Mike D's Chaos Warrior Army

*Starting on post 110, page 6, I am touching up my army and taking better pictures*

I've been looking at the project logs on this website for the past week and I've been inspired to make my own log. I've been working on a Warriors of Chaos army for the past few months and would like to show you guys what I've got.

I don't have too big of a plan for the army, just really painting what I want to paint. For example I converted this demon prince out of a skaven Vermin Lord and now I dont hear too much good stuff about the demon prince for the game. Oh well, I would like to win games though but Im more into it for the art aspect.

So far, painted, I've got the demon prince, 10 chaos warriors, 5 knights, 5 warhounds, a mage and familiar, and a Chaos spawn. I converted the spawn and the mage/familiar as well as the head of the chaos warrior musician.

Unpainted I have 5 warhounds and 2 chaos warriors and a lord on juggernaut coming in the mail. I definitely want a dragon ogre, although I read they arent that great either, I'm going to convert another spawn, and I want to get a empire plastic wizard box set and convert some more wizards out of that, probably putting one on a disc. (I got the idea for the empire plastic from Avian using the High Elf plastic). For the rest of my core I'm debating getting nothing but chaos warriors, and just throwing out marauders all together, or just getting two warrior regiments and a marauder on horse regiment(tactically smarter but I like the idea of all warriors.) I dont like the marauder on foot models, they're too clean looking.

I'll just post my heroes and spawn now and do the troops later so Ill have something to post before my Jugger gets here. My paint scheme is supposed to be as dark and metallic as possible with any colors being very muted. The banners I'm taking all from Gustav Dore paintings. Well I hope you enjoy.

Looking good so far. I really like your spawn and the sculpting on the Prince.

Here are my chaos warriors. I converted the musicians head, out of the original musician head, with green stuff as I didnt want too many mutations in my army. I hope I dont get crap for the naked demon on the banner. Its from a Gustav Dore etching from the 'Divine Comedy'. I think he is standing there while Minos judges the damned I'm not sure if thats the pic though.

I like the converted musician, It makes a lot more sense not to have a full helmet if you are trying to blow into a horn. The paint job is good to, especially the banner.

Thanks! it was a pretty easy conversion too, I think I'm going to add hair and beards too all my musicians in the future

Nice work, though the warriors are a bit monochrome, I think some more colours would be nice. Lovely banner.

@mrtn:Thanks for the banner comment. I mean for them to be monochrome, a lot of my insperado comes from the bad guy army in Willow. Im keeping the color for the heroes I want the army to be really dark.

Here are my chaos knights and warhounds. The only conversions on these guys are the ears on the warhounds which I greenstuffed, I got the idea from Avians army which is really cool. The banner on the knights is from Gustave Dore again, my interpretation of 'death rides a pale horse,' an etching of death as a four horseman from his bible prints.

I'm not sure if I need to brighten up the gold on my knights a little or keep it dark looking. The next update wont be for a while as Im waiting on my Juggernaut in the mail and that will take a while to point too when it gets here. Also if anyone has an idea for converting that juggernaut model I'd like to hear em.

Heres some new stuff: a Juggernaut that's not red! Also a converted unit champion for chaos warriors, which is an idea I stole from someone on this thread somewhere, and a wip conversion for the musician of that unit. Hes going to get hair and a bigger mustache. Sorry about the grainy pics I need to figure out how to use a camera..

There could be a certain limited amount of complete realism in this universe, and you're using up a lot of it!

Ok here is spawn number 2 w.i.p. and my command for warriors number 2, all greenstuffed. I'm going to give the spawn a big crab like claw for his left arm, I don't know about the right, whether to give him two claws or something else. I don't know if I'm all tentacled out from the first spawn or not. Any ideas would be welcome.

I like your chaos spawns, the are supposed to have been ex warriors so having the bits still showing is very in keeping with the fluff. Maybe you could add another chaos warrior to the second spawn, kind of meld them together. Or a chaos steed or some other creature.

Thanks man, Ill try to fit another torso but definitely another head or helmet or something. Its too bad I dont have zombie heads lying around.. actually I have hero quest zombies I think, Ill look at those.

Hey. Just tuned in. I really like the hair and beard on the musician for the warriors. He looks way better than the vanilla version.

Ok here is my finished second spawn, unless there are any ideas from you guys for more stuff that I like. I gave him a zombie head on a tentacle from heroes quest, three claws and a tentacle holding a mace. Next I gotta paint some rank and file and then I'll paint this guy, since I've been spoiling myself working on characters and monsters lately.

Oh I really like this spawn, there seems to still be a struggle between the chaos warrior and the spawn coming through.

Thanks man, I was a little worried he'd look too much like a forsaken but I think he turned out alright. Now a forsaken unit should be a piece of cake.

I finished my spawn since it seemed to incite interest, which i appreciate. I'm not sure why my pics are so grainy but you can get the idea. I was thinking of maybe putting some lacquer finish on the tentacles. Also here is a work in progress of my next chaos sorcerer on a disc. Im going to use an ink tube out of a pen for the clear flying bit and maybe model some flames and gems on the disc. C and C are welcome.

I think the spawn turned out great. The sorcerer looks like it's of to a good start.

Long time but i've got some more work done. I think I even took some decent pics this time. Got a whole painted army pic, my unit of warriors with halbards, a better shot of my demon prince, and a wip of my sorcerer.

I put a bigger base on my d.p. and surprisingly just that makes him look a lot cooler. I'm also adding gems to the hilt of his sword as I think it looked kind of plain. The halbard unit needs a Gustav Dore painting on the banner and the sorcerer needs the flames finished and maybe a book or a gem pendant or something on the disc.
