Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

Thanks Woody. I'm trying to paint my way through the Marauders fairly quick so they're not going to be perfect but hoping a couple of washes will do some effective shading and then highlighting back up. Tired of having so many unpainted miniatures lurking everywhere!

lol, i have the same affliction, and now that im about to start wood elves, hopefully my bad habit will not continue as there is going to be a tale of (many) gamers at my local club next month, should spur me into action.
    But yeh.
    Cheers

Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

This is my Sorcerer on Chaos Steed conversion. Named Inigo The Majestic, I haven't really come up with any fluff for him yet but when I do I will post it up here.

The photos aren't brilliant as they were taken on a different camera which seems to have made the colours look very different so will have to have a play about with it. He's been put together with bits and pieces. The body is Malekith. Found a few odds and ends from before my hiatus from the hobby and he was amongst them, sadly I don't seem to have his dragon anymore. The staff is the bannertop from the Chaos Knights on a marauder banner pole and the arm holding it is actually a 40k Eldar Guardian arm. Quite pleased with how he turned out and I love the pose of the horse. The Knights' horses are so very well sculpted.

Oh and Incoming, there's pretty much a constant stand-off between Warhammer and meal times at the minute seeing as the dining table is the only real spot for me to do anything and I always have umpteen models half built and umpteen models half painted on it!

Second in a row. Thought I'd put up a few pictures of Neron now he's been appointed Battle Standard Bearer. Still have work to do on the banner but gives you an idea of what I'm trying to do with it.

Making my way through the marauder regiment that he leads. Will hopefully have pics for them by the weekend!

Very nice colour choice, maybe add some inks and they'll be great

Here's a few pics of the Marauder regiment.

They're far from perfect and I'll probably go back to them and make some improvements at a later date but they mark my first 1000pts fully painted so I can start work on the other projects that are sitting waiting for me such as finishing my marauder horsemen, knights, chariots, converted dragon ogres, Be'Lakor, repainting Zorion The Resplendent and another regiment of Warriors!

Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

No comments on my marauders yet...

I've been working on my Chaos Knights and painting my Marauder Horsemen (will hopefully have some decent WIP pics of these in the next couple of days).

Also I'm trying to decide whether to do my next unit of warriors with Halberds or with HW/Shields. I'm veering towards Halberds as I have the lances off of 2 boxes of Chaos Knights to put to use. What's everybody else's opinion?

Got a 1000 point game against a Skaven army tomorrow. Will post an update of how that goes when I post up the next batch of pics.

Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

This is shaping up really nicely! I think the Sorcerer on steed is just cool, and the Marauders look nice too. The snow bases fit the theme nicely, though I'd recommend painting the rims black anyways, but that's just me...
So what will be next? I'd really love to see your take on Be'Lakor...

    Cheers,

Nice pose on the Marauder next to the musician, swinging his axe to cut the enemy in two!
Looking forward to some Dragon Ogres!

Go for the Halberds on the Chaos dudes, I would say, but more from an estethical point than a gaming point of view: they would look great! Besides, they're pretty nice in while battling too, I guess.

Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

Monsterzonk: Cheers, glad you like the sorcerer. He turned out quite well. Yeah, I want to do something different with the rims of the bases. I was going to go for a blue colour but I've been too lazy to do them all so far!
As for what's next, well I'm trying to show a bit of discipline so I'm going to do get the Horsemen painted and the Knights built (and preferably painted but I don't think I have the willpower) before I move onto Be'Lakor. Really looking forward to doing something with such a great mini as that one!

C-Coen: That marauder is my favourite for the pose too! Looks like he's about to make mincemeat of whoever is standing infront of him. I'm definitely leaning towards the Halberds for the marauders for all the reasons you say. Should look cool. I think they'll be for after pretty much everything else on the list though as I just don't have the patience or discipline to do them next and ignore all the other things I want to do!

Had my 1000pt battle with Skaven. Well, actually had 2. The first was something of a white wash. My opponents Warp-Lightning Cannon and Warpfire Throwers were quite devastating. My opponent also had a nice big unit of Plaguemonks and they went through my Marauders like a hot knife through butter. I found it hard work out manouevering a M5 army that outnumbered me so well. My warriors did quite well agains the clan rats making a massive dent and forcing them to flee the only problem was I didn't catch them and the Warp-Lightning Cannon decimated the unit so that when they charged back in once the clan rats rallied they weren't able to hold against the Static CR and were run down. My dice rolling was fairly poor for this game but you make your own luck and I failed to make any for myself apart from Inigo managing to cast Ecstatic Seizures and mostly destroy a unit of Storm Vermin.

So after being destroyed we had a second game and my opponent went for a Clan Pestilens army. I thought this game might go a lot better for me as there were no Warpfire Throwers and then he rolled a misfire and lost the War-Lightning Cannon on his first turn. Sadly I couldn't manage to get the charge with my infantry blocks against his plague monks and the EOTG forcing me to challenge Plague Priests with my sorcerers left them in tatters. Definitely need to use a lot more cavalry the next time I come up against Skaven to ensure I can get the charge on the Plague Monks.

Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

The marauders are looking very clean and some of the conversions you are coming out with are top notch.

If I were to critique, I think you start developing some contrast in some of the tones such as the flesh. The lines your getting are really smooth, you just need some extra zing to make those muscles pop

Monsta mentioned painting the rims black earlier too, but I'd be inclined to do them graveyard earth or kommando khaki, just to finish the base off you no, the rims kinda look "just" primered at the minute, and a neutral colour like this will set "finish" the base, without drawing your eye to much, as those colours aren't a big departure from white. Just my though.

    Good work bruta

Thanks Nightsword. Yeah I see what you mean with needing more contrast in my painting. I plan on getting a few more units built up and then going back and perfecting what I've painted so far. Thanks for the advice on the base rims, I'm really unsure so far on what colour to go for. I was trying a few out the other day but got distracted before finding anything that jumped out at me. Watch this space and hopefully I'll have them done soon!

Right, thought I'd also post a couple of WIP pics of my Knights just to give an idea of what I'm working on.

They are far, far, far, far away from being finished so far. I've got so many little details I want to add yet and I need to do quite a bit of greenstuff work for them. So far I've changed all the horns on the helmets. I wanted a slightly different look to the horns on their helms and spent quite a while carving up the little bits that were left from the Bloodletters plastics that I used back in the beginning for my Warrior regiment (words cannot do justice to how much I love the Bloodletter plastics for all the bits they've given me!). I also took a couple of heads from the Warrior frames such as the Skull helm and the musician's head (but wanted to give him a top-knot so that he wasn't exactly the same as the Warrior's musician) but also one of the regular helmets. I plan on having the Knights show off the arrogance and pride theme for my Slaaneshi army as best as possible. They're all going to have personal banners (I'm thinking pennants on banner poles attached to the saddles possibly) and I'm thinking of having a go at sculpting robes and capes for them 'of the finest silks'. Not sure how that'll turn out though.

Let me know what you think so far and if you have any other ideas.

Thought I'd post a few WIP pics of the Marauder Horsemen. The horses are nearly finished, a few bits of touching up to do and then I'll get the riders finished.

Trying to get these finished for my game at the weekend.

Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

Looking good, I would definitely second the idea of painting the rims a neutral color though. Graveyard, Khaki, Codex or Fortress Grey are all frontrunners. White just doesn't look so hot on bases IMO, even snow bases. Nightsword has a good point about the army needing a tiny bit more contrast to really pop. This shouldn't be a problem with the Marauder Cav, given the darker colors on them.
