    Firestorm's Chaos Odyssee - 40k and Epic

Hello, this is my first venture in to project logging on Warseer for a while, but after sharing my efforts on The Ammobunker, Bolter & Chainsword and Tactical Command, I thought I would share some pics here incase anyone missed them elsewhere.

To start with, here's my burgeoning 40k Chaos Marine army, which I have dubbed The Legion of Taurus:

At present I have painted a 400 point Combat Patrol, but I intend to continue collecting this army to about 2,500-3,000 points, then add some Apocalypse formations.

My plan to get there will be to gradually add units to take the army to 1,500, then 1,750, then 2,000... you get the picture!

To that end, I've recently made an HQ unit - Varcosian Avatar of Tauran Unleashed (he's not the army's commander, but one of several characters for it):

    Then I made some Terminators:

    And some bikes:

I also made some more Marines to take the first two squads to 10-strong.

So that's 40k; but this log is also about EPIC, and I've only got 8 Epic Chaos armies...

Re: Firestorm's Chaos Odyssee - 40k and Epic

My first Epic Chaos army was this Iron Warriors - pretty much finished, though over on Tac Command they've been experimenting with adding a new anti-aircraft tank to the Chaos list, so I may well succum to the temptation to build some and add to this army!

I've also put together a relatively small Lost and the Damned force, including Exodus Wars Guild Centuria miniatures filling in as Traitor Guards, and lots of Daemons:

I'm not done with this army, after this Greater Daemon and scratch-built Chaos Altar I'm adding a mob of Mutants and some converted Hydras to it.

I built these as allies to an Emperor's Children army I made, here's one of the formations:

But before I get round to painting this army, I'm going to be making this one: World Eaters...

So here's a formation, with Lord, Icon and Converted Champion:

Next, with converted Commander and another Champion conversion:

The Rhinos for one of these formations:

Chosen Formation, including Daemon Prince (a rare Chaos familiar miniature I picked up on the ol' fleabay last week):

    Juggernauts (will count as Bikers):

The first half of a World Eaters armour formation (still converting the others):

And some Daemons - primed ready for painting; firstly, Bloodletters:

And Flesh Hounds (count as Daemonic Beasts):

So these are what I'm starting to paint now.

Re: Firestorm's Chaos Odyssee - 40k and Epic

These will join a Bloodthirster, which was painted for last year's EpiComp on Tactical Command:

That's not all for Epic Chaos, I intend to do a Death Guard army - here's my first test stand for Plague Marines:

As well as these, I'll do a Khornate-flavoured L&tD army, the Legion of Taurus in Epic, and a Thousand Sons.

So, in all, enough stuff to keep me busy for a little while, perhaps

More pics soon, thanks for looking!

    Ooh very nice and chaotic!

I like the variation of things you have going on here. Great work on the CSM character and your Epic too. Can we get some close-ups of your Combat Patrol?

I'm doing Epic Chaos too so I'll be watching closely

I love the "spinesect", that's just a creepy monster! Can't wait to see all your epic chaos stuff together though, once you've finished your several Chaos armies you should really put them together. Kind of similar to what Warhamster Nice over at Tactical Wargames did with his Imperial armies!

Re: Firestorm's Chaos Odyssee - 40k and Epic

Thanks all for your kind comments!

Cheers Malika, yeah I'd love to do some kind of mass battle-report with all of my armies versus 24,000 points worth of Imperial Armies, and put it in Firebase... nice!

Well, I had hoped by now that I would have primed all my wip Chaos Marines and the Epic World Eaters stuff I've done, but the weather has been typically English (i.e. p*** wet through!), not good for going out to spray miniatures...

So, rather than sit waiting for the clouds to part, I made a start on the next unit for the Legion of Taurus - a Predator. Now, because I clearly have some kind of masochistic tendency - or that I'm just completely obsessive, I decided not to use the standard tracks on that come with the Pred - they've got Imperial Aquila shapes, and this tank ain't Imperial! The effect I'm going for was inspired by Elotsip's phoenomenal Chaos Militia tscratch-built tanks, and looks like the tracks on my Rhino - here's a pic of it whilst I was painting it to illustrate:

So tonight was spent cutting lots of plasticard for a Pred, and for a Vindicator (the next tank for this army). This is a pretty tedious job as you can probably imagine, this is as far as I got with the Pred:

Aside from this, I intend that this Pred will have interchangable weapons - so I've been cracking out the tiny magnets!

So, seeing as rain has stopped play on the painting, I'm thinking of finishing this Pred, then going straight to the Vindicator and another squad of Marines to get this army to 1,500 points. But, then again, I worry if I'm just procrastinating on the whole painting thing... *shudders*

Wow! All that stuff is gorgeous, but forgive me for loving that Epic Chaos stuff the most! Lovely conversions as well as some plain ol' quality miniatures.

I might have a go at Epic Chaos once I've finished about 4000 points of Guard [not too tricky when you've a Warlord Titan on the way!], although all that seems to readilly available is the plastic sprue from Specialist Games.

Was all your stuff off t'Bay? Those Juggernauts in particular are brilliant.

Cheers Moronghul! Some stuff was off of eBay; like the bulk of the Iron Warriors force, as I put that together almost 2 years before the Epic Chaos stuff was re-released by GW! But I've been buying random lots of assorted epic miniatures for over 3 years, so in that time I've built quite an eclectic collection, perfect for the ridiculous number of Epic armies I'm working on..!

I paint indoors, but I spray all my miniatures outside - and it's not a good idea sprayin paint when it's raining!

Go ahead, LokkoRex - I always say that all my best ideas are someone else's..!

Well, the last couple of evenings I've carried on working on the Predator, cutting lots and lots of plasticard bits to finish the tracks (completed tonight); also I've been working on the magnetised weapons. WIP piccy:

I realised as I was doing this that the rear of the main turret has the ammo/charge for the weapons, and because I must be totally mad I decided that having an Autocannon with Lascannon cells on the back just wouldn't do..! So I magnetised those, too:

Here's a pic of the Autocannon one.

I started work on the sponsons tonight; I knew these would prove more of a challenge. I've seen someone else's magnetised Pred, and they did the sponsons by actually buying to sets of sponsons and magnetising the whole bit that connects to the chassis of the tank; I couldn't afford to do this, so I had to come up with another solution: firstly, I cut the pegs off from either side of the bottom of the mount, and on one side stuck a magnet:

Then, inside the actual weapon, I glued a magnet that would be on the otherside of the bottom of mount, and would 'stick' to the other magnet through the mount.

As you can probably see, I had to cut back the guiding hole where the pegs on the bottom of the mount would normally go; I also had to cut a section on the top of the other half of the weapon, to allow space for the magnet on the bottom of the mount - otherwise the weapon would be stuck, which would defeat the whole object..!

Tomorrow I'll get on and finish the other sponson, then I when I've finished making that I might will start on a Vindicator... yep, I think I'm definitely procrastinating on the painting front!

    Thanks very much, mcewan!

I finished magnetising the weapons last night:

Now there's just some detailing to do, like adding spikey stuff and green stuff to tidy up the Legion symbols.

More pics when that's done, thanks for looking!

Re: Firestorm's Chaos Odyssee - 40k and Epic

    Cheers Fire Harte!

The other night I added some more details, including some sculpting to tidy up the Legion's iconography on the tank.

Now I just need to swap the tip of the Lascannons, Bolters, etc for the Chaos ones. Updates will be a bit sparse for the rest of the week now; I've had to tidy my workspace away to make room for the house-full of guests we've got staying for my wedding this weekend.

I also need to get a new table to work on, as when we moved the one I was using we noticed two of the legs had buckled at the end, making it pretty much useless - so I'm trawling through the local free ads for one at the mo...

Anyway, when I'm back in action I'll be finishing off the Predator, starting on the Vindicator - and who knows, perhaps even painting some of those Epic World Eaters..! Thanks for looking!
