That's a lovely paint job on the honour guard. I've wondered previously if the winged-face-helm would suit an Imperial Fist paint scheme, but I think it does.

    Thanks guys!

I've done a little work on the Sons of Medusa Deathwatch Captain.

I'm really happy with how the icon turned out, I just need to take some scorpion green to the spikes and make them a bit sharper. I look forward to getting him done sometime next week. The picture is a little rough, but I'm happy with the WIP on it.

The icon looks great really striking.

    Re: Engel's Imperial Fists Blog

I doodled some designs for the Chapter Banner last night.

Something with Dorn, and the Emperor preferably.

I like the idea for number 2 - Dorn, the Emperor and Sanguinius on the teleport pad, ringed by a Halo, would be cool. Terra could be crescent in the background and whatnot.

My only concern is that in the current background, ALL THREE wear gold armour. I would ideally have Dorn in gold, the Emperor in white and Sanguinius in red, like the old, old diorama.

    Thoughts?

Definitely #2. Although I like #1 also. Perhaps I am tired and feeling juvenile but #3 looks homoerotic... Freudian slip on my part probably.

Also, Dorn in yellow, emperor in gold and Sanny in red? The Emperor has never been depicted in white and I know the same could be said for the other two but they're distinct in their legion colours (IMHO).

EDIT: Nice work with the Sons of Medusa insignia!

I apologize for doing this, but I must old-school you.

    Before this image:

The official representations we had were this:

    And this diorama -

The diorama by... I think Mike McVey, was posted as what it really looked like for some time. I like the white. It was all over the place, White Dwarf, Games days, rulebooks. This was what the Emperor vs Horus was supposed to look like until the HH Card game came along.

Hence, my Emperor in white. Also, they'll be really small, so some differentiation is really required.

I also really think more should be played up between the Blood Angels, Imperial Fists and White Scars. They were the ones who were there, for the final battle, for the crux and the fulcrum of the Galaxy's fate. There should be some serious brotherly bonds there.

Thanks! I'm quite pleased with it. I was happy to realise the skull icon was smaller than the IF chapter symbol so I could go this route rather than free-handing it all.

Slightly OT, but the duel diorama is still on display in Lenton, and still looks as stunning as ever even after 20 years or so (think it was 1993 when Mike did it).

Totally forgot about that diorama. I think the last time I saw that I was just starting 40k! Cripes. Consider me schooled

i like the 2nd banner as well it seems the most promising to display how important the fists were to the emperor

Great point, I hadn't thought of it that way. I'd like to see some camaraderie between Dorn and Sanguinius eventually, it makes lots and lots of sense.

Since I'm bereft of painting equipment until I get back to Dallas next weekend, I might well be doing some serious sketching. Plan A is to have my fiancé trace and extrude the layers in Maya and send it off to be 3D printed and then paint it. plan B is to do another decal, but on a much larger size than the Company banner. (Though not quite as big as the one Ancient Galatan is carrying in the Ultramarine illustration!)

Yeah that would be some cool to see and either plan sounds great. Can wait to see it done I was also wondering about sigismund, when did he become the emperors body guard bc showing the Templars becoming the emperors body guards along side dorn would also be a rather interesting banner. Mostly because it would show that all sons of dorn have shown great importance to the emperor...but I'm still new to the background so I might be wrong lmao

Settling in to the new job (which requires lots of playing of video games and playing on the Internet, gasp!) I've finally found some time for actually getting some work done.

Just a quick update, so that you know I'm not dead or anything:

Two more honour guard to go and then it's on to Pugh! And some devastators... and a whirlwind. Then, it's on to Night Lords and Saim-Hann Eldar simultaneously!

Nice new honour guard. I feel the need to mention the 'fencing' honour guard, as I really like his pose a lot!

Also, I wanna see Pugh sooner rather than later!

Sorry to resurrect this thread, which seems to be dormant, but just wanted to say I was inspired by your white veteran helmets to repaint my red ones, and they look a lot better. Much more striking. So wanted to say thanks. Having done that I was inspired to do some more imperial fist modelling so thanks again! Will be interested to see ny other work you've done on your fists recently.

Your most welcome! I'm glad I could convince someone. Do you have any pics?

There's not a lot left to do for me. 5 Devastators, a couple of Honour Guard, Pugh and a Whirlwind. I have sprayed Pugh as the other two HG need some modeling to finish, so once the Eldar Rangers and Shadow Spectres are done, he's next on the list.

    Stay tuned!

    Re: Engel's Imperial Fists Blog

Any progress? I'm sorry I havn't photo'd my new veterans (thanks again for inspiration), wife had me lay a new floor! The impetus I got from re-painting the helmets of the sternguard has had me order some new models so I can build me some vanguard veterans, you've pushed me into getting my eye into modelling again which is awesome. Looking forward to seeing your take on Pugh, the fluff on him from the space marine novel has made him stick in my mind as a cool leader. Back in the day leaders weren't judged on how many avatars they had bested, but small quirks like having their tastebuds removed as penance!
