    Daemons Speedpaint(ish) 2000pts and over

EDIT: The first few posts in this log are old from 2008, I have revived the log for 2011! so scroll down for new updates!

Ok so I thought i'd do a little log of this army I am doing. I have stolen some ideas from other WS members as to speed painting up a daemons force. Luckily these guys were genius's and the speed paint methods i'v picked up shoudlent make the army look too rushed.

Here is the initial army list I am going for:

    The Blue Scribes 81
    Energy Syphon, Scrolls of Sorcery

Herald of Tzeentch – Spellbinder the unseen 165
Level 2, Spell Breaker, Master of Sorcery

Herald of Nurgle – Poxius the thrice shamed 240
    Noxious Vapours, Palanquin, Level 1

Herald of Nurgle – Rot Bringer 240
Battle Standard, Staff of Nurgle, Palanquin

    16 Plague Bearers 247
Full Cmd, Standard of Sleeping Decay

    16 Plague Bearers 247
Full Cmd, Standard of Sleeping Decay

    22 Horrors 264

    5 Flamers of Tzeentch 175

    5 Flamers of Tzeentch 175

    5 Flesh Hounds 175

I have already speed painted one unit of the plauge bearers using the method a WS member (Skulliz) invented:

Not great pics (i'm working on that). Whole unit took about 2 hours to do! herald (using him as a pala herald) took about 30 minutes. So whole unit plus character in under 3 hrs! not bad.

    More to come soon.

Looks great, what exactly is this miracle formula? I'm guessing it involves mostly the new Washes Mine sure does!

Well here is the magic recipe:

    1. Basecoat of Chaos Black spray

    2. Paint them all with Gretchin Green Foundation Paint (I used a tankbrush and painted all models in a row)

    3. Drybrush of Rotten Flesh

    4. Paint small details like worms and Nurglings with Tanned flesh

    5. Highlight the Tanned Flesh areas with Dwarf Flesh

    6. Paint, teeth and claws with Bleached Bone

    7. Paint metal with Bolt Gun Metal

    8. Paint any woden areas with Khemri Brown Foundation Paint

    9. Devil Mud wash the entire model

    10. Once the previous wash is dry, give the model a second wash but of Gryphonne Sepia this time

    11. Base the model

    12. Done
All credit goes to Skulliz. I swapped the brown for Calth and you might not be able to get ye hands on tanned flesh since its OOP but a similar paint'll do. You can play about with it too, like the herald's spots was simply a case of dotting a bit of bad moon on. I might do a stage by stage on one of the PB's when i do the next unit if anyone is interested.

Tallarn Flesh could work too I suppose, I'm realizing how nice a color it is since I started using it more.

Yea tallarn is pretty nice, did you use that on that maruader you did? Really looks quite differnt from standard WoC stuff, in a good way!

I didn't use Tallarn Flesh on any of my Chaos stuff yet, but I'm tempted to try for basecoating the leather since it's so much faster than custom mixing colors. Doesn't matter much anyway what you basecoat with if you're doing as many washes as I am to make the leather dark and purplish

Really nice work. I just started my Nurgle Daemon legion again, and having great fun with it. I am using the Heresy Blights as Plaguebearers, as I am really not a fan of the new style Plaguebearers. Keep an eye out for a log soon.

I particularly like your Kev Adams sculpted Plaguebearers. They are awesome.

How are you finding the army, in terms of gaming?

I like them. But how do you avoid giving the wholy model a matt, milky look with the GW washes?

Amazing horrors! Are you going to make them blue/pink combo?

Cheers guys, feels great getting the fantasy bug back

Was actually thinking of painting the old blue horrors in the unit blue but think i'll keep everything pink.

Was wary the old old models would look out of place in the unit with the new ones but spaced out it kinda works.

    Palanquin, Slime Trail

    Herald of Tzeentch 140

    Armour of khorne

    29 Bloodletters 372
    Standard, Champ

    29 Horrors 348

    26 Plague Bearers 361
    Champ, Sleeping Decay Standard

Stock pile of boxes that have been sitting for a year all now empty.

Last of the metals together. So have all the plauges, horrors, 10 flamers and 2 crushers glued.

And now the omg i just spent over £50 on one unit at GW pic:

With the metal plague bearers and some of the metal horrors i dread to think how much this army has cost.

Here is the speedy paint idea i had for the horror skin, pretty blurry photo but its quite late and i'v been watching ufc an drinkin beer woo.
