Cheers Goat of Yuggoth, A little trimming of the feathers on the arrows and some GS on whats left to shape a handle, and it would pass as a very big stick bomb.

I intend to do a crazy idea with a bonesword, as I have a certain need for an Alpha with CC capability. I'll make a two-handed (or, in his case, four-handed!) Bonesword! We'll see how he turns out...

Meanwhile, you won't mind me leeching all the inspiration from here, will you?
Yup, shaving the bio-weapons was the fastest way to get boneswords. I got good mileage out of my big metal file that is used on metal work to shave those plastic bio weapons double time.

Another plus, is that with some careful cutting and gluing, while keeping parts of the death-spitters, barbed stranglers and venom cannons intact, you can get some nice looking hilts for the boneswords as well.

Leech away, that's what these project logs are for after all IMHO.

    Cheers!

Re: A 40k project log (Easternheretic's Peach Blossom Isle)

Salutations one and all. I have some updates for work done in the past week to share.

Once again, I've done some minor commission work for Raeho this week. He gave me an assortment of metal marines that he wanted me to either decapitate so he can use the heads else where, or to hollow out the metal shoulder pads so that he can use them elsewhere. Ive included a before and after picture below. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a before photo of the tech-marine. For future updates on how he uses the parts, you'll have to check out his plog. Link can be found below in my signature.

I've also started on a Ork warboss in mega armor conversion for myself, to make my small ork collection legal in terms of game play. I do not have an HQ unit at the moment.

While rummaging through my collection of minis, I stumbled on an Orc standard bearer which I got during my aborted attempt at WHFB. It is a lot bigger than the standard Ork boys I was painting, and I decided to use him as the base for the War Boss. I recently stumbled on to this plog right here on Warseer by Synapse, where he shared some amazing scratch build meganobz and mega armor Ork Boss. Link to above-mentioned thread here. Take a look. Well worth the time! I'm using them as inspiration and guide,on my own attempts at a Mega Armored War Boss. If all things go well, I'll probably make a Meganob squad as well, after all, Bad Moon Orks are surpose to have the most bling!. Pictures below to see the progress I've made.

And finally, I've taken on a rather large commission for my friend with the red nids you occasionally find on my plog. The picture below should explain clear then words! An AoBR space marine captain is included in the picture for scale purposes.

I'll be using this big beast of a model as the base. The 2 smaller pictures is for reference and the direction I'll be taking. Stay tuned, as I will be posting updates on its progress.

As usual, C&C is appreciated & welcome.

    Cheers!

Re: A 40k project log (Easternheretic's Peach Blossom Isle)

I apologise for the lack of updates these past few weeks. Dragon Age 2 and a much needed holiday got in the way.

Anyway, I've completed my Mega armour warboss, and have started the dominatrix conversion I'm doing for a friend.

I apologise about the crappy photos pf the warboss. these photos were taken using my phones camera, and they are the only unpainted ones I have of the completed model. I of course have started painting it.

The dominatrix is in the very early stages. I need to get a LOT more epoxy putty, as the ones I had on hand did not get me very far. I guess I'll be raiding the local hardware store for more plumbing putty.

    Cheers.

Yup. I'll be converting the head. I'm aiming to have the beast look more like the drawn picture at the bottom right hand corner.

I've have already started the process by removing most of the alien queen crest. I don't know what material these McFarlene toys are made of, but it sure was hard work sawing it off!

    Thanks for stopping by!

    Cheers.

Seems like the the Dominatrix is shaping up nicely. Which rules will your friend use for it? The Hierophants'?

I think there are fan made rules on Bell of lost souls on their Lords of Battle stuff.

Nope, he won't be using the Hierophant rules. That is what his hierophant will be using!

Since most of our apoc games are within a small group of friends, we allow outside fan dexes. And, theconverter15 is spot on. The last time we used it in a game (the original alien queen running amok on the table), we used the BOLS Lords of Battle rules. The smaller picture to the bottom right (with a drawing of a dominatrix) of my starting dominatrix post has some fan made rules as well, so we might be trying that out the next time we have a large apoc game.

This friend managed to get his hands on another alien queen and decided he wanted a dominatrix proper!

    Cheers.

Re: A 40k project log (Easternheretic's Peach Blossom Isle)

Updates on the Dominatrix commission. In the process, I've wiped out the entire stock of plumbing putty from my local hardware shop and earning a look from the cashier!

A picture is included of the backing board of the putty for those who are curious, unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo of it with the actual putty still attached.

Most of the bulking up work is completed on the model, and i will be switching to greenstuff to start work on the detailed work. Armoured carapace will be sculpted at the shins, top of thighs, tail, head and the back. The ribbing on the chest will be done in greenstuff. Smoke stacks, and of course 2 sets of scything talons will be added as well.

I'll also need to find a suitable item to use as the base for the bio cannon which is missing at the moment.

Anyway, pictures are below. A lot more work is needed, but I'm happy with how it is turning out.

    As always, C&C is welcome.

    Cheers!

Re: A 40k project log (Easternheretic's Peach Blossom Isle)

I have some updates on the Dominatrix conversion I am working on.

I have added some details on using greenstuff to cover the gray plumbing putty used earlier for bulking up.

Most of the details I have been working on is carapace work over the various areas that require it. Since it is such a big model, the usual smooth carapace pieces would not look good at all. After a bit of trial and error, in an attempt to make it look like the forge world carapaces you find on the 4 Hs of the nid line and failing miserably, I settled for a similar but not identical look of mild grooves and holes to give the large surface area for each segment, more details.

I've also added the ribbing that you find underside of the torso, that alll nids seem to have.

And I've also started on the bio cannon that is mounted on the back of the dominatrix. I used an old cough syrup bottle as the base, and will be adding some plumbing putty to get the rough details and bulk up work, before switching to greenstuff.

So a quick scan on what needs to be done before I am finished with this project. I still need to add more detailed carapace to the thighs, the tail end of the tail and the back and bio cannon. Details for the biocannon need to be done as well. I have yet to start work on the smoke stacks, and the 2 pairs of scything talons. And finally, I also need to work on an egg sac under the tail. It seems that one of the experimental rules, my friend was trying out has rules for the dominatrix to be able to spawn more nids just like the terivigon.

For those who are interested in working more with greenstuff, I highly recommend getting some "Clay Shaper's". These look a bit like paint brushes except where you usually find bristles, you get a soft rubber silicon head in various shapes. What are clay shapers? Click here to find out!

I would not have been able to achieve the effect that I went for and the details if I did not have these tools. The usual metal sculpting tool that I usually use are just too sharp and hard.

For those interested, I got my set of Clay Shapers at Heresy Miniatures.

On a final note, I have learned that vaseline trumps water every time, when it comes to smoothing out green stuff. From now on, when I am working with green stuff, I dab a small blob of vaseline on the top surface of my left hand for easy access to lube up my tools.

    As always, C&C is welcome!

    Cheers!

Wow it's coming along great, can't wait to see it done, though it's not like I need any more biocannons pointed in my direction

    I actually feel you man.

Even though I'm usually part of the op-force, in our usual apoc games, but the thought of Nick's Harridan, Hierodule and Hierophant, and now a Dominatrix to boot hitting you with X number of S10 shoots can't be fun.

Perhaps the next game we have, I can join your side with my eldar instead and take pot shots at him with some pulsars?

    Cheers!

That beast is shaping up nicely. Good to see that you've managed the tyranidification of that formerly ugly model.

Thanks! I hope the following pictures meet with your approval as well.

Hopefully my friend can get it painted up int he next couple of weeks, and I can post pictures of the completed model.

As always, C&C is much appreciated!

Thanks guys! That really made my day.

Well if you can find a spare McFarlene Alien Queen, I wouldn't mind giving it another go. Should be a lot faster too! I feel my GS Fu has improved.

Re: A 40k project log (Easternheretic's Peach Blossom Isle)

    Updates!

I've got pics of the Dominatrix painted from my friend who I did the commission for. The final pic had it displayed with various nids from his Hive Fleet including a Hive Tyrant with his posse of Tyrant Guard, Malenthrope, Pyrovore and an Elysian Guardsmen who wishes he never got out of bed that day!

I know I made this model for my friend, but even I did realise how d*mn big it is. It always looked smaller then it really is , when I was sculpting on it. Strange.

    Enjoy!
