So I need some inspiration in finishing my current Imperial Guard armies and a project log is just the ticket!

There are two components to my planned desert themed army. The first is a drop troop contingent, the 13th Elysian. I have aproximately 2000 points of these guys in various state of paint, including 3 different paint schemes. They have a command squad, two partial platoons of troops, the full set of heavy weapons squads, meltagun and sniper special weapon squads, a veteran squad, and two squads of storm troops. Vehicle wise, there are a squad of drop sentinels, a squad of drop support sentinels, and a unit of sentry guns. They have a vulture, valkyrie and an aquila in the air support column.

Part two is the 7th Taros, a cadian based force which will be a catchall apocalypse type army with mechanized infantry, or more probably a Daemonhunters list to represent a rogue trader leading the troops back to their occupied homeland.

These are my Ogryns. In the background of the Taros campeign they mention a sizeable Ogryn minority used in the mines. I figure the Tarosians would bring these guys along to bonk some heads in their battles.

This is a my bonehead, he was my favorite model from the Apocalypse releases last year. If only he could get a power weapon. Here's hoping in the new codex...

These are some Kroot auxilliaries. I field them when I need to bulk out my guard force or when a scenerio dictates some natives coming along as guides. They also swing with my Tau from time to time.

Here is Angkor Prok my kroot shaper. He is probably the best kroot model to date. Of course that new collectors shaper will be cool when it becomes available.

looks awesome. The elysians are great looking, and it is nice to see Non-Caucasian models.
I personally do not like the idea of using Kroot merc's with guard. For some reason. It could work well for a guard army on the fringe though.

Very nice indeed. I approve mightily. C&C? Try being a little more selective with the highlights on the black. Everything else looks great, tho.

So here is a picture of the rear of my Ogryns. It has a much better view of their snazzy cammies. Basically anyone in my army who isn't an Elysian will be getting a version of this camo on their uniforms.This is a basic 3 color scheme with my standard 3 highlight system. It is all hocus pocus but it makes the camo look a little richer on the table top and doesn't take that much longer than other methods I have tried. I am currently splitting time between ten Elysians and converting a squad of Tarosian roughriders. Hopefully I will have some WIP shots of the roughriders for you tommorow.

Instead I present you my Vultures! First up my Aeronautica vulture, the trial kit for my full size. I have shamelessly copied the rather snazzy current Isreali 4 tone camo scheme for all my flyers. It looks sharp and is relatively easy to replicate out of the bottle using model master acrylics. a quick oil wash later and some decals later and presto a vulture.

On the full size vulture we have Charisma Carpenter in an American flag, if I was a real man I would repaint the flag with an imperial eagle, but I'm just not up to that, so we are all just going to live with things as is, ok? The full size needs a couple more decals and some work on the canopies, they are a bit out of wack, but this is wip land so they look ok for where we are currently.

Anyhoo that is my stuff for this week. C&c is welcome and in fact desired guys, thanks!

Those Elysians look very good....the dessert colours suit very much the models...

Looking forward to seeing more infantry!

@Dictator; thanks, it is fun to do alternate skintones. I field the kroot for two reasons, one, I think they are fun models to paint and two in my Tarosian (aka Cadian) list the Guard are acting in service to a rogue trader who is "flexible" as to who does his killing and dying for the Emperor and the almighty credit. However in a non-narative situation I agree with you, most true guard regiments would never side with xenos scum.

@BC Raimo; the highlights on the black look funky on the computer screen but are less intense in real life. They are 50/50 codex grey and black with a final highlight of codex grey. Do you think I was excessive in the line highlighting or do you think I should tone them down with a black wash? Also the highlights look more blue on my screen than in my home, do you all see it that way too? The final highlight almost looks shadow grey to me on my screen now, wierd.

@Dio'Ra; nice to see you visit my log, I love your Krieg army. Don't worry I have more infantry on the way. If my boys are willing I should have ten troops done and maybe a junior HQ sometime next week.

I seem to have a fsacination with desert schemes just now so I'll add this to my subscriptions I think.

Looks very promising so far. Especially the Ogryns. They really suit the dark skin, it contrasts nicely with the pale fatigues and armour.

Your desert basing, is it just desert yellow and bleached bone?

@Catferret; Thanks, the ogryn were alot of fun, I'd like to do a second unit, but I am not convinced they would be worth it gamewise.

@LOTE Yep, the bases are simply desert yellow with a bleach bone drybrush. I throw on a piece or two of foam from Woodland Scenics and we're done. I'm thinking of adding in some lichen here and there as well to give a sort of tumbleweed look. BTW I've enjoyed your Vostroyan log for some time, it and a couple of other IG megablogs inspired me to start this one in fact!

Wow, this is sweet stuff here. I love how you AA Vulture's camo almost matches the full scale one exactly, its a nice touch.

So I was giving a friend some guff about not working on our Adepticon army when it occured to me I'm not working on mine either. So we will take a brief detour to finish some of my Alpha Legion. Here is my daemon prince. He is the standard prince with wings conversion with a twist. His heads and tail are from the 5th edition Dark Elf hydra which was a limited release at games day about 10 years ago. Cutting up that model hurt quite a bit. So I am finally slapping paint on this guy and here is the results. He is obviously wip but the bone color is close to finished everything else is still base coats at this stage. Lets have some C&C guys!

Ok, so to balance out the DP here is a wip of my Tarosian vets. Standard forgeworld bodies & heads from there vet upgrade. Still some detail painting to get to but I'm happy with how things are going so far. I really enjoy the forgeworld bodies, they mate up nicely with the cadian plastics, and the sculpting is beautiful as usual with FW. The heads I like in theory, but they feel a little narrow compared to the plastics. It does give me some extra variety though and I'm always for that. Also the backpacks rock. Really sells the figs imo. Anyhoo pics at the bottom, click 'em to biggerize them. C&C is always welcome guys.

My last update for the day is a Tarosian sniper. He is a fun little paint as is his brother in the blister. I don't know where I am going with the snipers yet, will they be a special weapons squad with 3 or will I proxy ratlings with a squad of ten of these guys? Anybody got opinions of snipers in the guard list currently? I haven't used ratlings since second edition but the new rules seem to make them more viable.
