Re: Captain Brown's 8th Necromunda Imperial Guard Regiment - The 'Spiders' Painting L

Cpt. Brown, I like your take on the Spiders. I have been updating the same Regiment, but I like your take very much, especially the cammo and the forage caps. One really key component I think you should consider is the facial tatoos, which are something I always remembered from when they came out.

As for the wings on the side of the company number, I'd definately add them.

Here's a shot of how I tried to do the tatoos (guy on the right). With your painting chops you could definately take it a step farther.

I've seen these on bootcamp, ODMiller, very nice. Its nice to see two regiments done differently.

Cpt, your painiting of camo is really good! I wish I could do that. And the storm bolter conversions- as well as being a stroke of genius- look great.

Very nice paint job there odmiller. I decided against doing the tattoos...especially since the faces of the Cadian models have so little face showing, perhaps for a figure without a helmet.

Like I say in all my logs, feel free to poach any idea you like.

Just to prove I have not forgotten these guys (I have been working on my Valkyrie in my Elysian log recently), another pair of veterans with their dented armour are almost done.

They are both conversions as the original Veterans set only came with four bodies and one extra Shotgun. I obtained another and here are two straight plastics with the weapon cut to fit and FW heads and a backpack.

    Thanks Dictator,

Another brief update, two more Special Weapons finished. Finished while I was waiting to be able to use a spray paint for my Elysian Project.

Re: Captain Brown's 8th Necromunda Imperial Guard Regiment - The 'Spiders' Painting L

Wow, it has been a while, I guess my Elysians took up more time than I expected.

I see someone hit the log with a 1 on the rating, again probably someone I issued a warning or points to for breaking the rules...then again it might be someone who really, really hates my painting.

Back to business...so the new Guard list has forced me to make some changes...my Veteran Sergeants suddenly cannot carry those wonderful Storm Bolters I converted them to carry.

Now I have seen several folks throw tantrums or yell and scream about the evil people who work in Game Design...but I will instead try to work around this. Maybe I will use them as Stormtroopers as the Storm Bolters are not that different from a Hotshot Lasgun...

Meanwhile, I need some Sergeants ASAP.

I need some more of these guys.

Hats are made from 'White Stuff'.

Fellow with the Bionic Arm and Bolt Pistol will be the Sergeant for my Veterans.

Middle one's Laspistol holster looks a little big...might have used a Marine's by accident...will switch before painting.

It was a little comical...I was rooting through my bits box looking for Las Pistols and the Chain Swords to make the Sergeants....cheering every time I found one.

Re: Captain Brown's 8th Necromunda Imperial Guard Regiment - The 'Spiders' Painting L

Question for you all. I am going to do a Command Chimera or two and I want to put some extra armour on the sides...but I don't want to spend lots of money on some FW ones.

How does this old Rhino side armour look?

I think the armour looks nice, but you need to lose the skirts of the chimera if you can. It looks really....well as wide as its length ^^ Losing the skirts would help the look a lot.

Really nice work there otherwise capt', loving the scheme.

wow sheep, looking great. You should definitely use them as 'hot shot lasguns'.

I like the extra armour on the chimera, looks pretty cool so far.

Oh no, Dictator thinks that I am sheep...is that a good thing or a bad thing? I guess our avatars are just so similar.

Still torn on the side armour...I have thought about cutting the end pieces to mirror the slope of the skirts that alphachicken was talking about. I don't mind the width...it is actually not that noticeable once I add tracks.

Well I got the Veteran Sergeant with the bionic arm done.

Remember those snipers I cut the heads off of a page or two back?

Although I seem to have deleted the photo of the other side...next time I pull it out I will take one from the front. Westwind heads.

Haha, I most definitely meant to write Captain Brown. Never could I confuse you two!!!!

@ CaptainBrown Do you think your army will be ok to be shown at a GW even with those West Wind heads? I hope there is no fuss over the conversions, because they will look great when included in your army. Also, where is the bionic arm from?

Or perhaps your favourite pet has decided that your figure make far better projectiles than the miniature mouse bought for that purpose. When that time comes, you are faced with several choices, retire the army or sell it on ebay and start another, go into a new army, or revive the old and make it seem new.

The time has come for this last option for my Imperial Guard Necromunda Regiment, this is the army I field the most, they are plastic Cadians and fairly rugged and durable (whereas I find my Forgeworld Elysians are fragile and my Steel Legion are more restrictive in their options).

How many of you remember this?

The box art of the first Imperial Guard plastics. No longer available from Games Workshop, but the first affordable troops provided for an army I started to play with the release of White Dwarf 109.

Here is a slightly more complete image of the picture scanned from the magazine.

The images from White Dwarf and any quotes from the background of that magazine or other publication remain the property of Games Workshop, as do any others used in this log.

This got me started and soon I had a painted army of over 100 of these little guys...that was three boxes and quite a few lead Guardsmen thrown in for Special Weapons, Command figures, etc.

That army went to Sweden I think...before ebay actually and another replaced it (several armies actually). When the new Cadians first came out I got the army box and started painting up a new Necromunda Regiment based on the original artwork.

Some of you will remember my old avatar and some photos of bits of the army from Portent.

    More images:
    Command HQ
    Command Section One
    Command Section Two
    Infantry Squad One
    Infantry Squad Two
    Infantry Squad Three
    Infantry Squad Four
    Infantry Squad Five
    Support Squad One
    Ogryn Squad

So this painting log is my repairing/repainting, adding/replacing and general improvement of my army. Some of you will remember my army from old posts, some of you have fought against the army. The paint scheme is based upon the original plastic Imperial Guard from Rogue Trader, the infamous zebra/tiger stripe pattern on Codex Grey. Now I have not followed everything completely the same, the armour has changed and I did not like the look of metallic helmets on the Cadians nor have I gone for the multi-coloured squad markings or helmet markings. But the majority of the armour is the same, it is not the best camouflage pattern, as painting the stripes on accurately would be time consuming to the extreme…and we are talking about painting Imperial Guardsmen…which means painting a lot of them.

As you can see I already had a base of 75+ painted figures, which is a pretty good start, but a little low when you think about Imperial Guard, I was regularly using older metal Cadian figures and tanks to augment my troops.

Image limit reached, more to follow.

    The long painting war continues...

I'd be pleased to be mistaken for Sheep, Brownie.

    Just not A sheep.

Personally, while I think they largely look great, I'm highly critical of you putting the helmets on the snipers, it just doesn't look right and is very counter-sniper, insofar as snipers break up their shape, and nothing's more distinguishable than a pot helmet.

Not even a pair of large, bare breasts, perfectly shaped, will draw eyes on a battlefield quite as fast as a helmet.

I am not worried as I only enter tournaments/game at GW at the request of organizers or GW staff.

Some member humour...although I might swap the heads for some beret ones...I just like the dust mask hiding the face on these ones.

    Did some more Sergeants.

I think I might need to add and eagle on the hat of the one of the right...his hat looks like an upside down feed bag right now.

Smaller pistol belt on the one on the left.
