Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

Sculpting some add-ons for the Marauders, not yet finished but thought I'd post the latest.

I've decided to model the marauders with scraps of their victims flesh nailed to their armour, decorating helms and totem poles etc. Something a bit like the delightfully alliterated Mengil Manhide's Manflayers.

Scrapped all previous ideas for the Sorcerer's base (still no one has found out the minis name) and going with something different having chopped and remodelled one of the many bits and pieces on the Giant sprues. Will post pics when it's a little bit further along.

That looks very unique. Not sure about the banner though, but the rest looks good. Maybe try and smooth the putty a little more though.

    Looking good Elazar.

Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

    *

Isidro Devante stalked between the houses of the small town, enjoying the sounds of the carnage and the smells of the flames as the wind carried them both keener to his senses.

He'd allowed his men to enjoy the slaughter as long as they left ample numbers of captive to take back with them. Whilst the gods would revel in the destruction the warband had sown upon the small village, Isidro needed the slaves to dedicate their souls to the gods to bind some of their power to him.

Isidro rounded a corner and saw a peasant man bent over the body of a young woman who lay still and lifeless. The peasant man must have heard his foot falls or sense him in some other way as he looked up and stood abruptly to his feet, an axe in hand. His face was a vision of tormented rage and beneath his helm Isidro Devante allowed himself a smile at the man's anguish.
The main raise his axe and charged at Isidro.

He needed the slaves but Isidro reasoned that he should allow himself a little enjoyment too. He summoned his energies and made a brief and silent dedication of the man's soul to his patron Elazar. The man ran across the clearing and down the row of houses towards him. Isidro Devante thrust out his hand holding aloft in the other the symbol of the gods, the focus for his power and clutch at the life force of the man as if it were a physical, tangible thing. The man collapsed to his knees, dropping his axe and grasping at his throat a few paces from Isidro.

Terror flooded into the man's eyes, as if it had been held at bay by a dam but that dam had splintered and crashed down under the pressure. Isidro Devante chuckled to himself and tightened the pinch hold on the man's soul. The man began to choke violently and his hands ripped frantically at his throat with growing force and tore away layers of flesh. The eyes of the man glazed over and he thrust his hands into his own throat, his nails plunging into red ruin.

Isidro took three paces towards the man, not relaxing his grip. He smiled an unseen smile of malice as the man destroyed his own throat and airways and the decided to put him out of his misery, thrusting an armoured boot into the man's ribs. He was sent sprawling backwards, the last of the air in his lungs knocked from his and his life expelled.

Isidro Devante continued on, stalking through the town. He'd keep the next one alive he promised himself.

He's not finished yet, still got a few bits to do but I haven't posted lately so I thought I'd post this now and then update once he's slightly further along.

Whilst the base size isn't kosher I couldn't help myself but build this scene once the idea popped into my head. It's a continuation of my love for the sorcerer model with it's Darth Vader likeness methinks! The base is from Harry The Hammer. I used the scared peasant from the Giant sprue but cut off both of his legs and one arm so that I could reposition them. The familiar was another wonderful ebay purchase for £1.50!
Still got a few bits to do, particularly on the peasant. Also, need some writing scrawled across the pages of the spell book familiar.

Thanks Gitkilla and Nightword. Haven't done any more work on the marauders yet as I've been quite busy lately. Have started work on my War Altar, it's very early stages yet but I will show you this...

'Tis the beginnings of a wall of trapped souls. Planning on having this chained to a palanquin or similar and carried aloft by a couple of chaos warriors but this will be a long term project methinks as it has to look perfect!

that sorcerer scene is incredible it's completely non sci fi Darth Vader. He would bbe proud. your work is great and the fluff is awesome. however Nurgle shall rule supreme (except the dodgy new sorc model).

p.s. did you name the demon after elzar in futurama???

Hats off to you Elazar!....your Sorcerer Mini Diarama is devilishly good. Is the Sorcerer detachable from the Scene or permanent? Regardless I realy like the inbuilt story within the model. Will keep a greedy eye out for the completed version LION

Your marauder champion up at the top of this page is ace. Reminds me of the Marauders from Age of Reckoning.

Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

Hi everyone, has been a little bit since my last update as I've been working on another long term project... My beautiful new daughter, Imogen. Hope to get some things done soon but as you can appreciate free time is at something of a premium at the moment!

Mrtn and loveless: Thank you very much

Reign beaux: Glad you like him, that's exactly what I was going for so that's brilliant. No the name Elazar is a basque name, a theme I'm trying to keep to with all of the named minis e.g Zorion, Isidro, Neron, Zigor etc.

Lion: Thanks Lion, the sorcerer isn't detachable. I was going to make it so that he could be removed but I couldn't get it to sit how I wanted it to that way so he ended up being 'planted' into the putty.

Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

First of all congratulations she's gorgeous!

And now on to the hobby things. I somehow missed last updates so...
those marauders really look nice, I love the idea of manflyers. The wizard diorama is a great idea. I had a similar problem with making my Harry detachable because I could not decide whether I want to use the diorama skeletal base or a proper gaming one so I pinned him but the pin is glued only to the base not the model itself but gravity still made him walking in a drunken way so I had to stabilize him with a stone. This can help if you decide one day to use your wiz. on a 25mm base.

    Once again congratulations!!

Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

Been a long while again between updates but I am still working on my Warriors of Chaos army just in dribs and drabs at the moment!

Thanks for your comment Reik. Glad you like the marauders and the sorcerer diorama. Will keep that in mind if I decide to switch him between a 25mm base and his diorama at a later date.

Well, I've done the front rank of the Warriors with Greatswords regiment now. Has only taken me forever! Problem is I get distracted by all the other models that need putting together and converting and so they haven't gotten all the attention they deserve!

I'm not happy with the banner yet, sadly I need a lot more practice at painting freehand but for the moment the rather crude serpent and runes will have to do. The second rank of warriors is mostly done too now just got a few bits to finish off with them and I will post pics of the unit as a whole.

Now I've got these to distract me too though so it's going to be tough getting the rest of the painting finished before I fall to the lure of the shiny new plastic frames!

    Woo, new stuff!

Nice work so far bud, lets keep seeing these updates.

Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

    They look great!
I love all the little conversions that put into each model, it gives a quite unique army.

Maybe my only suggestion would be to add maybe some patches of maybe dead grass(so that the snow covers it, but that you still can see it) or maybe gravel etc., as white snow on white base edges can get a bit bland(though i see that you already have added some things on some of the models, which looks really god).

I love the marauder conversion, they look a bit more as I picture them, than the normals do(more menacing and "powerful", yet not to powerful, like slaves of chaos).

Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

Thanks Nightsword hope to get another update up tomorrow, was hoping the weather would be better than it is today so I could get some more spray painting done.

Thanks for the comments Prince Bel-Vegard. I do see what you mean about the bases. It is something I want to do something about because like you say it does look a little bland on some of the models.
Glad you like the marauders. The plastic marauders are I think something of a disappointment when compared to the fluff and brilliant imagery that goes with them. The Marauder horsemen seem to be a step forward and some of the heads on their sprue are really good and will be seeing use elsewhere throughout the army methinks!

Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

Right, haven't gotten a great deal done but here's a quick WIP for the Marauder Horseman champion. Decided to sculpt a pointing finger on one hand and use the one handed flail from the marauders on foot sprue (as my horsemen are going to be flail armed) the finger is just a mock up at the minute, need to do it properly and want to modify him a bit more as well to make him a bit more unique. What do you think so far?

I've also started on the Hounds but will post pics of them once I have a couple painted up. I didn't like the horns on them so I sculpted fur over the slots for them and I think they look better that way.

Man, somehow I missed your latest updates... Those Warriors are simply awesome! Great conversions and the colour scheme is ... disturbing. Love it! Looking forward to what you'll be doing with those new Knights.

    Cheers,

Re: The Devotees of Elazar - Chaos Mortals

Thanks Mrtn and Monsterzonk. I'm looking forward to working on the knights but building up to them as I want them to be extra special.

Anyway, here's a quick WIP of the Warhounds. Just a test of the colour scheme I'm going for, the idea is it ties in with the fur on the cloaks of the warriors etc to try and unify the army as much as possible. Needs tidying up and a bit of work and then need to do the other 9 but let me know what you think.

Also, here's the next few WIP shots of the Marauder Horsemen. They still need a lot of work as I want to add some extra bits to them and try and put my own stamp on them a little.
