    Angels of Redemption

This is going to be my rather slow Angels of Redemption plog.

I have always loved the Dark Angel fluff. But I thought they look at little too dark to really look good, plus Ravenwing and Deathwing are black and bone coloured so the whole effect - green black and white is a little messy.

After a few hours of flicking through the DA codex and reading through the Successor Chapter fluff. I decided that the Angels of Redemption were the ones for me.

I have quite a few marine's hanging around in my cupboard so I had a bit of a dig and brought it all to the surface and when I added it all up it came to a 1000 points.

The last problem was the colour scheme... split colour schemes... alot of people loathe them. I wasn't convinced I could carry it off. I decided though so long as I kept the green fairly light and the bone fairly dark I should be laughing.

    Index of Posts....
    Colours Described
    First Squad Finished
    Dreadnaught Finshed
    Whirlwind Finished
    Landspeeder Finished
    Terminator Squad Finished
    Army Finished

So this guy is my tester...

I was pretty satisfied with this. So I pressed on (about 6 months after painting the tester).

This is the one single tactical squad the force contains (ahem) and Sammy on his rocket ship behind.

And this is the other half, a dread with a plasma cannon, a whirlwind and 6 bikers. Oh yeah and a speeder.

I really like with the split colour scheme. As a group they balance out the whole "is it a white army? Or is it a green one?" factor.

Okay that's it for now. Hope you like them...

And I hope you repent as well! because tomorrow you, um, YOU DIE!

I like the models, can't wait to see a full squad up and done. How are you going to paint vehicles?

    Re: Angels of Redemption

The dreadnought will be done like the marines. He is small enough to pull it off. Plus he will get lots of scrolls to link the green and white. Or I can add a few warning stripes to the powerfist or paint the plasma cannon red.

The whirlwind is a pain. The rear door has an "angel of death" on it so I will paint it as a banner which will reverse the colours there. I thought to add some more scrolls and books from the ravenwing sprue to link the green and white. I have thought about reversing the colours on the exhaust covers, to help mix the colours. I am also hoping that some of elements of the launcher will look good either as a dark metal colour or something else and hopefully tie it together.

Very nice. I like the sharpness of the green, and the building-up from brown for the bone. Kudos for using that khaki color, too.

    The green is....

Basecoat is Orkhide Green - This foundation is basically DA green without all gloss.

The main coat is 1 part each of Orkhide, Snot Green and Goblin Green all mixed up. I leave some basecoat in the recesses.

    First highlight is Goblin Green.

    Second highlight is Scorpion Green.

If I have botched the highlights in some places like the crest on the helmet or between armour plates then I put in some black wash and use my fingure to take away the excess.

    The "bone"...

    Basecoat Calthan Brown.

Main Coat Dheneb Stone. leaving some Calthan brown exposed.

    Washed with Devlan mud.

A second coat of Dheneb Stone again just to tidy up the wash.

    Highlighted with Skull White.

Using the foundation paints keeps the colour quite matt and makes the marines look more like a wargames figure than a toy. Plus it goes on really easily. The bone looks a bit plain compared to the green I know but once I get to more complex stuff like terminators or the dread it will look good.

    Re: Angels of Redemption

    Slow progress as usual

The squad is getting there now. Generally everything that needs to be green is green and everything that needs to be bone is bone.

A small close up of whats going on

Finally the squad has a sarge. He is still in his bath robe, so he is bound not to be too happy about the commotion. I think the robe is going to be Calthan brown washed either with Devlan Magic, or Badab black or both. Sounds like a plan?

    Oh well exitus acto probat.

    Hey Static Grass

Well i should start with the first thing that caught my eye... and that is... what a cool Warseer name... Static Grass is awesome... congrats on getting that one!!!

    Re your Angels however...

Awesome doesnt do them justice. The paint job, all be it in its initial stages is incredible. I like the fact you have gone for more than just DA... and a successor chapter is always cooler in my book (there was a really nice sons of guilleman army on here somewhere)

The painting is crisp and well carried out. The green well applied, and the white, incredible considering how hard it is to get white actually to look good these days... (infact i find keeping a pot of white just white these days a mission)

Im really looking forward to seeing how this one pans out.

You keep it going and ill keep my eyes peeled.

"Your bone looks real smooth" ha I'm almost 30 and that still cracks me up... so immature.

Anyway, I'm liking the paint job alot, usually not much of a fan of multiple color ways but this one's giving me a greater appreciation . Can't wait to see how your vets robe comes out after a wash of devlan mud. I have a bunch of vets ready for this same treatment.

    Re: Angels of Redemption

Thanks for all the comments guys.

Static Grass is a good name but you should see it in french... "Herbe Statique" I love it in a kind of "what do they call a Big Mac?" way.

Some of the successor chapters have great colour schemes. The BA in particular have a lot of amazing ones. Sons of Sanginius (spelling) are amazing. I think halved schemes are so rare on the table that most people are quite sceptical initially however once you get your head around the halved colour scheme you see how awesome they look. One guy with the halved scheme can look a bit comical but as a squad they look really coherent - it looks like heraldry.

I happy with the green and the white and especially they are painted in quite a different way. I try to avoid mixing paints as it is a really paint to remember the amounts.

I think that the foundation paints are the best release GW have done for some time. At least GW have looked at the idea that people want prepainted minis and have gone for this instead. Deneb stone is excellent and although I only go to pure white on the hightlights it still looks clean.

For the highlights I am now using a Newton(?) and Windsor 0000. It is the only thing I can use get narrow sharp highlights. Some of the figures are not that well highlighted but I think I have it sorted now.

Before starting I spent alot of time looking at spikeyjames log to see what he actually does when painting. Checking what is actually highlighted and how much.

I will saving sammy until the end. A reward for painting those bikers.

I am glad you like the smooth bone. Don't worry there will be lots of opportunity for smooth bone jokes.

As for the robes I think a dark brown colour will tie the green and bone together and give them that monastic look. Rather than the bath robe look.

    Herbe Statique...

I could agree with you more... so many people do there robes in the pale white or bone colour, and i think a dark brown is a better judgement call, especially as your using the bone/white on the armour already.

I can see you have done alot of reading into this before you jumped in... its nice to see it all so well planned out...

As for Winson and Newton Brushes.... i keep going back to them cos simply... no one else makes brushes like them!

I jumped into a project before and now I have 2000 points of home brew BA successors that are very much unloved.

Tonight I am going to try to do some PSUs. Oh the glamour.

Also if anyone knows where I can get glossy clear acrylic spray in Norway then let me know. I need it to follow the BoLS recipe for home made transfers. I don't have the stomach for all those chapter markings by hand.

    Re: Angels of Redemption

Alright, slow progress as per usual. The main excuse is the epic consumption of alcohol.

I have finished the PSUs for the marines.

I am now finishing off the armour on the few guys that have not been totally finished.

I have also tested red bolter covers for my marines

I think they look good. it needs to be neated and finished but I wanted to see how the red looked. I had just read Lion el Jasons thread on the dreaded christmas marine syndrome. So I wanted to see how my guys shape up. I think the red looks fine, I don't hear jingle bells when I see them so I think they pass.

I think the reason for this is that the green is pretty desaturated and the white is actually bone with a bit of brown. I planned these colours to be like that to avoid this problem.

    I hope you enjoy.

    Re: Angels of Redemption

Thanks for the comments. Like most of the second founding chapters we are sadly neglected.

The robes are going to be scorched brown, with a black wash. If the bolter casings are going to be red then I will paint any loin cloths black, they were going to be red. But that would be to much now that the bolters are red.

Sammy is going to be cool. At the moment my plan is to paint the big bird at the front bronze.
