final squads for astral swords 3rd comp/ cathayan warclad

And now, yet another update for the now nearing completion 3rd company of the astral swords.

First, the bling stage has been completed on the second devastator squad, viewable here. Note the oldschool reinforced greaves on the back mounted launcher guy and the pre-heresy bolter on the sergeant.

Secondly, two new squads join the ranks awaiting the great blackening (ie. Spraypaint)

Squad 5: fairly happy with these guys. Note the two bulpup style bolters on some of the marines at the front, these look great but are a pain to get marines to carry- most of their inner forearm was sacrificed they fitted in :P

Squad 6: YAY! Last squad done for the company! I really love the guy doing some kung-fu knife-fighting stuff. The twin plasma pistols count as a plasma gun and I did a funky bolt-carbine conversion with a meltagun that unfortunately is blocked out of sight by knife-man’s bling :P. Lastly, check out the ooooold plasma pistol on the sergeant 

Now for the Cathayans. These guys are the first models for the warclad regiment which will be armed with a mix of longswords, flails and halberds to allow use of the unit with any of them in games and also to save money for the photoshoots.

Left to right: warclad with flail, warborn with light armor and cathayan longsword, warlcad with halberd

I’m particularly happy with the champion, looks sweet (that beard took forever :P)

And a shot of champion plus the rest of the models for a view of a unit armed entirely with flails. Note that when finished, some of the flails will have wooden sticks on the end instead of threshing hooks:

Very Impressive, I must say. Although my favorite would have to be the devastator squad. Keep it up.

on the subject of the astral claws, I think they might look better if you put those winged thingys (kislev winged lancers? or something) on the top of the back pack as opposed to attached to the back of it.

    Cathayans look great

I like those Cathayans, nice ideas and work.

The SM are also converted well, but I don't like SM who hold their Bolters in one hand much. The idea with the Cyclone Missile launcher (like the auspex-thing) is nice, but the launcher is much too big in my opinion.

these guys all have true grit, which is why they'll often have a bolter/knife combination

I already thought so, but still I don't like it too much from an aestethic point of view. Apart from that, True Grip won't make the SM shoot one-handed out of combat because they woldn't hit a barn at distance when firing one-handed.

    Just a subjective taste-thing.

Love the dynamic SMs, they look great, and the cathayans are brilliant too, my only criticism would be that the huge hats might look better if the were a bit thinner, just GS maybe instead of using the shield as a base.

    Very cool.

hmmm, the hats are like they are as they are essentially rice helmets, not rice hats. They are wooden, ironbound and have ricestalks over the hat- these guys are actual warriors rather than peasants, the best of the lowborn populace of cathay, hence them all being so beefy

Meh, they just seem a bit thick for headware, they look a bit heavy is all.

Nice otherwise though, they still look great.
