Thread: A 40k project log (Easternheretic's Peach Blossom Isle)

Here's a tip for working decals on marine shoulder pads.

You'll want to use Micro sol and Micro set. You can get them at hobby towns, and some other hobby stores I imagine. Micro Sol helps soften the decal so it smooths out on the surface, then Micro Set, sets in in place, obviously. Works pretty well. They also help eliminate bubbles, apply them with a paint brush.

However it is still a very curved surface, I recommend using a sharp Xacto blade to cut lines in the decals. For ultra marines I'd cut it between the upper parts of the U, that should help it wrap around the shoulderpad quite well.

    Great looking Marines there.

You should have painted one group of them with Pink trimmings as a gag. (you know how i hate Space Marines)

Anyways see you on Saturday (Sunday?)

Thanks for the tip Firmlog. I will try and find them here in Singapore. I've actually did cut the upper part of the U as you have suggested. It helped a bit in getting the decal to set on the shoulder pad. The very first one that I applied did not have the cut, and was totally unable to adhere to the top part of the shoulder pad at all.

I actually did NOT know you hated the marine boys.

Had I but posted them earlier, I may have had enough time to change them as suggested. It would have been grand to poke fun at them.

I too have a certain amount of dislike for the Ultra marines. The holier than though fluff in the codex just seems to tick me off. (No offence meant to any Ultra marines players out there.)

Yup. I pop in on Saturday to have a quick look around. I be hanging around for the duration on Sunday. Apoc and all that jazz.

    Cheers

I always flip to the last few pages of any new Xenos codex to see if there any AP 2 / 3 weapons.

Why else am I so disappointed with the new Nid codex?

Well it has taken a while, but I've finally finished painting my Tyrannofex. It's painting was delayed by the need to paint the space marines and terrain in an earlier post.

I'm very pleased that I managed to finish it in time for the Apoc battle at Spore con. It would have been very annoying to have had the painting of the 30 marines result in the tyrannofex missing the game for lack of a paint job.

    Any here are some pics!

I've have also managed to use the tyrannofex in the SPORE Con Apoc battle over the weekend, and am semi pleased with its performance. One shot one kill and the blowing up of a Salamander land raider was nice, but spending the rest of the game doing nothing was not.

Ah well, those are the breaks in 40K.

    C & C welcome as usual!

Re: A 40k project log (Easternheretic's Peach Blossom Isle)

Thanks for stopping by Tokamak. The youtube video you linked was quite fascinating to watch, but I don't understand what is it you are trying to tell me. A little help? Thanks!

Anyway, I've finally managed to get painted pictures of the 2nd Doom of Malanti on my log. I had converted this model for a friend and he reminded me to post pictures here. So here is a pic of the Doom.

    As usual C & C is welcome.

I'm currently shifting my focus back on the Eldar in and effort to get them painted. They have been languishing in my closet for way too long.

As usual, I'm not completely satisfied with some of the models that I have, so I'm breaking out the tools to convert them.

The current models in question, are 2 forge world wave serpents I managed to buy from a chap quite some years ago. The problem I have with the serpents come from the fact that I have seen the epic serpents, and they have got me hooked on the extra fins that are attached to the front of the tank.

As such, I grabbed hold of some plasti card and am now attempting to convert them to look like the epic serpents.

Here is what I have so far. More detailed instructions to follow as I progress.

    Cheers!

Yay! At last, more Eldar work! This waveserpent should look interesting.

Seems like I forgot to comment on the Tyrannofex - he looks mighty fine! Good to see that your idea for him worked out.

Hopefully I can keep it up. Painting Eldar does not come easy to me, as I'm very sloppy in my brush work, and any minor mistakes are very glaring on them. Unlike the nids, where I can just write of the minor mistakes as organic.

Thanks. I'm actually thinking of doing another one soon, and am most likely going to follow your tyrannofex. The under slung jaw cannon on yours looks awesome!

    Thanks for stopping by.

Re: A 40k project log (Easternheretic's Peach Blossom Isle)

Greetings all, here is a quick update on the wave serpent conversion I've been working on.

I had purchased 3 forge-world wave serpents 2nd hand quite a while ago before the plastic kit was available, but never got around to painting them.

I have always thought that the epic version of the wave serpent with additional wings looked a lot cooler then the one offered by forge world (and the "new" GW plastic kit as well!) and wanted to try my hand at converting them.

The original attempt made a long time ago fell on the way side due to the wings looking way too bland without any details other than the plain smooth plastic card cut to shape.

It is only due to trawling the warseer project logs recently, when I stumbled on one of our members using scribbing templates to add details to his tanks that I found a solution to this "bland" problem!

Here are my efforts in that regards after I bought the appropriate templates on EBay.

I have 2 of them with the added on plastic card wings. The third one will have to wait, as I ran out of plastic card.

    As usual, C&C is welcome!

I admit I never liked epic wave serpent version and I hated conversion they did in WD years ago. Still your version of wave serpent looks beautiful. My only suggestion would be to make corners on the wings a little bit rounded as it would fit better with organic shape of the tank.

Also very interesting approach on your nids, especially doom. Very nice conversions.

nice side spoilers for the wave serpent.

i don't agree with making the wings rounded. it'll make it look like a piece of broccoli.

Re: A 40k project log (Easternheretic's Peach Blossom Isle)

Thanks for stopping by! Much appreciated.

I apologise for the lack of updates. In actual fact, I have been making some steady, but slow progress on the painting and modeling front. I just never got around to taking photos and posting them up.

Anyway, I have some painted Eldar to share as well as some tyranid conversions. One is a WIP, and the other is complete. I'll of course try and get painted pics once the owners have finished painting them.

First of, I've have some 2nd ed Dire Avengers and Howling Banshees completed less the power swords on the banshees and dire avenger exarch.
I actually want to give the crystal sword a try based on the tutorial published not long ago in an issue of White Dwarf, but for some strange reason, I just can't find that particular issue.

Next up is a Mawloc conversion I did for a friend. He wanted the Mawloc bursting out from the ground, so I had to hack the Mawloc into a few segments and reposition them to have the Mawloc bursting straight out as opposed to the original GW pose which has it hunching over and looking downwards.

The space wolf that is impaled on the tooth/tusk of the mawloc was designed to be removable, hence it is only seen in one picture. Both my friend and I are a bit worried that the added weight on the end might cause the model to warp. I guess he'll mount the space wolf only at the start of a game as a show piece as well as a wind up!

And finally, a quick WIP of another tyrannofex that I'm working on as a commission job.

As usual for me, I'm widening the torso to beef up the beast making it worthy of the 6 wounds as described in the codex!

    As always, C & C is welcome!

    Cheers!

I was getting worried and thought about calling you to see if you are doing ok.

The Eldar guys look sharp. You did them with your old method right?

Those eldar look great, as does the old school waveserpent. But i'm really impressed by that mawloc conversion especially, much more brutal then the stock model.

Yup they were done the old way. I can't be lugging the compressor and airbrush to Bernard's place now can I? Most of my paining is done over the Sunday period when we meet up for 40K shenanigans.

I'm using the airbrush for the vehicles though. Got to love the smooth gradients you get with it!

    Thanks sheep and cheers!

I hope my friend is pleased with the Mawloc, it was a damn shame though. I would have liked to have kept it!

Anyway, I have some quick updates on the Tyrannofex conversion commission that I am doing.

All that is left are the 3 spore stacks on the back. I have to wait for the GS to cure. Before final details for the stack are added.

I intend to have the rupture cannon go underneath and as part of the lower jaw of the Tyrannofex. I'm actually following the GW picture quite faithfully for this one.

The forward limbs will be the largest scything talons from the trygon set. They will be used to support the upper torso of sorts as it does look chest heavy.

I'm also going to be using the warrior sprue rending claws as a small set of limbs that will be embedded into the rupture cannon, to round off the 6 limb tyranid theme.

    As always, C&C is welcome.

    Cheers.

    Must be a Freudian Slip.

Looking forward to seeing how big the guns will be for the T-fex.
