Re: A 40k project log (Easternheretic's Peach Blossom Isle)

Updates for my Eldar army. A post of "finally".

I've FINALLY finished the 10 Wraithguard as seen in an earlier post. It took for some odd and annoying reason, a VERY long time to complete. (Read 4 months) All I can say, is that I'm very pleased that they are finally done, and it will be a LONG time before I want to paint anymore of them. Unfortunately I do still have 5 more to go.

To continue my one off theme of "finally"...

I've FINALLY finished painting the various power swords that are in my current crop of painted Eldar models as well. For the longest time, I've been putting it off as I just couldn't get the effect I was going for as my painting skills were just not up to scratch. That is until i stumbled on this youtube tutorial. Hurrah for the internet I say.

So with new technique in hand, I put paint to sword, and banged out the power swords for my 9 painted Howling Banshees, thus completing their paint job. I painted the Dire sword of my Dire Avenger Exarch as well. Plus the 2 swords on the old school rangers that for some odd reason had them on the model, but no in the rules anymore. I have to assume, that it must be a 2nd Edition thing, as I've been playing 40K since the 3rd.

This ties in to my last finally, which is I've finally finished the 10 Eldar Rangers that I've been painting by putting the final finishing touches on them as well. Which obviously is the above-mentioned swords.

    Pictures below.

As always, C&C is welcome and appreciated.

    Cheers!

Holy crap! How did I miss that tyranid megasupermonster?! Very impressive work. All of it: the idea, the scuplting and the painting. Lavly!

And your eldar is very nice too. I hope to one day have a full squad of well painted figs...

Hi xedric, thank you for the kind words. I really enjoyed working on the Dominatrix and am glad that you and the rest who've popped in enjoy it as well!

As for a full squad of well painted figs, I too hope to have one as well! I've figured that by plugging away, I'll get a squad of painted figs, and by plugging away at it some more, I will eventually get on that is well painted!

At the moment, its a few nicely painted minis in a squad, and the rest get a bit sloppy .

AH well, live and learn as my dad use to tell me.

    Your comments are much appreciated!

Hey Dezzo, all thanks to you man. That technique you suggested at the store makes painting them faster, hence I can paint more of them. And since I tend to assume every little bump on an eldar fig is a gem, I have a lot to paint!

    Cheers!

Re: A 40k project log (Easternheretic's Peach Blossom Isle)

Updates on my eldar army after PC nightmares . I must remember to have proper backups.

I've finally finished my female farseer from way back. I was never quite satisfied with the head I had made from the plastic guardian sprue, and decided to change it the the dark elf sorceress.

So after a bit of hacking with a saw, some snipping with a pair of pliers, some careful grinding with my trusty dremel, and some GS for the hair and a soulstone, I completed the new head.

Unfortunately, it was only during painting that I noticed that I have ground of too much cheekbone form the left side of the face. Off course by then, I was painting, and decided not to try to fix it, and live with what I had.

    Anyway a pics below.

I'm including a shot of my eldar army (fully painted minis) as it currently stands just for fun.

Re: A 40k project log (Easternheretic's Peach Blossom Isle)

Like a lot of people who are from my neck of the woods have been bitten by the Malifaux bug, I am no exception.

I contemplated starting a new thread, but since I'm some what of an impatient git, and didn't want to start a new thread and end up waiting for mod approval, I've decided to put all my eggs in a single basket so to speak, and display my crew here. I'll probably ask the mods to move the thread, since I foresee painting more Malifaux crews in the future.

Pictures of my Lilith crew as it stands. Almost completed painting. I thought they were done, but during editing of the picture size, I noticed that a lot of the yes I've painted are a bit sloppy, and will be going back to do some touch up.

I'm currently working on Lelu at the moment and will be adding Lilitu and Nekima to the crew before moving on to a different crew. I know that Lelu and Lilitu work as a pair, but my LGS did not have here in stock.

    Anyway, pictures!

I've been painting a Lelu model for the Tale of Skirmish Game Painters 2011 right here on warseer.

Until my LGS gets a new shipment of Liltu's or Nekima's, it's back to painting 40K models.

Re: A 40k project log (Easternheretic's Peach Blossom Isle)

Some minor updates on what is currently on my painting table at the moment.

Yup, more Malifaux. I expanded on my Lilith crew by getting a depserate Mercenary, Nekima the Dark Sibling and a Lilitu to pair with the Lelu model I had.

I've also decided to redo the skin tone of my Lilith model as I was unsatisfied with the first attempt. A little thinner and a lot of gentle scrapping with a knife later and I had a model that reminded me of Destro from GI Joe. To be honest, it was too much effort to remove just the skin paint. I should have just stripped the whole thing and repaint. Oh well what's done is done.

Another model that resulted in the use of A LOT OF EFFORT was assembling the Nekima model. It is a very fragile model.

Previous owners have had problems with the model bending at the ankle area due to a general lack of metal to support the top heavy model. So some very careful drilling was required to pin the model. Naturally I messed up and resulted in the drill bit coming out at an obtuse angle at the ankle and almost wrecked the model. Some careful bending an realigning of the ankle allowed me to pin the model to the rock it stands on and some GS to fill the hole.

Lining up the arms so that the model can hold the sword was also time consuming and difficult. All in all, this is THE MOST difficult model I had to assemble, in my 15 odd years of making models and painting. Worth the effort, after I've had a rest that is!

Pictures are all WIP, and painted and finished pictures will be posted soon. All are almost done!

    Cheers.

Re: A 40k project log (Easternheretic's Peach Blossom Isle)

    More minor updates.

I've finished painting the 4 models appearing above, and will post them come October. I'm taking part in The Tale of Skirmish Game Painters 2011 and we're not to post completed models till the beginning of each month.

Anyway, I've also been working on a tech marine for a Raeho (See my siggy below for more info). It was a lot of working hollowing out the original tech marine head, to allow for a normal mark VII helmet to fit, as well as chopping the legs of but leaving the "belt buckle". Add on some chopped up plastic terminator greaves and feet along with GS paper clips, plastic rods and guitar wire, for some bionic legs! Picture below.

Unfortunately for 40K, I'm still very much in Malifaux mode at the moment, and have even started on a new crew: Pandora and her Legion of Sorrows. It's still Neverborn, but the vibe is totally different from the previous crew Lilith, Mother of Monsters. I've gotten my hands on a Pandora starter box set, Alternate sculpt Pandora, Avatar Pandora, and a NE (Nightmare edition) Teddy.

I've made a very minor conversion to the NE teddy. I wanted the model to be holding on to the alternate head that came with the model. I repositioned the arm, some GS work to fill in the gap, and some GS sculpting to add a neck with torn flesh for the alternate head . As for the screaming fat kid that comes with the model as well, I intend to convert him in to the dreamer, which as you can safely guess, to be yet another model for another crew in Malifaux. Pictures below.

I wonder if I should get one of the mods to rename and move my thread to a more appropriate location, as I foresee that the Malifaux obsession will continue. I've already got eyes on another crew, and I haven't even finish painting my 2nd crew.

    Anyway, C&C is always welcome.

    Cheers.

now that is one impressive-looking eldar army!

And the paintjob of the feathers of the little malifaux creature (the demented-looking Cupid) is great!

Thanks juicytomatoes, much appreciated. The problem with Eldar armies, is that the paint job has to be clean, and I am a sloppy painter which makes it a major pain to paint. As you can guess by now, I'm taking a break from painting them, as the white was driving me up the wall.

I'll probably get back to them real soon though as some friends are organizing a large 40K game with Eldar as one of the armies involved, and are looking for Eldar players to participate. May be the perfect reason to get some vehicles painted up!

As for the Malifaux Cherub, washes on a white base coat was the way to go for this effect. Once all the washes are dry, a drybrush of white was used to bring out the details. the a final wash of black painted along the crevices and contour of each feather was applied to give contrast so that the feathers will pop.

    Thanks for stopping by!

Right, a minor oversight there, rectified! Lilith first though.

I re-did the skin and face for my for my Lilith model as I was not happy with the previous attempt. While not a great improvement, at least I'm happier with how this attempt turned out. It's a lot less reddish pink then my first attempt. I'll probably retire the mini from gaming once the alternate Lilith is released and I can get myself a copy.

Nekima the Dark Sibling for Malifaux for my Lilith crew.

This is hands down the most fiddly model I had to assemble. After a friends recommendation and warning on how fragile the model is, I decided to pin the model extensively. There is a pin running the entire length of the leg and the metal scenic base insert. The wings are pinned, and the arms to the torso and to the sword as well. Even with the pin in the leg, the model was wobbly, as such, I bent the wings lower tips to touch the base to have more contact areas for support, and finally I used a sewer accessory tentacle to prop up the model at the knee for even more support.

    Cheers.

    Lilitu for my Lilith crew.

This was my first attempt at shear clothing (wet tee shirt effect) painting, and I am pleased with how it turned out. Once my second one comes in the mail, I probably paint her up with a white dress for a yin yang effect.

And last mini for the month is a desperate merc from the outcast faction, but I'm using her with my Lilith crew. I enjoyed painting the model, and learned to paint blonde hair. No yellows. Bleach bone and sepia wash for the win.

    Cheers!

The models pose was originally like that, but I think the bend in the neck may have been further exaggerated when I drop the model on the floor.

I did not realize it until you pointed it out. I guess its too late trying to bend it back. *sigh*

Anyway, I've got some updates. First up, more Malifaux stuff. I've painted my Nightmare edition teddy and 3 sorrows. All which I;ll be using in my Pandora crew.

I've also picked up a box of dread fleet with a friend, and I'll be painting up the Grand Alliance. I've started with the Dwarf Ironclad!

    As always C&C is welcome.

Re: A 40k project log (Easternheretic's Peach Blossom Isle)

I've also managed to work on some 40K stuff as well.

First up, my first attempt at Batch painting tanks! Here are the undersides of all the Eldar Gav tanks that I have in my collection at the moment.

6 previously shrink wrapped tanks, and the 2 wave serpents I have been putting on hold for far too long.

A long way to go before I'm done. And after that, the tops and the turrets.

I've also worked on this conversion for a friend. When he read about the Dagon Overlord in the Mark of the Xenos expansion for Deathwatch RPG, he just had to have it. For variety and atmosphere, he asked me to add some guards men to the base.

The description int he book had the Dagon overlord with 6 arms. A pair of talons, a pair of bone swords and a pair of devourers. I know it's not 40K legal, but it turned out a lot better than I thought it would, and would happily allow him to use it in a normal game!

    And base close ups!

    As always, C&C is welcome!

    That's what I thought.

Those genie-thingies look nice, allthough all that Malifaux-stuff isn't my taste. Mind you, it's not your painting - I just don't like the designs.

Ah, an ironclad Very nice! I'm also in the process of painting my Dreadfleet-ships (which steals some time from my other projects). How does painting the Dreadfleet-stuff work out for you? I think it's somehow more "fiddly".

No worries Dezmord, I have no illusions about my painting. I reakon my painting would probably get around a 5 or 6 on cool mini or not, and constructive criticism is always good, that a good painter like you hasn't said my stuff is crap is always good news!

I aim for 9s and 10s mind you, dreams would be dreams after all, BUT there is a massive gap with what is and what I like them to be. Just means alot ALOT more practice on my end!

I find that the masts on all the Dreadfleet ships very fiddly. I almost always break them trying to insert it in the holes on the deck. I've now gone and filed that little bit of plastic on the mast alot smaller then they have to be for easy insertion and just glue it into place.

Bringing the models around are also a major pain in the rear end for fear of breaking the fiddly mast.

    Cheers!
