    Alternate Minotaurs

I hate the Beast of Chaos Minotaur miniatures. They look like crap. I know they are redoing them "soon," and there have been rumors about plastic Minotaurs, but I'm interested in getting some now. I don't need all GW figures because I play with my friends mostly, so I was wondering if anyone has any alternatives to the crappy GW figures. Thanks for your help!

    Re: Alternate Minotaurs

I believe the beastmen warband in Mordheim has a nicer one, and you could check rackhams site. They are also pretty good.

    Some links...

In this list are 3 different minotaurs:
    http://www.rackham-store.com/boutiqu...&code_lg=lg_us

    And this one:
    http://www.rackham-store.com/boutiqu...&code_lg=lg_us

It might prove worthy to check that site a bit more if you like the models. They quite a few excellent sculpts.

You should be able to find the Mordheim one in the online shop, but here's a pick:

Those Rackham Minotaurs are fantastic, is it just me or does GW sculpts seem to be poorer when compared to other companies, I wonder why that is.........

    MAtter of artistic taste.

Me, I don't like most of Rackhams range. But it's all personal taste.

    Re: Alternate Minotaurs

i'm not a fan of the current minos, I have a unit of 6 of the old realm of chaos era ones tho so that does me.

Heresy Minis do a couple of nice minotaurs.

    Re: Alternate Minotaurs

I find some of the Rackham range a little skinny and weedy. But not those minotaurs. Those minos are great.

Gotsnick what don't you like about those minotaur models- since that's what we're talking about, not all of rackham's range.

    Re: Alternate Minotaurs

The ones lower down just look daft, what with the Ram Horns, and I've never liked Rackhams poses. And the weapons are just daft.

Not that the current GW ones are any cop, but I still don't like Rackhams stuff!

    Re: Alternate Minotaurs

    Cheapest mino ever(£1.50).
Two other cheap minos (£2.50). At the bottom...

These are not the greatest sculpts ever, but neither are the GW minos, and you'd get 8 of that first mino for the price of one GW mino.

Reaper (at the bottom) also have a very nice mino that's available as both white metal and prepainted plastic for quite cheap.

If you're into/reasonably good at modeling you could try kit-bashing some from ogres and gors?

    Re: Alternate Minotaurs

Rackham and GW just have their own style. Rackham has a bit more, how to say it... epic proportion, cartoony style, while GW goes more to the realistic side.

I like both, though it can be a bit difficult to combine. Some of the beast (like these minotaurs) are quite good usable, if you ask me.

Yep, GW's Minotaurs look exactly like the ones in real life do.
“Do not ask me to approach the battle meekly, to creep through the shadows, or to quietly slip on my foes in the dark. I am Rogal Dorn, Imperial Fist, Space Marine, Emperor’s Champion. Let my enemies cower at my advance and tremble at the sight of me.”

Right... if that's what you understood from my post.
I was talking general style, not wether or not minotaurs exist.
And even a non-exisitent creature can be presented as either having huge bulky muscles, an axe the size of a car and horns that would snap its neck, or make it more look like something that would have actual chances of being a real creature if evolution just had gone that direction.

    Re: Alternate Minotaurs

1.) GW Bloodbowl once had a nice Minotaur, but can't find a pic now (have the mini).
2.) The Rackham Minotaurs were mentioned
3.) Didn't know the Scibor mini, but it is very nice.
4.) Hordes have some nice ones : http://www.battlefield-berlin.de/sho...oduct=PIP72022
, also see Trollbloods http://www.battlefield-berlin.de/sho...php?list=WG771 and Skorne http://www.battlefield-berlin.de/sho...php?list=WG773 for similar miniatures (non-Minotaur)
    5.) Judge yourself: Masquerade http://www.battlefield-berlin.de/sho...duct=MASQ35007
6.) Most Reaper Minotaurs are not that convincing, but this one is not bad http://www.battlefield-berlin.de/sho...oduct=REA02964
7.) Also not so good Fenryll http://www.battlefield-berlin.de/sho...&product=FM100
8.) MSB has some Elephant men: http://www.battlefield-berlin.de/sho...oduct=MSB_E005

Summary: Rackham, Scibor and Hordes are recommended.

    Re: Alternate Minotaurs

I know that all of the most accessible have been mentioned but my favourites hasn't been mentioned and my other fav was only talked about in passing.

Fav #1 Taurg la Haiche from Ilyad Games
They went out of business and the world of gamers wept. This is a huge minotaur that is now a hard one to find. Primarily because everyone is unwilling to part with the one they bought just as it was closing. I've got the model and it is gorgeous. Literally jaw-dropping. I doubt you'll try and collect a unit of them but I still felt it was worth mentioning. Especially as someone may be crazy enough to use it as a Minotaur Lord. Behold the piccie:
    http://www.asmodee.com/retour-des-di...che.jpg&MO=872

The second one is the mordheim minotaur. Definitely a joy to convert.

    Re: Alternate Minotaurs

I like Rackham models (having a great deal of them with my daemons). While I never held myself as a big fan of French art, seeing that I love various French comics, their vicual style in movies - especially ones by Luc Besson -, I have to admit that I've ended up as a big fan of French stuff. There's a great deal of models there that'll work as pretty much anything GW has made. Yes, they're slimmer and many bits seem too prone to break if treated like an average GW model, but they're still stunning models and not too expensive either.

You can always look to have something that's not an minotaur. I mean, I have Rackham wolfens as my Fiends, so as long as it fills in the spot that you need it for, it's all good.

    Re: Alternate Minotaurs

Wow guys, thanks for all the input. I always love the responses I can get on my friendly neighborhood Warseer Forum.

Braad: The Mordheim one is a bit too calm for me, but a nice sculpt. I'm not a huge fan of Rackham's style, although some of their models tickly my fancy. The Minotaurs do not.

Sleazy: Heresy has some fantastic models, even if they are a bit pricey. The minotaur is not one of their best.

Mad Doc Grotsnik: I agree wholeheartedly about the Rackham stuff.

mrtn: They have an excellent price, but it looks like you get what you pay for. Thank you for the tip, however.

Kronos: I think that guy looks super confused. It's almost like he's saying, "This way...uh, I think." Thanks anyway.

ukko: I don't think of bit fat monsters when I think of minotaurs, but it was a good suggestion. Thanks!

    dodicula: Hilariously off-topic. Thank you!

Bregalad: Thank you for your all-encompassing suggestions. I hated it at first, but I'm really starting to like the elephant-type monster! I wonder what he would look like in a serengeti-style Beast army.

Gorog Irongut: Man... I would LOVE to get my grubby hands on one of those minotaurs! That thing is amazing! I can't believe they aren't selling them anymore. What a terrible shame.

MrBigMr: That's a good point, I shouldn't feel confined to one kind of animal (bull-type) for my Beast army. They have all kinds of Beastmen, right? I'm going to have to do some long and hard thinking about that serengeti Beastman army...

    Re: Alternate Minotaurs

There are some other great elephant men on that site from MSB toys (who are MSB toys anyway?).

There are also some really awesome Rhino models. Although I think they would be too short to count as Minotaurs?

    The Chief at http://www.battlefield-berlin.de/sho...oduct=MSB_R002
looks like he would be too small right?
