Thread: Forge World Reaver Titan - A painting blog..I hope!

    Shini --

Just finished rough assembly (ie, leaving off the shin/knee pads like BullDog said) and it's really the best GW/FW model I've ever built in terms of fit and finish.

I also magnetized my weapons arms -- too hard to transport him otherwise. I used 1/2" x 1/8" disc magnets from Amazing Magnets. They have just the right amount of grab. I tied 3/8" magnets, which would have been a fit with no fiddling in the arm joint (you'll see what I mean,) but they just didn't seem to have the right hold.

For the Tech Priest, I would go small. You could probably do 1/8" x 1/32" without any issues. I use that size for heavy weapon arms and the like on Termies, and they hold very well.

Yep, I'm going the route of painting mine almost unassembled:

Should really do an update as there has been a little progress, actually started work on painting the main body and the legs yesterday! But it's taking me far longer than yours took (I've been working on it since June! Though generally only spend a few hours each weekend on it).

Did find that mine needed a fair amount of cleaning up though, in fact still got pieces that need a lot of work, the missile launcher for instance has a really severe mould line across the back.

Great effects I particularly like the gatling shell and spent casings! Incredible paint job also and as others have mentioned the banners are perfect. Unfortunately I must now hate you due to envy.

Your titan is utterly fantastic. I'm doing mine in the same colour scheme, the one on Forge World's website just looked too amazing not to! But mine won't look even half as good as that when done.

Few people have asked questions regarding the method of magnetising the arms so they can be easily removed for travelling, etc.

    Few pics below.

With a little drilling out the magnets can be fitted flush so the arms simply slot into place.

Here is a picture of the underside of the Reaver weapon arm...

Also the magnet in the weapons themselves, again, fitted to be flush to the surface...

The magnets themselves are VERY powerful NEODYMIUM, quick search on ebay will probably bring up a good selection. Chap I buy them off has a huge range of different sizes, always a good service I have bought plenty for a wide range of projects his ebay seller name is '3711dave'

The particular size used for this project were the 10mm ones shown below...
I wouldn't risk any smaller than this as these 10mm seem to have just enough pull to hold the arms in place with minimum hassle fitting

Also the paints used for the metallic effects. They are made by a company called 'miniature paints' very very good metallic. For the gold sections base black followed by 93 BRONZE, 90 OLD GOLD and finally BRIGHT GOLD (sorry number rubbed off on that one, possibly 91!)

    Hope this helps, have fun!

Did you do all the metallics with the air brush too Bulldog?

If so - what did you use to thin em? Water? Thinners ? A mix?

Sexy painting as usual. The airbrushed paintjobs I've seen on here have inspired me to purchase a couple of el cheapo airbrushes to cut my teeth on.

Hi Lego, yes, metallics airbrushed too, everything thinned using Tamiya thinners, roughly 50/50 ratio

This makes me seriously want to get a Reaver. I'm going to be strong and keep my wallet tucked deep in my pocket though. I haven't even finished my thunderhawk yet.
