Oh man. This log is just so... it's like all the best parts of geekhood, rolled into one, then cranked up to 11. I don't even know where to begin.
Just... so good. So, so good.
Those who know don't care any more, and those who care don't know.
Cheers for the kind words guys
I tried ordering miniatures through a different company and must say I am wholesale unimpressed with them. It took nearly two weeks to deliver an in-stock item first class. So I'll just stick with Maelstrom games. With the cadians finally here today, I prepped the first ten for the commission. The client is going old school with the grey fatigues, so I'll undercoat them and begin painting tonight.
I'll also try finish painting up the prototype Shadow Trooper in between. I just need to find time to buy some red transparency sheets to make the wings.
So Corryn, what's this company to avoid?
Getting sidetracked, a (dozen) projects at a time...
"Mathematics? Logic?
Neither has ANYTHING whatsoever to do with any of this. Mixing Spock, the Borg and something else we arrive at the truth: Logic is futile. You will be administered. "
Well, not that I would slander them, but Rocket Games looked interesting, and I never mind trying out different hobby stores, especially when they have a varied selection of hobby goods. But it just irked me to have such a needlessly long delay when the order was for a commission job.
Maelstrom Games is my usual source though, good guys over there.
On a side note, I made some good progress on the Shadow Team prototype, and settled on plasticard for the wing membranes (retracted of course). I should be able to show the finished product soon.
This is getting better and better.![]()
I couldn't resist finishing the Shadow teamster before bed. Annoyingly, photographing him at night doesn't do so well for the colours :P
It occurred to me as I finished this guy that presently I've combined quite a few miniatures into the army so far. I put a few in a lineup for comparison of size and proportions. From left to right... DUST, MERCs, Hasslefree and then GW. As you can see, GW is the most dimensionally challenged :P

Looks great! I like the subtle lighting effect too
Are you in Tokyo? If so, PM me. I'm looking for more gamers!

Thanks, I'm trying little by little to put effort into lighting. Tiberium glows are next :P
I have a long overdue exam to write down in London in two days, so I've had to pause on the commission work... but I was randomly inspired by an idea for a second inquisitorial "counts as" that will look... well... pretty damned awesome. Ever since I made the two Avatars... I've wanted to make a Purifier (the Black Hand variant of the Avatar with a shoulder mounted flamer and a wrist mounted siege beam cannon).... So Kane and his retinue make a handy Counts-As-Corteaz... That leaves two other compelling characters... That new female inquisitor (Killian Qatar I'm thinking...) and the more unusual Inquisitor Karamazov. Can you see where my mind is going with this?
A two legged tower of death that brings down Orbital Strikes (beam cannon), Multi-Melta blasts (Purifying flames).... hmm but it lacks character. The Purifier isn't a hero after all, they were produced in numbers for the Black Hand, at the express command of Confessor Marcion! The man who assassinated Slavik, fractured the Brotherhood, and took personal command of the feared Black Hand. Have him standing before a hulking Purifier warmech, directing it and giving impassioned speeches to Nod troops... and hey presto I have a Counts-as-Karamazov
I did some GSing before bed to get a start on Marcion himself, but the Purifier will have to wait until I finish the commission and buy the bits for a new avatar mech. I'll stick some pics of my Marcion WIP tomorrow.
Just a quick snap of the Marcion figure I was inspired to slap together before I head off to the exam down south. I've magnetized his feet, to put him on a smaller base if I so choose (otherwise he stands before a Purifier giving orders).

Marcion's looking promising so far. Despite the whole scale issue (I prefer that a cohesive army maintains a sense of scale), I have to say that I prefer your newest Black Hand model to the Cadian Black Hand one. The Shadow Team member is probably the best of the bunch so far. It's lithe and seemingly frail, but menacing at the same time.
Nice work so far, and best of luck with your exam.
With regards,
Dan.
Well, with no distractions finally, I finished the first commission squad... I can't wait for the lightbox and lamps to arrive next week.... I had to adjust the image to make it a bit more visible...
The client opted for the grey fatigues, basic troops, and no preference on regimental markings. So I went with my favourite... the Black Hand. The 7th Serbian Regiment.
I also undercoated Marcion while I prep the second squad. I'm going to enjoy painting him and trying to bring it to life![]()
Every time I see this thread I get shocked...man, your job is amazing!

Gotta be asked but; With the new necron flyer will we be seeing any converted Banshees or do you already have a plan for a conversion?

Well I finished the commission squads FINALLY. Despite studies, work and drama at home.
Here's a quick shot of them:
And I finished Brother Marcion, and I'm mostly happy with him, especially compared with how he looks pre-painting :P
And you've got it right ProiteusI saw the rumour pics on Beasts of War and immediately thought of the Nod Banshee. The only problem I can see with the design of the necron flyer is the larger vacant space between the wings I need to fill in, so I'm considering ways around that.
Just a little update on me trying to clear out the spare bits I've got to finish before I start getting distracted by a Banshee conversion, or extra troopers.
So I still have to finish converting and painting the rest of the Shadow Team, the second Forgeworld buggy, and the rest of the new style of Black Hand flametroopers. So I converted up the rest of the flametroopers, in addition to one of the old style Black Hand flamers on the left side of the photo (the first of six for my next commission lot). I just wanted to see if I still remembered more or less how to make one.

The tweaked version of the old school Black Hand. Purely for the commission, with 5 more to follow. I still have four of my own Black Hand (new version) to be painted up for my private army.

Just to prove I'm not completely slacking... Been a rough month at work and prepping for a trip abroad.
Some progress on the commission... The flame troopers. As tedious as I recall to do all the little steps of greenstuffing...
And two of the three new Avatars I'm making. The extra plasticard I needed finally arrived after like a month so I can finally work on the legs, arms and pauldrons. These two will get lascannons to make em more game legal.
And as a bonus birthday gift, I also made him a Nod High Confessor. It looks a bit rough, but should come out beautifully with a lick of paint:
And finally... When I went in to buy some paints and bases at my local GW store in Meadowhall, I was very amused to see one of the employees there had converted up one of those cheesy Jokaero armies led by Inquisitor Corteaz. Using plastic ghouls as a cheap and cool looking alternative, some GSing and some plastic bits glued onto them randomly as glowing tech. So I stole the idea, and put a little more effort into the tech bits...
I still grin when I see him sitting on my shelf. On a side note, anyone wanting Jokaeros but not wanting to pay the £7.70 (I think... can't find em for sale anymore), this conversion equates to £1.55 per Jokaero.... cheaper if you get it from retailers without the RRP. And isn't he just adorable?![]()
Awesome Jokaero!
