GDI, Give me large hulking robots any day.
Changes at work have been hell, so naturally, my little project suffered for it :P But I've made more progress on the commission at least. So the sooner I get that finished and shipped abroad, the sooner I can finish my own flame troopers (the V2 ones, not the V1 ones for the commission), and... the banshee I've started work on. Yep, Necron deathscythe as a base, and it's gonna need some seriously modification to the chassis to get closer to the Nod Banshee look. More pics on that when I figure out whether I'm using masses of epoxy or plasticard.
As for my progress on the commission work, the two Avatars my client requested are largely finished in terms of building (you'll note I added Lascannons to these for him, instead of my other chunky weapons):
Also, as a nice little addition to the base, I sculpted a GDI infantry corpse to lie broken and dead between the feet of one of the avatars:
...I get a kick out of sculpting corpses for my army for some reason :P
More pics to follow if I finish the paintjobs before going abroad again. Failing that... when I return.
Just an update, despite interruptions. The first of the two commission Avatars is fully completed. Turns out I could do it a second time :P
And the full squad of old style flame troopers:
And a snapshot of the High Confessor Jordanavič leading his Black Hand elite

Awesome work as always. Any Vypers planned btw?

An update while I wait on some glaze to dry on the second commission Avatar, here's a painted pic of his base (with the sculpted GDI infantryman casualty):
Since you ask Proiteus, I had vaguely considered making one of those... then I realised I was thinking of the Nod Venom. Since I mistakenly thought of that first as a Vyper, is that the one you meant?
I am still working on the Nod Banshee though. But here's the basic way I've assembled the necron aircraft to form the frame work. I found that if you trim and glue the cockpit frame further forward, and cut the tips of the wings, it gives you a decent chassis to work with. I'm still working out how I wanna build up the rest of the body...

Brilliant stuff. Really liking the squad of Black Hand troopers and the Avatars.
I cannot think of ways to build up the Banshee, but I had an idea for a Venom. The StormBudgie (can't remember the name of the Marine flier, not the BA one) has a similar profile (VTOL, cockpit with underslung weapon etc). It might be as simple as playing around with bending plasticard around a roughly spherical core.
It's all looking good dude! Spread the gospel of the great green crystal!
With regards,
Dan.
I had a similar thought. Something along these lines...
To bring it more or less in line with:
Now what that elongated neck is made out of... :P More plasticard around a curved core I guess?
The final piece of the commission job, and the fourth Avatar
And a quick snap of the group as a whole:

Oh, Dan, your package is on it's way... you need to empty some private message space there pal![]()
Just to prove I didn't slack on the Banshee... (like I'm slacking on the second Buggy, V2 Flame Squad and Shadow Team :P)... I felt inspired after the finishing that second batch of commission models and made some inroads with the Banshee chassis:
It's crude, and that cockpit window isn't glued on yet (so it looks a bit skew since I just placed it on the hull to show my intention)... because I need that hole in the hull to get my finger in for the greenstuffing. But you can see it's starting to resemble the Tiberian Sun original slowlyI'm going to keep little aspects, like the vent grills on the front, since they look good. And that robotic spine too I think.
Ah and yes, that's the new Dark Vengeance box underneath it.. I couldn't resist. I LOVE the new chaos units in there. Gorgeous. The Dark Angels I could do without though.
Just some general WIP progress.
I'm juggling between three at the same time now :P Firstly a new commission... a diorama type scene with an Avatar (yes, another one) fighting a GDI Zone Trooper.
Then the Black Hand V2 squad, I'm making progress on their paintjob (whole lotta black there still), started with fatigues and base.
And then some more additions to the Banshee. It looks a bit crude with all the Greenstuff patching, but the painjob should give it that final touch...

look great ! can't wait to see this diarama![]()
An update, I've been trying to upload between work issues.
So the banshee is clumsily continuing to become more and more... greenstuffed :P
And the Avatar/Zone Trooper diorama pieces have been further built up. The Zone trooper is more or less complete, he just needs pinning to the base, which is the bulk of the work. The Avatar's gun, leg and hand placements will depend upon the base specifically, so they're holding until I build that up:
A model I've long wanted to convert into a Nod Reckoner (a great Chimera standin for troop transport), is the GTK Boxer. The bonus is that spare bits from the kit, like guns, hatches, etc are useful for the diorama base, to look like the scrap of war. So I had to assemble the base Reckoner model, to be later modified with plasticard to resemble a more... gritty/realistic version of the cartoony ingame model (with it's monster truck tyres):
Another source of scrap for the diorama, and there's not much to see yet, the tank tracks for a possible Nod Tick Tank. The Tick Tank has double tracks so I've had to double the spacing on the tracks. Finding some extra tracks has been a bugger... but as I type this I think I scored some moreNot much to see in the photo so far, and the Tick is pretty unspectacular with it's boxy shape, but it's still a good Nod classic.
And finally, the full squad of version 2 Nod Black Hand Flame Troopers:
I'm really happy with the basic lighting effects on them and the general brightness of the colours.
Your Banshee looks very very cool. I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out when you've completed it! If you think about it, this allows the army to take Necron's as an ally with a good fluff background reason why - They found the Tacitus in the crashed vehicle, and used the technology inside to make Night Scythes, Doom Scythes, Necron warriors etc for their army. Could also explain the Obelisk of Light. I know that it's the Scrin that the Tacitus came from, but they are sort of a mix between Necron's and Tyranids. Would prefer the Necron side myself.
I am also working on a Nod army, but one based between Tiberian Sun and Tiberian Wars. Modern day scale vehicles to keep it cheap, with a few other additions here and there. I am also drawing a lot of inspiration from a mod for the Tiberian Sun game called Twisted Insurrection. It's based on what would happen if Nod had of actually won in Tiberian Sun. Very interesting and I like their vehicles.
Might like to check out these as alternatives to GW's Venator's - Antenocitis Workshop Warthog. A good price and close to Nod vehicles to look the part. Correct dimensions too.
You might like to check out some of the Mantic Games Corporation miniatures. I am using them for my guys, and as soon as I can get some old style helmets made up, I think they will suit nicely. Will also try to scam some of the guns for Defiance Games German miniatures because they suit the Nod look.
Keep it up mate, they look superb and you've done an excellent job!

Hi, this project actually made me register here. I'm actually working on a similar project over at Dakkadakka, and I hope you don't mind if I totally rip off some of your designs, because this is actually really inspiring. I was struggling with my Marked of Kane army and how to make the cyborgs, but this has given me just what I needed. I'm using them as GK, Awakened are Terminators, Enlightened are paladins, and the Tiberium Troopers are Purifiers. I hope that helps with your project, thank you so much for the inspiration.
Cheers for the feedback guys. Between long work hours, illness and travel (I'm in Scotland writing this on my iPad in a hotel room) I've been slack on updating the progress. The diorama is priority number one, as soon as I'm back home I'll photograph the progress there. Progress was delayed by me hunting down some decent gravel for the base, but I've finally found some today. The avatar is physically complete with its undercoat and some paint on the metal components. The zone trooper is complete and painted barring some decals and some light shading from the laser blast he'll be dodging. The base was the main thing holding me back really. When that is finished I'll be back to finishing off the banshee... I already started painting it but it's gonna take some magic to make the shoddy GS work look believable.
Fenriswulf: it's funny that you mention necron allies, when I started the project I thought of justifying the force with the notion that after Kane went through the scrin portal with his elite troops and inner circle, he was taken to an alternate universe, I.e. 40k. Especially since it was never fully established what happened to him and any "ascended" brothers who entered the portal in the Command and Conquer universe. That warthog alternative you linked would be great for some GDI vehicles I'm thinking (after holding my first forge world nod buggy in hand... I'm addicted to the expensive buggers I'm afraid) do you have any gallery or pics of your army so far? I think myself and the other Nod conversion enthusiasts would be keen to see more
Yeri: Aaaah, I think I might have seen your work on Dakka Dakka... You're using Wargames Factory Shock Troops for your nod infantry right? And feel free to chuck a few links to any of your work in hereI also browse around for inspiration so I am always keen to see how other people convert to achieve results. How will you make the purifiers? And what HQ are you using?
Yep, originally they were supposed to be RA soviet conscripts, but I quickly sidetracked to nod territory. Anyways that project is on hiatus while I work on my pirate necrons. Also my list is dragowing so drago is my HQ plus a librarian. The purifiers I haven't quite figured out yet, but it may be as simple as a chemical tank on their back and a head swap. We'll see once I get back to it.
Some quick WIP shots as promised before I hit the sack. The Avatar is seen here in the half completed base climbing over some military wreckage:
And a shot of the mostly painted Zone trooper. I beefed up the railgun a bit (compared to my original Zone trooper) and the size too, I left a cultist next to him to compare. The armour colouring is more drab and militaristic like the ingame models (rather than that pale shade of green I used before):

Hey I just had an idea you may find interesting: have you considered using the crawlers from Tiberium Twilight as Fortresses of Redemption? I've restarted my Nod army and I'm making a force for each of the three classes. each with a fortress of redemption as their crawler.
http://www.warseer.com/forums/showth...s-Samurai-Orks
my current blog, take a look.
Interesting idea Yeri... Mind you, you could feasibly use many of the base structures for that surely? I'll admit I'm clueless on the Fortress of Redemption rules, what's the gist of it's battlefield role?
Aaaand I finally finished the diorama. Just gonna reconfirm the client's address and then try package this to get travel abroad in one piece...
Enough talk, photo time!
That's the gist of it.
A top down view.
A closer view on the Avatar climbing over the battlefield debris.
A closer view on the GDI Zone Trooper narrowly avoiding a laser blast.
A closer view on the gratuitous tiberium growth. Now with a little bit of glow effect![]()
