Thanks for the comments. And t-o-l-o, I think you're right about adding a few more patches of grass on the rocky surfaces. Raising these areas would also help, but I have to take into consideraton that the lay-out of the table should be changeble and that models need to move around the table freely.

Hello,

today I added browns to the table, as I thought that was missing. I added a highlight to the grey rocks. Than I added watereffect, because I still thought the table looked a little bit lifeless. With the water effect, it looks more realistic I think.

most big flat fields have a few soggy spots like that.

That looks great! The water effects look really realistic, as was mentioned. The table looks earthier/grittier now, and more life-like. Good choice to re-colour it a bit!

Well the watereffect dried pretty dull. So I'll pour some more on the same spots, hopefully the wet effect will be more prominent. Today I helped clearing an attic full of wooden planks and beams. Some of it was going to be thrown away, so I took it. I sawed of the screws that were sticking out, sawed the planks to the dimensions of the table. Than I nailed the planks to the bottomside of the table. This prevents the warping. Both tables are now only warping slightly, you can't even see it in this blurry picture...



Next steps will be adding some more short planks on some spots matching the dimensions of the support layer. That is because the tables, when used next to eachother, have a piece of mdf as a support. If I would lay the two on it now, the tables will tilt.

I need to flock and paint the other table in the same manner as the first and add some more water effect. And paint the sides black or grey.

Than the table is basicely done and it is time for some more scenery. The pros of this table is that you can play small battles on on half (120 x 150 cm), and when you want to play really large battles, put the two halfs together (150 x 240 cm). It was cheap to make, mainly because of the supportbeams for free.

The cons: it is pretty heavy and costs some energy to put together. But hey, it's mobile. I don't have the spare room to keep it in one place, but it fits nicely in a closet.

Hopefully I will finish the basic table this weekend. I started flocking the second table. When it's dry tommorow I can paint parts brown and highlight the rocky areas a bit. Then I'm ging to add more water effect. And paint the sides of the table black. I also flocked the display bases of my two 2000 points orc & goblins armies, to match the table. I put the armies together on the table, and the 4000 points fit perfectly well on one quarter!

Well, the basic table is ready. The light and colors look different from different angles. There's also a barrack that me and my friend Willem painted.

I'm looking forward making some rocky hills.
