    Re: Volkhov 4th Artillery

    EDIT:
THE SQUADS IN THIS POST HAVE SINCE BEEN REORGANIZED!

    Infantry Platoon

The platoon consists of two G/E (Guard/Escort) squads, whose role is to respond to ambushes, recon entrenchments for the artillery pieces etc. The main combat force of the regiment.

    Guard/Escort Section One

    Guard/Escort Section Two

These squads are supported by Golf Delta, a forward observation team. These are in effect like a platoon command. Their main "weapon" is their EOI, a highly advanced laser range finder, with which they call down AT shells from a basilisk a few kms away. Rules-wise, a lascannon.

    Golf Delta

    Mortar Squad

The other forward observation team, Hotel Delta, has been allocated a Mortar Section with which to destroy sighted enemies. The mortar section itself is deployed far away from the actual combat, but Hotel Delta is grouped in observation posts far closer to the fighting. In game, they work exactly like a mortar support squad:

As you can see, Hotel Delta is very much WIP!

    More photos on their way...

    Re: Volkhov 4th Artillery

    Sentinel Squadron

Part of the Recon Platoon, this Heavy Recon Section is awaiting the delivery of a second Sentinel armed with a lascannon to augment the squadron's task flexibility. The role of the medium recon section is to move ahead of the rest of the regiment, and their combat role is mainly to keep contact with the enemy while targeting light to medium armour and infantry.

So, what's planned for the Volkhov 4th? Next in my mail should be enough plastics and blisters to do a Regimental Command, and 20 service troopers, representing Conscripts. And when that's finished, the real ARTILLERY will be moving in, in the form of two Armageddon pattern Basilisks.

The regiment is based upon the regiment in which I do military service at the moment, the swedish artillery regiment. For those interested I could put up a few pics of the real life equivalents to the Volkhov 4th, especially for Golf/Hotel Delta!

Thanks for reading and looking, please leave some nice comments!

    EDIT:
THE OFFICER IN THIS POST HAVE SINCE BEEN FIRED!

After three flat out weeks of military service I've finally had some time to paint! I'm in the process of finishing the deployed observation teams, and have begun work on a Catachan veteran squad. But first things first, a vital part of the regimental HQ is complete:

    Colonel Epheden Cromwell

Finally something you haven't seen before!

I'll try to finish the observation posts tonight, we'll see

    EDIT:
THE SQUADS IN THIS POST HAVE SINCE BEEN REORGANIZED!

And the rest of the stuff I've been working on today, with some of it so new it's still glossy from the matte varnish:

    Hotel Delta

The second forward observation team, this one is deployed and prepared to direct the fire of a dedicated mortar squad a few hundred metres away from the battle. They still need to get the Vox-antenna up though!

Part of Catachan detachment to Guard/Escort Platoon

The special weapon operators of the Catachans deployed with the Volkhov 4th, attached after a navigation error at the unfortunate Zbrenka Landing. The rest of the squad is currently at the gym.

Hope you like this evenings additions to the Volkhov 4th Artillery? Please comment!

THE SQUADS IN THIS POST HAVE SINCE BEEN REORGANIZED!

Finally back for my last weekend ever in the military! Wooh!

I got another box of Cadians and have now done the platoon and company commands. Oh, and converted ol' colonel Cromwell a bit more, but forgot to take pics! Next time he'll be in, promise.

    Company Command Staff

aaaand, since it's arrival on the company, the Sentinel had a quick painting of camouflage:

It was a bit of a test for the upcoming Chimera and Basilisks, really

    Re: Volkhov 4th Artillery

Ok, so now I've finally got my Armageddon pattern Basilisk from FW! However... it's warped as hell, and I can't get my glue to stick it together firmly. I'm sorely disappointed, as I probably won't be able to construct the interior the way it should be due to extreme shrinkage of the resin hull.

But, well, I'll have to focus on finishing the model anyway. Does anyone have some advice to share on the glue topic? I'm using gw plastic glue, but it simply won't hold it together well enough. I've never worked with resin before, so any and all help is appreciated, as I really don't want to screw this quite expensive piece of artillery

    Re: Volkhov 4th Artillery

I've managed to get it together now, but the next problem has just dawned on me - the blasted paint won't stick! I've tried washing it as FW says in their tutorial, and it doesn't make it much better. Tips? I really suck at resin...

But this hasn't stopped me working on the rest of the regiment! As an artillerist, I know that the artillery itself is always too slow Both the command HQ and the platoon command section are now almost finished, and the Armoured Fist squad is under construction! Pictures will be up as soon as I get my hands on that blasted camera

Did you use hot soapy water? A toothbrush or scrub brush?
    That usually works.

    Re: Volkhov 4th Artillery

SO, I finally found out that it is my black paint that is screwed, it's not a problem with the resin. I'll try to get the damn thing sprayed in a couple of days.

Meanwhile, here's a (kind of bad) WIP shot after adding camo netting and dirt:

Ivan Fedrov looked at the cursed Basilisk. It had been barely a week since they had got the shipment, and all the others were already on their way to the front. Not this one, though. All manner of strange things were surrounding its preparation, even the camoflage paint seemed cursed. Walking around it, he could see the dirt that had gathered after its test run. At least the engine was running, he thought. If the gun worked? For better or worse, some unlucky unit at the Magellan Prime front would find out...

    EDIT:
THE SQUAD BELOW HAVE SINCE BEEN REORGANIZED!

And here's an equally bad pic of the Batallion Command!

Lieutenant Colonel Mironov looked at the holopic. Was this the best that could be achieved in wartime? And then he saw the unforgivable - he'd got the wrong name listed! Cromwell? He knew the old bastard well... And he knew his soldiers did too. This would surely be the stock of many a joke on the regiment. He? The batallion commander? For a lowly Guardsman, this could have passed, but now... And with the horrendous quality of the picture...
Mironov looked up the name of the photographer, and assigned the man to a lifetime of latrine cleaning with a simple flick of his pen. Ah, the joys of petty revenge...

The plan's for it to be a hovering medic robot (I know AI is against the fluff, but imagine a brain encapsuled in there or something) but I don't know if I pulled it off! I'm a tad undecided about it still.
