On 30. May 2008 I started with a little project I nicknamed "ZEUS", as it was to be last of my Dei Greci (Greek Gods).
Well, today I finally finished my ZEUS in the WIP section and started to share my PIP here

    Let's start with a quick walk-around:

ZEUS super heavy tank for the Imperial Guard

...Even though I find it a bit unfair to throw the argument of "reality" into the ring, in an universe where not one tank has even remotely spotted the slightest glimpse of the outer spheres of reality...

    Re: ZEUS Battlefortress (WH40K IG)

It has a Volcano Cannon of the Shadowsord as main armament, in addition it has a Vulcan Mega Bolter as secondary armament. In the hull it carries a Demolisher gun, and in sports two Vanquisher turrets as anti-armor defense. In two sidesponsons are twin-bolters, towered with a heavy flamer in a seperate turret. For anti-aircraft defense it has two special AA-turrets, as well as 4 twin heavy-stubbers pintle-mounted. For rear defense it has two small sponsons armed with a heavy stubber and a flamer, coupled with a spotlight and a close-defense greande luncher system - the Nahverteidigungswaffe.
Hmm, did I miss anything? Oh, yes, 4 lasguns mounted in firing ports, like on the Chimera.
You can find a complete blog of it's Work in Progress here: http://fischers-design-shop.blogspot...r-heavy-1.html

OK, so now that we safely arrived in the paint booth, I started off with a black base coat

And while the paint dried, I started with the shiled I will mount on the rear ramp:

Its an image of the Dencarian hero Colonel Estara who died during the defense of Xanthium. Over the years he became something like a saint on Dencara 5.

So his image will cover the rear ramp of the ZEUS and protect it of all evil

    Very awesome!

Amazing scratchbuilding skills, you should build a LOT more of those things!

Awesome tank, but I love the freehand flying guardsman. Bravo.

    The tank looks fantastic!

I think on the painted freehand work that the background sun rays need to be blended together a bit more as the banding looks quite obvious. Also, I think you need to do a bit more on the skull. Try and get some reference for it, pick out the teeth a bit more and add a bit more depth as it looks a little flat. Please don't misunderstand, I think it is a nice picture! I just think a little extra work would make it special

I can safely say, my face nearly fell off in amazement.

Definately one of the best tanks I've seen. Excellent scratch-building and excellent freehand.

    Re: ZEUS Battlefortress (WH40K IG)

    Thanks guys
Demonrich, I agree, and it looks like I have to spend some more work here, but...

    Now I have a problem....

Originally I planned to use the same paint scheme I used on the Boreas

    and the Thantalos

But after I did the black base coat I remembered how I liked the look of black and brass on the interior

    So I tried this

a brass trimming and then lots of skulls

    Re: ZEUS Battlefortress (WH40K IG)

The skulls aren't really detailed or realistic, just "paint for effect"

    So, what do you think?
And what about the rivets? On this first try I left them black....
Thanks for your C&C and suggestions

    Re: ZEUS Battlefortress (WH40K IG)

Well, I tried to start with the alternative, the Dencara paint scheme as here:

    on the other AA-turret:

but I have to admit, it doen't look half as good as this one

    So what's your opinion?

    Re: ZEUS Battlefortress (WH40K IG)

    Definitely the black with brass.
Though I think you should only use the skulls on some of the tank - it'll be much more effective that way. If they're all over it, it'll look too 'busy'.

    Re: ZEUS Battlefortress (WH40K IG)

Very nice build there. I have to say that the black and bras scheme looks 100 times better so go with it. The freehand is superb

For riverts, maybe only a highlight on them with boltgun or chainmail to make them stand out but no look to overwhelming if you get what I`m thinking.

now get to painting you quite a bit to do cheers and best of luck to ya

    Great!
Nice to see a uniform vote - so I'll get started with black and brass and workout the details as they come....eventhough I'm wondering if there's anything special about weathering and battle damaging a black tank.....

    Re: ZEUS Battlefortress (WH40K IG)

I contunied with the second AA-turret.
First I dry-brushed it with Boltgun, so the black isn't as complete anymore and it will make it easier for fading and weathering.
Then I continued with the brass riming, the skulls and some detailing.

Especially in comparison to the first AA-turret that is quite an improvement (I think)

Also I added brass for the radar-skull

Did the two lenses in blue and red

I think this will be pretty nice in the end. But so far I haven't done any wear and tear or weathering, as I want to complete the entrie vehilce first, see how the paintjob turn out, and then do the weathering and battle damage.
    C&C welcome
