Re: A 40k project log (Easternheretic's Peach Blossom Isle)

    Greetings Putty old chap!

I actually enjoy hacking away at the metal models so no patience required! I get more kick out of converting and modeling then painting.

The model was done in about 5 hours including a time off while i waited for GS round one to dry before i pinned and GS round 2!

I will post painted pictures soon. All that is left is the base actually!

    Cheers.

Awesome repose, motion-wise....because the left is back try throwing the right arm out forward. It would make it look alittle more dynamic and natural.

Greeting kiwichild I see what you mean. Arggghh I would repose it, but I've already slapped paint on the model! All thats left is the base!

Perhaps, I'll reposition the arm when I've got more time.

As it is, I'm rushing to get as many of my sundry nid models that I have about the house painted! All to field in an upcoming apoc battle!

Here are pics of the painted brood lord and the SH broodlord thrown in for comparison. As usual I need to base the models with sand and static grass for it to be complete. I guess my mom was right about me. Got head, no tail. (An old chinese saying translated of course)

    Cheers

Compared to the SH sculpt, the normal broodlord sculpt is still inferior, but I think you've done a good job re-posing him. You've made an uninteresting looking model look more menacing!

Wonderful job on the Eldar - I really love their clean colour scheme.

Dezmord, one can't argue with you there! The SH broodlord is SO MUCH BETTER then the old one. I'm glad you like the repose. Since I already bought the model when it was first released, I figured I owe to myself to get it on the field without the "Platoon" pose!

Cheers Stugmeister! Glad you like it. I'll be getting back to the eldar soon. Once the apoc game is out of the way that is.

Wow, really liking that broodlord repose! I used to have a nid army this colour (right down to the bright green bits), although yours is done a fair bit better than mine was! Can't wait to see them based, they'll look awesome, especially if the bases are as cool as the ones on your eldar.

Cheers stompy, I don't surpose you still have that army and have pictures as well? It will be incredibly surreal to see another nid army in the same colours!

Unforunantely the bases on my nids are pretty pedestrain at best. Just sand and static grass. May be a rock or two for variety.

Been toying with the idea of mushrooms, tyranid flora and even flowers. Saw a tutorial on the web and have been dying to try it.

Flowers would look really nice, sort of a contrast to the alien weirdness. And I don't have my nid army any more, I sold it about a month ago. I do have a few pics though. You'll have to excuse the poor quality of painting, I had this army when I was a kid

good job with the broodlord. its much better than the OMGLOOKATMYAWESOMENESS! pose of the original broodlord.

i have been wanting to bash up a broodlord of my own using the current genestealer body as a base... i'm using the picture of the broodlord in the current codex as a reference because i dig that one so much.

i'll probably work on it in december... that one requires me to gs some stuff over the model's body and head. alot of work needs to be done on the arms too...

    wish me luck!

They're looking quite beastly, nice and quick work there! Liking the color scheme, too. And vintage for teh WIN!

Been meaning to check this one too, but as the title says nothing about Nids I've always ignored it (thus far)...

But am I doing here, I should be working on my plog! Alas, your wait is soon to be released, as I have painted two miniatures ready to go, and more are to follow.. Hopefully I can get something done, and not succumb to other projects (that's what happened last time)

    Cheers, keep it up!

They really are identical arn't they! Thanks for sharing stompy! This really made my day!

I'm experimenting with the technique I found on the web for flowers right now, but am not satisfied with the outcome so far. It's quite a nightmare attaching small paper petals to a paper clip or small nail. Its driving me nuts to be honest!

Link for tutorial I found on the web here!

Cheers Goat of Yuggoth! Glad you've stumbled on my plog! Unfortunetly I believe we can't changes the names of our plogs so I'm sort of stuck with the title I first came up with.

It's a an obscure reference in regards to my forum name and his home, taken from a chinese martial arts novel character. Even then, it really doesn't say much about the content. I guess that's advertsing and marketing fail on my part!

Your about the first person who rates the vintage over the SH broodlord! Cheers mate! I'm rather fond of it because of the effort put in and all that!

    Cheers!

Oh I have SH for myself, so I can keep admiring it on my own time.. And there's not much of those vintage ones around, always a pleasure seeing them.

As for the title, well.. You could ask an admin, or then just start a new one and merge it to this one (not sure if you could do that on your own tho)

    Kung-fu for the win!

Hows the female farseer going? She looks awesome, the fire loop around her is sweet.

Hi the-skylord, she's still a WIP, I haven't been painting my eldar in a while.

Gone bug mad at the moment, with Space Hulk being released and an apoc game looming in the near future where I want to field my nids. I'm currently painting 22 genestealers for said game.

Don't worry though, I will be back painting eldar soon, and she's first on the list. The last update is where she's still at.

    Thanks for stopping by!

    Cheers!

Thanks Malditoduende. The avatar conversion was one of my first real attempts to radically change the look and pose of an existing mini. I'm rather fond of it actually.

My only real complaint, is that it is so small compared to some of the newer models out there especially the forge world demons my gaming buddy sometimes fields during our apoc games.

Perhaps I'll buy one of those forge world avatars and convert it, or even try my hand ant sculpting one from scratch!

Time will tell. Anyway, thanks for the support!

    Cheers

Re: A 40k project log (Easternheretic's Peach Blossom Isle)

A quick update on a rather unproductive 2 weeks painting wise.

I've finished 20 SH genestealers including the scenic bases. All that is left is sand and static grass as usual.

12 more SH genestealers to go!

I must say, that I felt like ! spent more time painting the bases then the genestealers themselves. I haven't painted space marines in ages, and it felt like it took forever. Anyway, pictures!

    As usual, C&C welcome! Cheers!

Nice do on them stealers. I might add a slightly more shock highltght to their eyes, but that's just me..

Anyways, have you noticed that certain stealers (the ones that stand on a marine and the ones that have skulls under them) are missing an arm? I'm just pretty considered if it's just the ones I own, or is it a common flaw?

Re: A 40k project log (Easternheretic's Peach Blossom Isle)

Cheers Goat of Yuggoth! And yes, the sychronised swimming stealers on the termie armor and pile of skulls are missing an arm.

I spent a good 5 minutes turning the model over in my hand again and again looking for the other hand to paint the claws before it dawned on me that it was missing said hand and attaching arm as well. Felt foolish that it took me so long to realise!

How would you shock highlight the eyes? I'm using blood red for the eyes aalready. Is there a brighter red?

    Cheers!
