    "Codex Armageddon-scale" Ghazghkull Thraka

I've never fielded the big bad Warboss, Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka. Partly because I went through a 'No Special Characters, Ever' phase, and also I didn't have any Mega Armored Nobz for him to join up with. Now the unit of MANz is there, so it's time to start on the big guy himself.

Except I really, Really, REALLY don't like the model.

The current figure with it's too-square outline and 'Popeye' arms just doesn't stand out enough for the Prophet of the Waaagh. What I want is something more like the cover art from Codex Armageddon, an impressive model with plenty of implied movement. The Commissar Yarrick model has a right-handed Power Klaw, so according to the art Ghazghkull should also have a right-handed Power Klaw to fit the imagery.

So, I chopped up a Ghazghkull and rearranged the bits...

That's cunning - amazing how a little bit of rearranging can make such a difference, lots of filling to do though

sorely tempted to do something similar

Very cool idea and the results look great so far.

I feel silly to admit this, but until I saw this thread, I did not realize it was Yarrick attacking "The Prophet" on the cover of Codex Armageddon. What? I never looked that close at the cover before!

    Re: "Codex Armageddon-scale" Ghazghkull Thraka

I picked up some thick plastic for spacing out the original metal body into the larger proportions.

The fist picture shows Ghazzie temporarily tacked together with untrimmed plasticard.

One problem is that his PowerKlaw isn't as impressive as the one depicted in the artwork. So a quick look through my bitz box, add some more thick plasticard and we have the second photo...

Then the third shot is a different view with the new PowerKlaw. Yes, that's his legs in the background. I have to dig through my resin ruins to find something suitable for his left foot to stand on, and I'm not sure where I put them when I last re-organized my modelling stuff.

I'm not totally sold on the zoggin 'uge PowerKlaw concept though. I may just make the arm Magnetic and swap between the two when the whim strikes me. Whatever I choose, the right arm will be posed in the "Slam Dunk" position of the artwork.

@Temprus - The Armageddon cover art is centered on Ghazghkull and also depicts Yarrick with his old 'crab-claw with extra fingers' arm like the original model had, instead of the newer model with the boxier PowerKlaw. Plus the fact the Commissar is missing his hat adds to the confusion.

Yeah, my brain always tuned out the power claw before, his colors don't quite look right for a Commissar either.

I like the idea of having swappable arms, if you have the parts/money, maybe make a third one with him holding Yarrick.

Ooooh.... Great Idea! I think I have a Yarrick around somewhere.

Now to get to work on the arms tonight while I've got a little time. But for now enjoy the connected legs (still some GS-ing to do) and some other miniatures for scale comparisons.

This picture has always made me smile because Ghazzkull is SOOOOOOOO HUGH

I remember someone when we first saw the Armageddon codex and this picture stating that this really makes you consider the word Fist as a verb!

I got pulled in to work this weekend, so not as much time to work on Big Ghaz. I did find some chain to wrap around his waist, and I'm going to dig through my Assault on Black Reach bitz to see if I have enouogh suitable skulls to pile on top of his top.

More work on the Codex Armageddon Artwork Ghazghkull.

The pictures show the collection of parts, and then mostly put together. I did some GS work after re-posing the arms, but still more to go. I need to find where that anatomy artist reference got put.

Then me holding on the PowerKlaw, and the REAL PowerKlaw. I'm also still looking for my Yarrick to have held beaten and bleeding in a Klaw.

I'll probably get it all stuck together and start in on the extra detailing, like the "tusks" and adding more hydraulics to make good ol' Ghaz seem even tougher.

I think your claw is a bit to large. A middle point between it and the original would probobly look best. Other than that though, great job on the conversion.

I definitely want to keep the Defiler Klaw for Apocalypse games, but I think you're right.

Here's a mock up of a more loyal to the artwork.

Plus I've found the Yarrick model and an Eldar Warlock to taunt my opponents. Just need to build a Power Klaw crushing them...

like the concept because yer its one hell of a claw on the armogedan cover. but i think maby the defiler claw is maby just to big but not much but maby a slight scale down maby like 1mm all round just to keep in proporsion but apart from that its a really nice model keep it up.

    Re: "Codex Armageddon-scale" Ghazghkull Thraka

Wow... I'm glad someone else did the thread necromancy for me.

At any rate, I'm going to do a 2000 point army for the Seattle Indy GT in January 2010, and I'm just about sold on doing the (almost) all-MegaNob "Deffwing" army. The other option is to convert an Adeptus Mechanicus force, but the trades for conversion bitz is going slowly.

I currently have over 20 Mega Armored Nobz, and am toying with a couple of list ideas, either with Ghaz or just using two Mega Armored Warbosses instead.

Here's the list in broad strokes:

HQ: 2 MA Warbosses, or Ghaz + Mad Dok Grotsnik
TROOP: 2 units of 8 MANz in Battlewagons, 12 'Ard Boyz in a Trukk, maybe some Grots to kick around.
ELITE: More MANz, but I haven't decided if in Trukks, Battlewagons, or Looted Wagons
FAST: Some Skortcha Buggies or maybe Zagstrukk and some Ladz.
HEAVY: Killa Kans with Grotzookas, Looted Wagons, or more Battlewagons.
