    Re: Warhammer table

After a half year absence, finally an update. I did some work on the Warhammertable. I moved my bedroom upstairs, now I have the larger room downstairs as a gaming room. I screwed storagestands together to get a flat surface. On top op that I've put the tabletops I allready made. The height around 90 cm, so fairly high, I lke it that way, makes eyeleveling with the mini's a bit easier. A few pictures of a battle I've played on it.

    Re: Warhammer table

I have enough of those storage stands, to support the whole town project I started this year. But when I put the whole thing in the room, it was such an unwieldy lay out, you are barely able to reach a large part of the table and you can barely walk around it. Then there is the river that is almost big enough to play a game of Warhammer on. I should have known it... This isn't going to work. A bloody shame, I spent lots of time on it allready and was looking forward to paint the town and it's surroundings. So what to do. I thought about that for nearly a month. I made the table in an U shape, this table lay out gives me the opportunity to create different settings, for instance, it would be cool to play a battle with one in the middle, surrounded by another army. Maybe creating a 40K table or Spacehulk table. And for siege games, a smaller walled town in the middle, with only the walls and edges visible. In the centre of the town, a player can stand to direct his defending troops. This is better thought out, because I have to consider that the town is supposed to be enjoyable to defend and attack in a siegegame. I think I'll start from scratch with the town. The parts I already made could be used for another table, I mean table top, Like for instance, The rivercrossing with the bridge could be situated in mid winter, with the river frozen. In that way you can also use the river to walk on and it would look cool. In the mean time, the large parts are kept underneath the table.

I also made some lights underneath to light the shelves. The shelves are for army books, casualties and beverages :-)

This is very impressive! I'd love to game on a table like that... perhaps I'll use yours as a muse for me to create one. Kudos to a job well done and am looking forward to a possible town creation too!

    nice work...

one thing I might suggest, which I learned from making my own tables, which I will be applying to new tables I'll be making in the future is this: Don't texture the whole table with sand and grit, and then apply static grass after.

Apply texture with sand and grit, where you want the texture, and leave the areas that will have grass bare. You'll get a smoother and cleaner effect with the grass when it applied to the flat wood surface (obviously with an appropriately coloured base coat of paint under the grass), and better base for minis to sit upon.

Thanks Lord Cedric and Beppo1234, also thanks for the advice. I'm currently assembling a large goblin force, but am looking forward doing more work on the table.

That is such a great setup. My wargame room is so small in comparison! Love the amount of space you have for removed models, and the in-game shot with rulebooks open on a separate table.
