    Repainting my dwarfs... all metal

After recently getting back to the hobby after several years, I took out my old dwarf army and dusted it off. It really needed an overhaul, so I decided to repaint all of it. Stripping all models and repainting them. Redoing banners and stuff like that. Also going to do a few unit fillers to boost the ranks in some units.
I was planning to take part in the ToFP, but I will move to Beijing in this summer, so I wont have time for that. Hope to finish my army before that.

First my longbeards. I forgot to take a "before" photo, so i only have WIP of the standard bearer and the finished unit.

I would like comments on the standardbearer. I rather like it with just white and blue, but what do you guys think? Should I paint runes or something on it? I prefer to give my army a more imperial look, that the current range doesn't have. So all my units will have banners and I will keep the colors simple. Elite units will be blue/white, and ordinary units will be red/white.

    Please do comment.

And also if someone could tell me how to post images instead of thumbnails, it would be much appreciated.

EDIT: And also please comment on the unit filler in the back. It is just a pice of wall, but i couldn't think of anything else.

EDIT II: Just want to add a list of the models in my army:
    Green: Finished
    Yellow: In Progress
    Not started

    20 Longbeards
    20 clansmen

    20 clansmen
    20 Thunderers
    10 Quarrelers

    20 Slayers
    20 Ironbreakers
    2 Bolt Throwers
    2 Cannons
    2 Organ Gubs
    1 Flame cannon
    1 Gyrocopter

    Lord on shieldbearers
    Thane
    Runesmith

    Anvil of Doom, Runelord
Have more stuff, but i have yet to put it all in order... If anyone has some of the old Hammerers, i am VERY interested in buying/trading. I have 4, but i need many more

Fantastic looking stuff. I <3 those old dwarves and the painting is really nice. If you upload your pictures onto a site like photobucket (www.photobucket.com) it will give you several options beneath the uploaded picture, the one at the bottom reads "Forums and bulletin boards" click it and then paste it into your forum message. Keep up the good work

Thanks alot... I will try it now.

This is a unit filler for my clansdwarfs, I dont quite have enough for two units, so i have to do this. What is the consensus on unit fillers? Will most people be ok with them?

Well here it is, treasure hunters hits it big.

Great looking dwarfs, I am so jealous that you have a full unit of those old metal ones!

I think you should add something to banner, maybe some gold rune on the blue side of it. It looks great atm, but a design would make it stand out more I think.

Re: Repainting my dwarfs... all metal

    Hey all here's an update

It is now time to convert what was before one unit of 24 clansdwarfs to two units of 20. With the help of the unit filler i made, i have exactly what looks like 40 dwarfs.

Here is what they looked like before:

And after stripping, basing and basecoat.

Here is a before picture of the standardbearer:

    And after:

Any c&c is more than welcome.
After i paint these i still have slayers, ironbreakers, thunderers, crossbowmen and warmachines to paint. Phew, i am busy

Well as i said i try to make them a little imperial, so i hope i succeed in this.

Well, despite a lack of interest, I will now post pictures of the first unit of clansmen with the unit filler...
I am only 6 models short of having the next unit done as well

So here it is... Again, i would like c&c... I myself am quite happy with them

Re: Repainting my dwarfs... all metal

Sorry for the quadrouble (sp?) post... But i also want to show my other clansmen standard bearer... It was a pain to do this greenstuff banner, and even more a pain to paint it. Didn't consider how the folds would obstruct the painting of it.

    Unpainted:

    Painted:

I would still like advise on further ornamentation on the banners...
    Thanks for looking

EDIT: I PROMISE to practice taking pictures... They are not too good right now. Sorry

really great to see so many old models given so much love! Great painting- I really like your banners- very impressive and quite unique. Also I think your unit fillers are genius- I may have to borrow o few of those ideas myself- i think unit fillers add loads of characer to an army. Looking forward to seeing more- keep it up!!

Yes indeed, those big folded banners are real tricky to build and to paint. You have triumphed, sir.

Brilliant banner, was it a case of flattening out some greenstuff, and cutting it to size. How did you manage it without getting fingerprints all over the place as I really struggle with that!

An the filler chest of gold in the red and white unit is also brilliant and characterful.

That banner looks great, and that unit of clansman looks fab. It never occured to me to use a unit filler, great idea!

Those look great, nice sculpting on the banners! Personally I hate sculpting big floppy flat things like that, I always mess them up. You are an expert sculptor.

Painting also look nice. I don't really think the banners need more details, they are a bold display of the regiments colours. Sometimes simplicity is the way to go.

Unit fillers are a good way to spice up units and potentially save some cash (to buy even bigger armies hehe!). As long as some effort is put into it, it is an enhancement rather than something negative. And yours are great.

Re: Repainting my dwarfs... all metal

Thanks for all the great feedback!! Nice to see that people like my dwarfs.

@Slaaaaaanesh: The big banner, and the long beards banner are both just a case of flattening some GS and cutting it to size. I used ALOT of water to avoid fingerprints, but it is sadly still not quite smooth enough. when i made the smaller banner in the finished clansmen unit i thought that it might be smart to cut a piece of paper and put GS on one side of it, and it worked... I think i will be doing it that way from now on. Much easier and you wont have GS and glue all over your fingers afterwards. Although this way it is difficult to fold it too much.

Thanks again all of you, i really appreciate you feedback! I will finish the rest of the clansmen as quickly as possible so i can go on to my slayers!

    Cool

I like those old models, especially when you add those enormous banners! Keep up the good work !

I too have a unit of the 20 old style clansmen! They do look ace!!!

Regarding the hammerers... Have you looked at Gamezones hammerers? I saw a unit of them on here and they look REALLY nice. Shame I already have a unit of 20 new style ones.... I might buy them anyway and use the GW ones as Clansmen with great weapons...

Their miners look ace as well.
