    Example of painted models.

I realised it would be almost impossible to co-ordinate such a large scale army, especially as the models are painted by every member of the forum.

However it would be cool if the organisers can post a finished models as a guildline for the others. for example a marine and a vehicle.

I hope this may help unify the units a bit more.

Well Essia, we are updating as we go over at the WPSG (5th Company), just follow the links in my signature and you can see what we have cooked up so far. No Marine completely finished (although philbrad says he is close), but loads variations on the paint schemes (for tabards, loincloths and the like) in the more recent posts (as well as lots of vehicle schemes).

Wintermute I think is working on that problem, but everyone's marine will still be very different to each other.

But hell, these are marines, and fluff wise each marine is different to the next...

Nick asked me over MSN to make a step by step guide for all the people who aren't comfortable with their abilities. I call it "Everything you wanted to know about your Marine (But were afraid to ask).

It's an entry level guide designed to help out the most basic of painters to give a good, consistent look. I'm about half way done with typing it, work and illness has been slowing my progress. I've got an excellent method for the blue, what's the general consensus for painting the white? Shadow Grey basecoat?

Bruenor's marine is an excellent example of how to paint the blue and more importantly the white

That's almost exactly the way I was going to paint up the test marine with step by step photos. Thanks, Wintermute.

You can't really see the white well, but it was based of shadow grey and layered on from space wolves grey... I'll post clear pics when (as TWB said ) the bloody English daylight comes out.

EDIT: Well what do you know, my camera managed to take pics in a room

And yes, that's the new tau battlesuit packaging.

I do have a question about colors. Is there a color standard like the "Pantone Matching System" that can be used with GW paints? Most of the paints I use aren't GW so if I'm going to get as close as possible I'll need a color table number of some sort to get an equivalent match for some paints...

Check this page if you're using Vallejo. Other than that, I dont know where to look.

BTW, as I'll be leading the 5th Company's assault squad, I'd like to know how do we paint jump packs (since it obviously isn't included in the standard color scheme). White and blue both seem appropriate, but I guess it should be decided on the top level.

The exact decoration of backpacs has always, for me at least, been as much about squad identification as anything else.

Attached is a version I knocked together, it's the only picture out of a sequence of 10 (which was going to be my guide to how I painted a warseers marine) that I did. It just so happens to be an assault marine.

Basically agree a format for jump packs (and normal packs if you like) with the squad you are in and do that

    Ah. This kind of helps. I was hoping for a Pantone system or something similar since it tends to be a more universal standard for color matching. The only Vallejos I use are their metals... -___-;;

TWBs version, and a couple of variations. Plasma should recognize the chainsword on the third one.

Edit: TWB, I just looked at your assault marine again and realized you painted the straps across his chest silver not black, oops. It's off to the pain glove I go.

    Third one for pope

How much time did you spend 'correcting' the images? I mean, you got rid of the horrible looking jump-pack air intakes and replaced them with nice straight lines.... kudos.

Cleaning up the whole thing and repositioning the arms took about 2 hours. But I couldn't sleep and it helped pass the time.

I like TWB's colour scheme. its gets my seal of approval.

[BTW Oxford, there is nothing wrong with the variations you posted, apart from the colur of the jump-pack harnesses - which you will no doubt correct ]

Fixed. Plasma: make that 2 hours 20 minutes.

Edit: Made the pistols a bit smaller (didn't quite look right) and added a vet sergeant with power fist.

Does it matter greatly if the white on our marine was layered up from shadow blue rather than grey?
