    Re: Rich's blood bowl teams

Thanks for all the feedback chaps, its been a bit of a hard week this week so it's very much appreciated.

    Azrael - thanks mate.

Malorian - Yep, triple skull city! Thanks man.

Huron - thank you, and yep well spotted, it is from the shokk attack gun.

Well, I managed to get a bit done on the base I was talking about. The idea is just to finish off the team a bit, and even keep the full squad together a bit, and I thought a base would do that. When the lord of the rings bases were released I had all sorts of ambitious plans, but it turned out to be not as easy as I hoped so I had to rein my ambitions in a bit. I might end up trying to do one of these for each team, but I thought I'd put a generic one together first.

So, with my skaven team doing modelling duty:

The sharp eyed may notice my turn marker and re-rolls at the back?

I'm quite pleased with it, and it's magnetized for a bit of stability. The main thing I don't like is that some off the models have lines on the bases that aren't replicated on the base, but seeing as the base is for the full squad I can't see a way around it. I'm not too bothered really, but if anyone has any suggestions I'd be delighted to hear them. Or any opinions on anything else really.

    cheers

great log! just getting into bloodbowl so this is realy inspiring (especial as i think most of the GW bloodbowl team models look stupidly out of date so conversion is the only way to go!) i think your orcs are fantasticaly dynamic and i've very interested in how your dark elves turn out. keep up the great work!

    Re: Rich's blood bowl teams

Sainthale - thanks mate, glad you like the log. I do agree, some of the teams really haven't aged too well. I think the style at the time was a bit more cartoonish, very much in the 'big hands' school of sculpting.

I've still not managed to get any further on the Lizardmen, but I have done a bit on my two elf teams. The next two shots are very much work in progress, but I've done a bit on another High Elf lineman:

    And the thrower:

I'm trying to not rush these guys as I have quite a specific idea in my head for how I want them to look, and I'm worried I'll compromise on that if I try and get them done too quick.

I've also finished painting up my first Dark Elf runner:

Progress on the second one has been stymied a bit by me losing the head I was going to use, so I'm going to have to try and find it or get a replacement from somewhere. Bit of a pain, but I've got plenty else to keep me busy in the meantime.

thanks for looking, let me know what you think!

    Re: Rich's blood bowl teams

Well, I found that head I was looking for, so I've managed to do my second runner. This one came together a lot more easily than I'd hoped for. In some of the other players I've had to cut through thighs, knees and ankles to get the right pose, but with this one a straight cut through the hip worked without anything else needed. So here he is:

And here he is with his mate:

So that brings me up to 11 players done now, which is cool. And in one of the slightly out of focus group shots that are becoming my forte, here they are:

I've just ordered a few bits to make a few more linemen to fill out the squad, but I'm happy I could use the team now, fragile and risky though it might be. Everyone likes a challenge eh?

Fantastic - I'm a huge fan of your Dark Elf No 5, there's something about the pose that shouts "Coming through, so get the hell out of the way, or you're going down..." :P

I'm not a huge fan of the Skaven team - but that's because of the models rather than anything you've done to them - the painting is still great.

Overall though your stuff is a huge improvement on GW's own efforts - do you plan to do a Dwarf team at some point?

    Inspirational stuff...

    Re: Rich's blood bowl teams

Brevik - Thanks very much mate. If only my number five played like he looks! I'm halfway through a game at the moment, as my opponent had to leave at half time, but he's currently sitting in the casualties box alongside another lineman and the corpse of one of my witch elves! He borrowed my Lizardman team, and although I managed a score to lead 1-0, I'll be kicking in the second half and he has 4 saurus and the Kroxigor waiting to give me a pounding. So it'll be an uphill challenge, but thats half the fun of it.

I did actually do a bit of work on a Dwarf team a little while ago, but with metal figures rather than the plastics, as I'm not really a fan of the dwarf plastic kits, and they look quite tricky to pose. The problem is that the metal figures are even harder to convert, and then linemen in particular (which obviously you need the most of) are really difficult. So they've been relegated to the back of the workbench for a bit, but if you or anyone else is particularly interested in them I could wheel them out?

Anyway, this was a selection of my progress so far on them (very very early work in progress shots in the main, so please be kind). I did think of a name for them at least, The Karak Kadrin Slayer Kings:

    Blitzer :

    Runner:

    And lineman front:

    and lineman back:

As you can see, there's plenty of green stuff work still to do, especially on the lineman, and I need to sort out some shoulder pads and helmets to make them more BB and less WFB.

As I say, if there is any particular interest in seeing these develop then let me know and it might give me the incentive to knuckle down on them a bit. If not, I think I'kk try and get my Lizardmen finished in time for the second half of my game. Would love to hear what you think.

    cheers

    Re: Rich's blood bowl teams

    No? Fair enough.

I've pulled my finger out and done a bit more on my Lizardmen this week, so I'm inching my way towards completing the team. I've done one more Saurus:

    and three more skinks:

So I've now got 10 players done:

Getting there. A couple more saurus and a few more skinks, and the team is done.

I've also done a bit on Slibli, who is the Saurus star player. I don't know whether I'll ever use him in a game, but the Chakax figure is so cool I really wanted to use it in some way. So very early stages, and all I've done so far is cleaned and assembled it, but this is where I am with him:

I had thought I could use him as a captain, but he is a fair bit bigger then the other saurus, and I don't think I'll be able to get the shoulder pads on him, so he might be best saved as the star player.

So that's it for the lizards, but I've been fiddling around with something else too. Which, if you'll forgive me for double posting...

    Re: Rich's blood bowl teams

    ...I'll go on to show.

Since the 40K gretchin came out I've been thinking that I could use them for a goblin team. I didn't really want to do a night goblin or common goblin based team, as I thought they didn't quite fit as BB players, but the gretchin seemed to have some potential. I also wanted to do a goblin team as the secret weapons are now on the roster.

I have put a few together, but I've still got a bit of green stuff work to do before they are ready to paint. I have managed to do one figure though, partly as a test for the painting (I've chosen the purple and black of the Lowdown Rats), and partly because I was really happy with the conversion and was excited about painting it.

So this is my take on the fanatic:

I wanted to make it look like he was wearing glasses, and that one of the lenses was cracked, but I'm not sure it came across well. Does anyone have any suggestions?

So thats it for now. Would be happy to hear some suggestions, criticisms or opinions.

    cheers
    rich

    Re: Rich's blood bowl teams

Sorry mate, have been busy and didn't have chance to post here, I've had a look though recently, and if I have one "negative" thought about your dwarves, it's that they still look like a bit Fantasy Battle-ish.

This was my major criticism when this version of the game came out, they'd gone from a pretty stylish cyberpunk/mad max style of player miniature to a fantasy style - I can see why they did it, to tie the teams to the armies, but I thought the quality of the models suffered badly, and didn't feel like "sports players" to me (regardless of how close the game is to actual war...).

Quite a few of them actually look like fantasy battle soldiers just with the weapons and shields removed.

For dwarf players in the current style, I'd always envisioned large shoulder pads (bulky rather than spiky) and flared squat helmets with horns pointing forward (almost old Marauder Chaos Dwarf style), or no horns at all replaced by a metal "crest".

I do like the thrower-type chap, only having one eye would make judging distance tricky...

The lizardmen are nice too, I'm a big fan of the iconography on the shoulder pads.

    Re: Rich's blood bowl teams

Brevik - certainly no need to apologise mate, I really appreciate you dropping by and commenting.

I also appreciate your constructive criticism - I do agree with what your saying about the dwarfs, and I agree with your points. Thats partly why they've gone to the back of my to-do list, as each one will take a load more work to get them where I'd like them to be. As with the Lizards, I'd like to update them similar to the video game (that keeps getting pushed back), so I'd like them to look a bit like this:

So I still need to figure out how to do those big oval pads and sorting out the helmets. Maybe I'll try a bit on the lineman today and see where I can get to.
Yeah, I quite like the idea of the fastest player on the team having only one leg. A small attempt at a joke, but it made me smile.

Thanks as well, I do quite like the lizzies, although I'm a bit worried that because the pads aren't straight, and the emblem isn't painted very straight on, that it all looks a bit wonky.

Plenty of things to keep me busy then, but I'm not sure which to go for. I think as the sun is out I'll sit on my little balcon and wait for inspiration to strike.

Any views or suggestions would be great.

    cheers

    Re: Rich's blood bowl teams

Bob - thanks man, glad you like it even if you don't know the game so much. Sorry for being a bit dense - do you mean each team, or all of the teams together? I only ask as I probably wont get them all in focus together, my camera's not so great at longer range.

Karlon - Thanks very much, that did make me smile.

Cpt. Drill - thanks, cheers for following it. I can't make the GT unfortunately, I really wanted to go but it didn't work out. I'd really love to go next year - I'd probably get smashed every game, but I reckon it'd be a blast. Are you going?
Have just seen your email btw - will reply when I've finished typing this.

This is a bit of a patchy update to be fair. I wanted to do some more dark elf linemen, but I can't find their arms! I needed to do them partly cause the team got smashed up in my last game, and so I need some journeymen. Was a good game, but very frustrating. Nuffle intervened when I was about to win the game, and managed to turn this position (I'm attacking the line to the left of the picture) at the end of my turn 6:

into a TD against me two turns later, leaving me with a beat up team and a 1-2 loss! Grrr.

I've also done a few peripheral bits this week, so I've started work on some score/re-roll/turn markers for my lizards:

And got most of the way through a turn marker for my Orcs:

I'm going to try really hard to finish some stuff off before I start anything new now. I'm only a few figures shy of getting the Lizards and DE finished, and then I think the goblins might get some attention. Can't wait to try out the chainsword!

Sorry for this not being the most exciting update. Let me know if you're disapointed and think I should be ashamed, or indeed if you've got anything positive to pass on!

    Cheers

Your teams are really inspiring, I've even started my own lizardman team after seeing yours! I saw these dwarfs on impact miniatures, and they do look like those from the bb video game; http://www.impactminiatures.com/inde...ile&id=ET_SBET

    Thanks again for the inspiration.
