    Predators Own Guard Project

This guard army started with the release of the Codex, the second edition one, in all the years since it has grown to quite a size not the largest but big enough. I wanted to show some photos of the current mix of vehicles and other models that make it up. This first post is just some shots of the tanks I'm using most of them converted but not all.

P.S. I don't much like my painting but with these thats only half the story if only I could paint too I've destroyed so many great models by painting them. Anyway Photos...

Time for a few infantry I think

Got a four of these basic squads to fill the troops choices.

A couple of the more specialist squads firstly my mortar squad.

and Rattlings (I know it's a bad joke)

Those chimeras with the predator turrets are a really cool conversion!

Thanks I did warn you about my painting skills. I've always enjoyed building these things more than the painting.

Anyway a few more photos for you close-ups on one of those converted hellhounds as yet in the bare plastic.

Um... Probably not the best, but then again im a **** painter, so i can't really say.

But good on ya keeping a log, hopefully some of the top painters out here will throw some tips at ya. Good idea would be to look at some logs and see bits of it that you like, and ask, like "How did you do the highlighting on your guardians?"
Then, try and replicate it with your own stylings... given time your painting will improve alot.

    Good luck man.

    Re: Predators Own Guard Project

Somehow I doubt I can improve my painting I've been doing this for a long time but I have a shake in my hands that I can't overcome. I paint them for playing only. I'll make sure to get a lot of shots of stuff before I paint it though. Anyway this one has been posted in another place so I appologise for thsoe that have seen it unpainted elsewhere but here's the end result of about two days work and a overly large pile of spare parts, left over from the hellhound that was shown before.

Those are some really nice conversions, I especially like the predator turrets on the chimera, I was planning on doing something similar and i think I will do now I can see how good it looks! If you weant a few tips for the painting I'd suggest using a basecoat and watering the paint down before you start (Ie dont use it straight from the pot, put it on an old plate and add a bit of water).

    Re: Predators Own Guard Project

very nice mate, love all the tanks and the ratlings are very cool. interesting literal approach!

painting wise the best way to improve on the tanls (if you are finding it hard) is to get a spray gun. they really dont cost much any more and theres loads of tutorials on this site and the web in general. cut out some shapes for camo etc. then fill in the details with decals / transfers and water your paints down. try using less colours on infantry and paint up from dark to light and you should be fine!

making good bases also improves the look of models immensly. glue on some sand. undercoat it and drybrush desired colour. add a touch of static grass and paint the edge of the base.

    sorted.

    good luck!

    Re: Predators Own Guard Project

I have some bases on order atm I was feeling lazy so I ordered some from a site a friend sent me a link for materials. *Rummaging sounds* heres the link .I have done some bases myself but this struck me as far easier. I might dig out my basing materials again for future models.

My mum keeps bugging me to use her air brush at some point might give that a try on one of my current projects. I'll see how that comes out. Thanks for the advice glad you like the models.

Photos of the latest tank as yet unblemished by my painting skills.

Think I'll try and merge the sponson and the side armour together on the next one.

Now THAT'S an interesting take. Verrrrry interesting.

Think I'll take that as a compliment. One of the things I've been trying to do is to use only GW parts as much as I can. The leman russ shown above was built using a lascannon cut from one of those predator turrets I'm always using and the leman and chimera kits. I'm trying to reduce the number of kits I'm using atm but two seems to be the minimum for this chassis. My bits box is now well stocked at least.

    Re: Predators Own Guard Project

I love your conversions. Especially that last Leman Russ there, reminds me of the tank from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

You give yourself a hard time for your painting. While it may not be 'eavy metal standard, it's a lot better than what I've seen. Back when I used to game I had a friend that had a terribly "painted" army. Seemed like he just put all of his models in a bucket, dumped a bunch of paint in there, took the models out and let them dry. Just one suggestion...paint some metallics on those tank tracks, and whatever other metal bits are on them. Unless they aren't finished and I missed that somewhere, it's late and I'm pretty tired. lol

Keep practicing though, you'll get better in time.

    Re: Predators Own Guard Project

Thanks for the support, I've been thinking this very morning that I ought to add metallics to the tracks myself so I'll take that advice. For the moment I'm taking the army out for a days play time. Still not quite got the newest edition of the rules nailed yet so I'm still learning but I'll post an army list here soon.

    Re: Predators Own Guard Project

Another piccie of progress on the tank. I closed up the gap between the side plate and the sponson. I used some of the tips on painting already offered but it is no where near finished, just base coated atm.

P.S. more advice welcome. I've ordered a few gas masked german heads from the SHS and have an idea on making a chem inhaler based force just for the fun of it.

    Re: Predators Own Guard Project

I'm busy painting metallics onto tracks atm, with 16 tanks that could take a while so I'll be adding a few photos of older models. These are what I was usign as rattlings before I made the ones shown above.

Ugly ain't they , anyway heres a shot of the first few of the tanks following me taking TheMartyr451's advice and painting a few metalics I have completed a couple more since but that still leaves way too many.
