The beginings of a real life titan?

Just a fun link I thought I'd share
Suddenly the idea of a giant chainsaw on a titan seems a little more realistic if you have a look at "The Ultimate Earth Mover"

Well there's a small company in canada already making mechs to hopefully be fought in arenas sometime in the near-mid future... right now they have a few bipedal 30-40 foot tall mechs equipped with flamethrowers. They actually sold the first one on eBay for 35,000 dollars.

Although not as big, I know that there are a few of these beasties up north in Queensland. I dearly hope my company sends me up there to study on of them - much respect to the iron beast.

I remember hearing about an Australian Engineering Company (I was in a lab with a guy from the company at uni). They were creating a giant mining excavator which was based on a smaller sized one but they needed it to be 4 times bigger. So they simply multiplied all the dimensions by 4 (or 2 I can't remember exactly) and went and built it. Oops. the thing couldn't move. That was a multi-million dollar balls-up.

That excavator is cool. I'd love to see someone roll it! (Let He Who Laughs be standing nearby and it might increase the odds )

Yeah, I've heard the hand-brake on the thing is huge, needs the whole front line-up of the Wallabies to engage it (or a pair of blood-nuts) - but I reckon with Hyland giving them tips, I'd say that thing is as good as rolled

Are you saying I'm a bad driver? Or a hooligan that likes knocking off public property and generally causing havoc? Either would be correct...

Sorry to be the party pooper, but this whole thread is almost horribly off topic - perhaps we can go back to talking about real-life Titan chainsaw attachments and their effects on cute fluffy bunnies...

The problem with that cutter, is it wont turn as fast as you think it would. The torque would be ludicrous, but it wouldn't be like a buzz-saw effect on other Titans/buildings/kittens - the force transmitted through would just shear off great chunks of whatever it touched. I want one. Hey, maybe when we all become millionaires we can each have one built - take it out to the Nullarbor, and play Titan/Uber-earth Mover deathmatch Yeah!!

Actually I was referring to that Crane that nearly toppled on you. That would've hurt.

Anyway I know you're not a bad driver (going around a round about in his Mum's Mazda 121....

The other problem with that cutter is that it's made of buckets rather than blades, so isn't really a cutter so much as a digger...

The machine seems very large considering the size of the functional part. mostly it's just counterweights and so forth, I guess...

An earthmover death match (as per above) would almost be entertaining, if it weren't for us waiting 20 minutes as they crawled toward each other a a third of a mile per hour.

Those treads remind me of a gargant though.

Meh. You all may have your big scoops, but I'm putting in for a fleet of space shuttle crawlers; we'll see who becomes the king of the land-pirates of the seven continents, you wait and see! Hoist the Jolly-CyberSkull and turn the ignition!

More seriously, I've always been rather interested in this sort of behemoth. While I think Titans are mostly rubbish, giant machines like this are truly a marvel to behold.

    More ordinatus than titan.

  16. #16

Re: The beginings of a real life titan?

    That is impressive.
And indeed inspires thoughts of 'Ordinatus' than 'Titan', but it does have that 'Titan arm set up on tracks' feel to it.

    I want one.

Oh, and Pyramid Head? I love you. You were awesome in that game, and hopefully movie

I'm just thinking of the fuel costs..........

Mechs should run on something other than petrol, they should run on alternative fuels.

Hopefully cold fusion will be ready soon and then we will give birth to Space Travel and the true purpose of Mechs and such huge machinery will become applicable.

Its even better when you see 5 of them going away at a quarry. They look absolutely gigantic in real life. I once went on a field trip when i used to live in germany with school to see these.
