bloodcrushers including a herald of khorne on jugger converted from the metal WoC lord on jugger
    Horrors including the Changeling finished
    Seekers, lots of seekers
Herald of Nurgle finished - the Epidemius on foot I started
Herald of Slaanesh on a chariot - a long planned conversion of a high elf chariot with mounts of Slaanesh pulling it
I also have various other projects that might turn up - (Furies converted from Bloodletters, Screaming Flies of Nurgle, Daemon Princes, another Soulgrinder)

    CSM:
    Khorne 'zerkers
    Plague Marines
    Noise Marines
    a Predator
    Defilers
    Possessed
The list could go on. It would be easier to say that the only thing that is almost certainly not going to turn up is Obliterators as I don't have any.

So did th plan work? The answer is a definitive 'sort of'

For the Daemons I painted some mounts of slaanesh for seekers but didn't get around to converting the riders so they remain incomplete, a base of nurglings, a herald of Khorne on juggernaught as well as a bloodcrusher and finally I finished off my unit of horrors including the Changling.

For the CSM I painted a unit of 9 Thousand Sons including an aspiring sorcerer, a defiler with two DCCWs as a Slaughterfiend including a Khorne berzerker as a rider and finished off with Ahriman (finished pics very soon).

Out of that lot I think I'm most pleased with the Herald of Khorne simply because the colour scheme really shouldn't have worked but really did. I don't think I will be doing ay more thousand sons or horrors anytime soon as they, particularly the horros, were hard work. That said I did like doing Ahriman recently.

So what is there in store for this next year? I've signed up for another 1000pts of Chaos, specifying that it will be CSM with Daemon allies for the simple reason that I've seen the pics of the CSM content of the new starter set for 40K and can't wait to get hold of the Chosen or the Hellbrute. There will be some daemons in the shape of screamers (new plastic ones), seeker chariots (a new plastic one and the afore mentioned conversion), more juggers and seekers (hopefully with riders) and possibly a few other things as well. I may also be able to pull myself away from the shiney new plastic long enough to get some old stuff painted as well - RT era nurglesque renegades anyone?

Next up pics of Ahriman finished and the whole year's worth of painting.

Re: Give_me_a_d, Give_me_an_Aemons (Daemons of Chaos Project)

I'm back from holidays etc and I have some pics for you. This is the first of a unit of 3 screamers. Overall I pretty happy with how it turned out, somewhat whiter overall than I had expected but I'm happy with the colour scheme and will now finish the other 2 in the same way.

I'll be jokering this month in the Tale of 40K Painters and posting the screamers and something from Dark Vengance next month. I have been thinking of increasing my points target for this year as I will be mostly painting CSM and on a quick add up I think 1500pts would be quite achievable. I see how it goes up to Christmas and what the actual points are for things when I get the new codex.
