Re: Avian's Warriors of Chaos army

In the orc warriors regiment set, there's a skull with an elongated bottom bit, kinda like long teeth or strange tentacly things... I've used one as the head for one of my forsaken (the green head ), and I'm using another one on the end of my sorcerer's sceptre thing... Mine is more horizontal, like he's pointing it at someone (I'll have pictures up tonight!), but it could work on yours as well?

I like the idea of swapping the head of the sceptre. A quick search of my bitz box(es) yielded some good candidates: a little daemonic(?) skull from the warrior command sprue, or alternatively a round mace head from a warrior.

The skull with the little horns?
Is that not a bit small?

Re: Avian's Warriors of Chaos army

    It's not that small.

A little update on the horse, showing some preliminary (i.e. not completed) green stuff work. As you can see, I have extended the armour plating on the neck and done a bit on the throat. I'm letting it harden for now and then I'll finish it. I'm not too happy about doing green stuff work right where people will see it, as my green stuffing skills are no better than okay.

And a very WIP shot of my Exalted Hero on a Steed of Slaanesh.

Now, if anyone goes "That tail doesn't look finished!" or "He'd look a lot better with a head!" I will send some big men to your house to play loud Katie Perry music at you until you are sorry!

Maybe it is the pic, but the steed of slaanesh looks a bit small for that dude... who'd look a lot better with a head! 8-Þ (I have no idea who Katie Perry is )

Re: Avian's Warriors of Chaos army

I finally settled on the marauder champion's runic sword for my sorcerer, which necessitated borrowing a hand from a high elf archer champion to swap it from a right hand grip to a left hand. I quite like how it turned out.

Additionally, I have done more GS work and glued together most of the components. He is still not glued at the waist, for ease of painting and some GS work will be needed underneath the cape where the torso doesn't quite meet the legs. The horse's teeth are still not done.

Trimming the torso made the shoulder pads fit and I added a pair of spikes from the Knight kit to them to make them more "evil" and I also added some chains from the horsemen kit. And I filed off the dragon heads on his cape.

Now, the question of the end of the staff in his right hand. Is it better as a mace?

    Or a little daemonic skull?

    Or a chaos icon?

@ Urgat: Maybe, but there isn't much to do about that, since that is the size of a Steed of Slaanesh and that's also about the smallest rider I can get which could feasibly be a chaos character. At least I didn't use a plastic Chaos Knight.

Re: Avian's Warriors of Chaos army

I rather like the dramatic skull. Elazar was probably right in that the head swap kind of took the sceptre with it and made it look too "good".
With that daemonic blade he doesn't need a mace (and he doesn't really strike me as a mace swinger either). The chaos Icon is a bit huge but the scull is the perfect size for a sceptre but sinister enough for a chaos sorcerer (then it doesn't have to be painted in bone like a real skull but can be more like a sculpted scull from whatever other-wordly material you like).
The steed is also really beginning to come into it's own now. Good work!

I prefer the chaos icon personnaly, but it's all a matter of taste I suppose.

Re: Avian's Warriors of Chaos army

I dislike the use of the mace (you can't have two hand weapons on a steed IIRC), and both the icon and the skull works. I think I prefer the skull.

I like the ogres as well, they remind me quite a bit of my own.

Re: Avian's Warriors of Chaos army

As has been said, he doesn't need the mace head. The sword works nicely for his weapon

I'm undecided about the other options for his sceptre though. When I saw the demonic skull I thought "yeah, that looks awesome, do that". Then I carried on down and saw the other one, and that looks good as well... I think it doesn't really matter, so whichever you prefer, but if I HAD to choose one I think I'd probably go for the chaos icon. Possibly because the skull is very close to his hand, which makes it look a bit odd IMO. The icon is bigger, so takes the centre of it away from his hand and makes it look a bit more like a mages staff... Tricky though

I really like how the Chaos icon looks - I agree with RaZeR, the other two make it look as though he's holding it too close to the business end. (IMO)

Re: Avian's Warriors of Chaos army

The chaos icon looks best. I think you could make the skull work with a good paint job if you painted it with some sort of marble effect or crystal or some such but I think the chaos star works without any extra effort. Of course, if you were feeling bold you could sculpt some flames writhing in and out of the star kind of like you did on your banner. But that's just me trying to up the ante somewhat!
I like the exalted hero on steed of slaanesh. I'm working on one myself at the minute but with the older steed than the emu ones Are they also just the wrong width for all of the legs in warhammer? It looks fairly flush due to the position of the steeds legs on your one but was just curious...

great log avian, been following it with interest since it started. the purple and yellow orc and goblin army you played against has inspired me to paint a whole bunch of orcs and gobs in a similar way. i think the chaos icon looks best on the sorcerer too
