So basically I'm looking for 2-4 other users willing to submit a Space Marine bike.

Well, that's the minimum squad requirements filled (still two places available, though, people!).

Now to work on a bike colour scheme...

    Re: Bike squadron volunteers

@GamezmasterZ: I'll do it here rather than by PM so that everyone is informed.

AFAIK, the squadron will not have an attack bike, and will be made up of a sergeant, special weapon and 1-3 normal bikers. If you want to submit an attack bike or suggest anything else (veteran sergeant rather than normal sergeant, for example), PM me or TWB.

    EDIT: See TWB's post below.

I might be able to submit a normal biker...

I can't afford much else. (Not looking for pity...)

But I will definately be sending in a bike with a SM on it.

    Conversions kept to a minimum?

As has been said in other threads, do what you like. As long as it's WYSIWYG and not utterly crazy, conversions are more than welcome. I will certainly be attempting to customize mine in some way.

EDIT: I'm signing off for the night. Any other questions will have to wait.

    Re: Bike squadron volunteers

The bike squadron may be allowed all normal option available to it in the Codex. Attack bikes 0-2 special weapons etc. As always Veteran sergeants are reserved for Guilders, normal sergeant is the choice otherwise.

A special note on attack bikes, It might be an idea for two people to donate half of the Attack Bike each, one supplying the bike and marine whils the other supplies the sidecar and his marine.

    Re: Bike squadron volunteers

Right. I'm going into Warhammer World tomorrow to get a bike. This is what I was thinking for the squad:

    Yorkie
    Sergeant with cc weapon
    blacksmith
    Normal biker or plasma gunner
    GamesmasterZ
    Normal biker or plasma gunner

    Is this okay TWB?

    Re: Bike squadron volunteers

Great, im off to buy a bike as soon as im given a day off work (monday probably!) Im going to submit just a standard bike, no special weapons/attack bike sidecars etc, as im not sure on the rules for mounting special weapons on SM bikes (Ive never played against or as SM before so have no idea whatsoever about their rules. I play CSM normally. I understand SM rules are different to the csm rules... csm meltas etc are mounted on the bike whereas SM's carry theirs in a hand. Whatever)

I have a conversion in mind, so, as to follow WYSIWYG, can I have the SM holding a chainsword in one hand and controlling the bike with the other?

And as for paint schemes I was thinking white bike with blue flame motif? What ya think? I didnt just want a plain white bike with a blue front mudguard! Are we going to have a uniform colour design throughout the squad or can we do our own designs (in the blue/white colour scheme chosen of course)

Is there going to be a biker squad logo as well as the 'w' logo on the bikes?

OK I think im done asking questions for now . Ill check back in tomorrow evening.

EDIT: Just read your last post yorkiebar. Ill have the plasmagun as long as you can tell me how its correctly mounted on the SM bike; ie on the front fairing or in the bikers hand,or either? OOO just had the next bright idea! If the plasma gun can be held in the SM's hand, id like to have the squads plasma gun please!!!

Probably not WYSIWYG, but then it's a fun community army, right?

Not my decision, I'm afraid. PM TWB.

I hope so, but PM TWB as above.

I don't have the new codex either, but I do know that the plasma gun is hand-held. AFAIK from TWB's post there can be two special weapons? Someone PM me with the options available please, or post them here.

    Re: Bike squadron volunteers

Rite, gona PM TWB in a few minutes to get answers to my q's but i feel like another spurt of typage.

My idea for my my conversion will be the bike sort of leaping off a curb (from the pavement to the road). The front wheel will be slightly raised so the bike looks like its taking off. The reason I wanted to know if the plasma gun is hand held is because I was going to have the rider possibly leaning over the side of the bike a bit and aiming down and to the right a bit. I want it to look as if hes firing at something as he flies through the air!

    Time to PM TWB now...

    Re: Bike squadron volunteers

    Ok, just checking in.
    A few thoughts.
Just one bike squadron in an entire Chapter seems a little silly so if the number of people interested in adding Bikers expands to fill 2 squads, we'll accomodate them. The Trait dissadvantages can be reflected in the armylists rather than the chapter itself.
I appologise in advance but I knocked together a VERY rough example of what I was thinking about for the bike colours (I'll leave it to Blacksmith to relay what I actually said though).
By all means equip the bikers with Plasmaguns, but both flamers and Meltaguns would better suit bikers.
All models have free reign over how they are modelled and posed but should fit within the ethos of 40K and particularly with the marines (no Cyber BMX ninja marines please) but a CSM bike (in this instance) would be fine (All diabolic sigils are to be removed, of course).

But I already bought my bike!

Meltaguns sound good, is that OK blacksmith? And TWB, I'd like to know what company we are part of.

EDIT: Nice simple city base is ready for painting. When it's done I'll post here to see if you guys like it for the squad. Obviously you can include stuff like road edges or cracked paving slabs if you want.

    The progress so far

    Re: Bike squadron volunteers

Ok heres the PM i sent to TWB and the answer I got...

First q: Can I/we put our own design on the bodywork of the bike (not the marine) in the blue and white colours or will it have to stick to solid bocks of blue or white. The reason I ask is because I wanted to do a blue flame motif over a white bike. Firstly because I think it would look cool and maybe flames symbolising warseer rising from portents ashes?

Second q: Will there be a bike squad logo as well as the warseer logo?

If these questions have been answered in other threads sorry for wasting your time and just link me to the relevant threads please.

Ill post the answers I get into the bike squad thread for us all to see aswell.

    Cheers

You'd have to agree the bike squadron colours with the rest of the squad but pretty much anything that sticks with the Warseers colours is fine by me (Personally I thought all white with the front wheel guard all blue, It'll reflect the colours of the Chapter well whilst allowing room for personalisation, like flames). I should point out that the Warseers make no mention of their former identity an wold not be making any phoenix type references, but fire and flames are a common enough motif for Space marines and always look cool on bikes .

With regards to a bike Squad badge, You are a group the same as any other and I'd encourage you to design a badge, it should be relatively simple and look good when shrunk down to fit the size of a marine's knee pad.

Any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.
    Thanks
TWB, da knocked together picture is ok!I am quite happy to use TWB's previously posted image of what the bikes should look loosely like. I will also post an image or two with a concept colour scheme or two as I imagined it. Ill post that in my next post. Have you started painting your bike yet yorkie?

@ Yorkiebar: Im quite happy to use a melta gun instead. Will have to root round the bitz box to see if I can find one. If not i'll convert one, that will be no problem.

So i guess that we're going with city bases. Im happy about that as I like modeling them and my vision for my bike required it to be mounted on a city/urban base. However, if the final decision on how we are going to base the army changes, i an always have him leaping off a rocky outcrop/solidified magma/ice formation etc etc.

As far as a logo for the bike squad I havent had any thoughts about that. I can always put the grey matter to work to come up with something though.

Ok time to work on a few quick concept drawings for the colour scheme. Ill post them some time in the next hour or so...

    Thats me done for now!

    Re: Bike squadron volunteers

ok here are the two concept pictures i have come up with. Picture 1 uses the paint layout that TWB wanted with flames over each section of the bike in the opposite colour(whiye flames over blue bike or blue flames over white bike)

Picture 2 is how i imagined the paintscheme looking. A whte bike with blue flames over the 4 major parts of the bikes bodywork.

As you can see the marine remains in the normal colours and layout.

What do you think. I personally don't mind which of the three featured paint schemes is used. I would prefer to use one of the flame designs but I think they both look as good as eachother. What one do you think we shoudl use? At the end of the day a squad with the same paint scheme will look much better than a mix of ideas.

I think I prefer Picture 2. It seems like it would work. As long as GamesmasterZ agrees, let's go for it.

Good. I always enjoy a nice barbequed steak.

EDIT: I think the trim around the various flame bits should be blue, same as the one around the shoulder pads.

EDIT EDIT: Once we've decided fully, one of us should paint and photograph a bike for the others to copy so that they are all similar enough.
