Ok, here's a sneak peak of my WIP Exalted Champion / Lord, put him together with blu-tak so you could get an idea. Need to get some more modelling putty today so I can move forward with him.

Hi there. I really like the path you have chosen with your conversions and army style. I particularly like Zorion and exalted champion very nice conversions. Keep it up and may further modeling give you plenty of pleasure

Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

Now that's what I'm talking about! One or two suggestions though. If you can, take a look in the new WD, at artwork of the slaaneshi warriors on page 10 and notice how the champion is holding the flail more in the middle than at the end. That is how I would model it if it were me, and I know your skills are good enough to replicate that. The choice of head is good, though I'd be inclined to try and sink it in a little more, trying to have it looking across the battlefield, rather than at the sky. I know it's only blutacked, but it's a great use of the two kits. Well done.

Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

Thanks Reik, glad you like them.

Hi Nightsword, yeah, the head will be more sunken so he can be looking across the battlefield as you say just the effect of the blu-tack that.
Since I've posted the pics I've modified the flail as I noticed looking at the middle of the 2 pictures that the portion above his hand looked far too long so I have shortened that and tried to add more below the hand although there's very little room on that side of his hand with the posture of the model but it looks a lot better positioned and proportioned now.
If the weather gets itself sorted out I'll be taking him out to get him undercoated and then can start painting him.

Neron spat at the ground, disgusted with himself. He'd followed that weakling Archaon. He'd seen the Gods turn their backs on the Everchosen and their glorious war had come to an abrupt halt. Now here he was making an inglorious retreat back north leading a handful of the tribesmen he'd led south for the promise of slaughter and rapine.

They'd marched for days and the grasslands had given way to tundra and the tundra had given way to the barren lifeless Chaos wastes. To start with their retreat had been greatly hindered by outriders and then by rival tribes still spoiling for war. Neron and his men had quickly dispatched all who stood in their way and offered up their souls to the Gods. In the distance Neron spied a lone building. Even from this distance he could make out the ornate decoration that adorned the strange building and new it at once to be a shrine.

He brought his men to a halt once they grew closer to the shrine and made the last small part of the trek alone. A breeze seemed to issue from the black engulfing portal of the shrine and the breeze carried dark whispers that prickled at Neron's ears. The archway was lavishly decorated with golden scrollwork and crude drawings on the walls, penned in dried blood, depicted writhing humans, presided over by a winged beast.

'Neron!' The whispers rose to a nerve shattering crescendo and then ceased. The blackness seemed to beckon Neron into it and his legs carried him in despite his doubting mind. The darkness engulfed him and his stomach lurched as if he'd been launched from his feet yet they stood on a floor of rounded stones. A very dim light rose around Neron and he could make out the floor around him and see the far wall about three paces away from him.

'Neron The Destroyer. Great Debaucher. Neron The Refulgent One,' came a harsh hissing voice.
'I am Neron. Who addresses me?'
'I know Neron. His path is clear to me. Great and terrible he might be. Foolishness and weakness are the paths he frequents for now.'
'Who addresses me!' bellowed Neron into the darkness as it seemed to grow around him once more.
'I am Glorious He,' the voice answered sharply.
'What do you want of me?'
    'An answer,' the voice responded.
'What is your question?' Neron's agitation edging his words.
'Why did you follow the Jester, the Fool, the so called Everchosen?'
'It was the will of the Gods.' Neron answered flatly. He span around slowly trying to identify the source of the voice as it spoke to him once more.
'You know nothing of the Gods' will. The Fool was doomed to failure. Not a one of the Gods would share the spoils of war. My sweet father, my sweet mother would never bless such a being as he.'
'Tell me creature, what do you know of the Gods?' Neron felt a great force of static energy descend on him and he fell to his knees.
'Kneel!' The whisper rose to a roar then quickly receded back to a hiss. 'I can tell you all if you swear your soul to me wonderful Neron. I am Elazar, beloved of Shornaal. Glorified servant of Slaanesh. I can grant you powers your mind can't imagine. Show you things your eyes will not believe. You will feel sensations beyond your most depraved dreaming. Men and women will fall at your feet in awe and love. All you need to do is swear yourself to me.'
The static energy coursed through Neron's muscles and bones sending him into agonising spasms and he screamed tortured screams he never thought his body capable of. Harsh laughter filled the air and the spasms intensified. He heard movement, chitinous claws scratched at his skin but his eyes couldn't locate them.
'I swear,' Neron screamed between the wracking spasms. 'I'm yours.'
A hissed roar greeted him from the dark as a great winged beast stepped into the light and knocked him unconscious with a graceful swipe of a crab like clawed hand...

And this is Neron, got a little bit of tidying up to do but you get the idea.

Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

Instead of finishing painting my unit of Warriors, improving Zorion or any of the other of the myriad sub-projects within my Warriors of Chaos army I've been putting together my first unit of Marauders of Chaos. They're equipped with great weapons (you might now have started to notice I have something of a love of great weapon wielding units). They all need a lot of work yet with plenty of putty needed on the necks for their helmets and to tidy them up but I'm pleased with how they're coming along so I thought I'd post some pics of the front rank.

The unit Champion Zigor on his own. Still want to add some more detail to him when I get started with the putty!

Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

Neron is looking very good. With some highlights and a little more shading this could be spectacular. For example, you could use some shading on the shield around the edges where the flat bit meets the trim, almost like lining. Both colours you are using are fairly pale and similar in tone, so a lining will help differentiate the two from each other a bit better.

Marauders look very cool, it's not often you see someone combine those 2 kits together very well, at least in my opinion anyway. I bet you can't way for the new sprue?

Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

Nightsword: I want to go back and do some more highlighting and shading on Neron to make him look more complete. Just giving it a few days so I don't have quite the same fear of ruining it that set in when I was painting him!

Glad you like the Marauders. And yes, I'm waiting very very impatiently for all the new plastic goodies so I can go wild. Already have a few ideas for a unit of Chosen combining a lot of the plastic kits (my Greatsword Warriors are going to be just 'regular' warriors) as I'm not a massive fan of the new chosen minis.

Saulot: Thanks, I really wanted my army to be unique but in a subtle way and bashing the plastic kits has helped achieve that so far. Also, I'm glad you appreciate the subtle Slaaneshi vibe. I've always loved Slaanesh for the fluff and in particular the side of Slaanesh that appeals to leaders of men who wish to inspire awe in their minions. Always seen Slaanesh as being the God of Lust, Pride and Vanity and preferred to go more with the last two themes as the first is very much over done (although still an integral part)

Zigor: Not often you get a post from the mini you've just put together! Hope you like your representative in my army then!

Monsterzonk: Thanks, I do a lot of writing in my non-warhammer allocated spare time but find Warhammer crossing into my writing more often than not so enjoyed writing a little snippet of fluff for Neron. I'm glad you like the Harry conversion. It took a lot of willpower once I'd bought the figure and had planned what I was doing not to wuss out and just make Harry the Hammer. It felt a little like blasphemy being as he's such an awesome mini.

Right, now for an update. I'm working on my first Sorceror of Chaos. Picked him up for £3 on ebay.

50 points to the first person to tell me the name of this classic mini.
My problem with him is, he's a little on the small side in comparison to the rest of the army. Whilst I don't want him to look physically imposing I do want him to look magically imposing. So I'm thinking of something to do with his base so that he is truly looking down on those around him. Anybody have any ideas? Maybe a fire-surfing base or some such? I could just make him taller but that seems like such a boring solution!

P.S. I love the pose of this mini, very Darth Vader: 'I find your lack of faith disturbing'

Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

Perhaps a disc, or the floating stones like in the High Elf wizards kits? Slate makes a good base, that'd make him taller. No idea what he's called, so I will call him Zargoid.

Here's a tutorial for painting red cloth if your interested:

I love what you're doing with your Slaaneshi army. As a fellow Slaanesh player I feel inspired by you. Neron is a great model. Its a fairly simple conversion but very effective. I had also considered doing Marauders the way you have and now that I have seen yours I definitely will. Good Work.

Zigor looks great really nice subtle yet very effective conversion, I really like how your great weapon fetish is motivating your conversions Those marauders are ace Nightsword idea with stones combined with some magic fire/Slaaneshi eruption would look nice IMHO I don't know yet whats his name but you've got 50 pts from me for using a golden oldie

Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

Nightsword: Thanks for the tutorial, will come in handy.

Erazmus: Thanks, glad you find my army inspiring. Let me know if you post yours up on Warseer and I'll be sure to have a look!

Reik: Thank you for your comments. I absolutely love your chaos army so far so any praise from you is greatly received! Yep, the Great Weapon fetish definitely keeps me busy. I think the main reason I like Great Weapons is because none of the Chaos plastics have a great weapon option as standard (althought the new sprue will change that slightly) so it takes a little work and allows me to make my army slightly more unique just by changing their equipment slightly and that's before I decide to do anything else such as the Warrior helmets for the Marauders (although I have to say, I'm finding it very hard work to keep myself motivated clipping horns and filing them down, find my mind wandering to other things, such as the sorcerer!).

    Lion: Thank you

Thanks for all your suggestions for my sorcerer, liking a few of the ideas put forward and experimenting with a few things, will update when I have a little more done. Maybe someone can get the mini's name before then.

Zigor: Good glad you like him!

Dark Mage: Thanks, greatly appreciated. Yes, I'm looking forward to working on the Daemon, will probably be holding off for the Plastic Daemon Prince kit so I have plenty to work with!

Right, haven't gotten a great deal done recently. Too busy decorating the house to be able to spend much time on Warhammer. Have been playing with a few ideas for bases but will post them at a later date.

Have put together some more marauders

And in something of a shock I've actually done some more work on one of my many unfinished projects and started painting the musician in the Warriors w/ Great Weapons unit.

Got lots and lots to be getting on with but will post a proper update in the next couple of days.
